Fear and Loathing at the Trofi in Hilton – When I went onto the Hilton website, Trofi was listed as a breakfast, lunch, and dinner restaurant. However, when I went to the restaurant the restaurant was closed. Supposedly, they're only open for breakfast. Seeing how I was staying in the hotel, I would come down for breakfast. I looked at the entrance to the restaurant and there was a Wine Spectator award for their wine list. Great, right? The next morning I arrived for breakfast, eager to have a glass of wine. I showed up and waited 15 minutes for my table. The place wasn't even that busy. The hostess gave me a smug look when asked if it was ok if I take an empty seat. She finally sat me and I enjoyed the buffet. I asked to see a wine menu, and the server said they do not serve wine. I found this strange considering they have the Wine Spectator award at the entrance to the restaurant. The server said they didn't know there was a sign. After eating my meal and going back to my room I felt slightly ill. I'll just put this frank, the flight home was not enjoyable for myself or anyone seated towards the back of the plane. Next time in town, I'm staying/eating elsewhere.
Good lunch spot – I ate here for lunch last week. Very impressed. The food is fresh and original, and the service was wonderful. I had thier version of a Turkey club. I was amazed! Really hip and clean place, good layout, and large menu. Yummy!
disappointing night out – We were very disappointed with Trofi. We were the only ones in the restaurant yet our server still didn't seem to have time for us. He brought the wrong menu item but didn't check on us for 15 minutes so we weren't able to get it fixed. Also, as he was refilling our drinks (after we had to flag him down to do so), he noticed a co-worker come in. He stopped with the cup 1/2 full, and ran over to greet them, spilling water on our table but never looking back. He never said a word about it. We felt very unimportant. The menu had tempting choices and the food was good. However, we won't be back.
Hilton Hotel restaurant serving casual but contemporary culinary classics. – The Scene
This space on the ground floor of the downtown Hilton just screams "coffee shop," but is aiming to be something more. Now under the management team behind the hotel's very successful Spencer's Steaks & Chops), Trofi has an updated interior design--earthy tones of red and Southwestern flair--and a fresh approach to hotel dining. It does a good job of making you forget you're in a hotel restaurant, at least until someone comes through dragging luggage.
The menu is eclectic, and its selections reasonably priced. The calamari fritti appetizer is four huge pieces of squid, heavily battered but tasty. The tomato basil bisque, on the other hand, can be somewhat bland. And the always-dependable club sandwich is surprisingly not reliable here: The bread can be stale and covered with too much mayonnaise.
watch out Bambara! – Trofi is a restaurant that is very similar to Bambara in its menu selections. It is an up and coming new star that has not been discovered by the masses. Our dinner was excellent...from the apps to the salad and soup, through the entrees, and dessert! Wonderful flavors, quality ingredients, thoughtful and creative menu, and a great wine list make this a hit! One small problem...the service seems a little slow and rusty. Improvement here would make this one of the best restaurants in Utah! Take your kids only if they are well behaved, ok?
something surprising – Trofi has a wonderful Sunday brunch. It isn't ordinary, in fact it is quite unique. Different selections every week make this a fun place to dine in the AM. Excellent food, no crowds, quiet atmosphere, and a good time...very relaxing. This place is undiscovered, but I hope people find it...it deserves some attention!
