worst Bikram experience in years of practicing – I have taken Bikram classes at a lot of different studios (NYC and elsewhere) and worked with more teachers than you could shake a stick at. Today I signed up for a week at the Chelsea studio and I had the worst Bikram experience of my practice so far. First of all, it's not a pretty studio. The locker room is a disaster (there was plumbing tools all over the bathroom when I came in, I couldn't even use it since the doors were blocked), the staff is neither friendly nor welcoming, and the studio itself is by far the smelliest I have been to. I would be able to see beyond all those things if the class was amazing. Unfortunately the teacher was the most horrifying part of the experience. Utterly uninspiring and obnoxious, only empty words at a speaking tempo that was impossible to follow. I never felt this before, but I was actually insulted by his lack of real enthusiasm for the practice. Terribly insecure that his motormouth words weren't enough, he needed to gesture so strongly that it was completely distracting from ones focus. Zero personality, just tons of attitude. And, as if that wasn't enough, the studio was cold throughout the second half of class. I didn't trust this guy at all and was literally scared to hurt my body. HORRIBLE 90 minutes! If you are looking for a studio with EXCELLENT staff, a fun community vibe and personality, go to the Lower East Side studio. I might give the Soho and Greenwich locations a shot, but I am not going back to Chelsea. Doesn't even deserve 1 star.

Clean the nasty carpet and we'll try agai – The Good: the studio is near my house. The bad: This studio smells SO bad. I cam to a 600pm class, apparently after a 400 pm class. There were huge wet spots of sweat on the floor and the worst smell in the room. Also, there was no cut off limit for the class size. They just kept packing us in there, and then telling us to look at our reflection in the mirror. Um, how? Will not be back.

Great Studio, Terrific Instructors – Outstanding studio with the perfect accomodation for a Bikram class (i.e., excellent studio size with an efficient heating system for a 90-minute class). What's more, classes are of an ideal size, ensuring that each student (even a beginner like me) gets the appropriate amount of instruction. More importantly, the instructors (Raphael, Patrick, Pam, Ben) are top-notch and patient. Would recommend this place for anyone curious about Bikram yoga (or yoga generally) w/out any reservations

smells worse than any men's locker room – I went to this class based on the reviews given here. The only thing I can think of is that they must be written by staff. I woke VERY early to attend the 6:30 am class. When I arrived the first thing I noticed was a putrid stale mildewy smell that made me want to turn around and leave. Then I'm told that there is no instructor for the class and no one knows if or when he or she will show up. so I waited around in the stinch for a while and finally put my shoes back on to leave and the receptionist asks if I'll be coming to another class. When I tell him no, that this is a very bad first impression, he had the NERVE to tell me yoga is about forgiveness!! he tried the flip it like I was this uncompassionate person because of their unprofessionalism! again the NERVE!! I never take the time to write complaints but since I went to this place based solely on the glowing reviews from here I would feel remiss to not share my horrible experience. did I mention it stinks?

THE BEST BIKRAM YOGA STUDIO IN NYC – I love Bikram yoga, you just cannot beat it. The best studio in the City is by far the Chelsea studio, the staff are great, the instructors are amazing and the heat is just perfect. Great humidity and heat, you come ready to take on the world.

A great place to go! – Very friendly and supportive staff make it easy for beginners. Once I started I was encouraged to come back, and I wanted to. Even advanced students are friendly and encouraging. I always feel great after a yoga class!!

great instructors, good class size – Good variety of instructors to give you exposure to diff't styles, but also a consistent schedule to let you go to particular instructors that you like most. Class sizes are very good - large enough to still have good energy and a positive vibe, but small enough so that everyone has plenty of space and you dont' get "grossed out" by the sweating person next to you. Only downside is the carpet (vs hardwood) floors which can make the room carry a mildew smell on some days

Like a gymnasium from yesteryear, this Hatha studio does without the frills ... then turns up the heat. – The Scene
Putty white prevails on the walls of the narrow hallway; also in the small changing room and on the ceiling of the large studio with its two adjacent mirrored walls. But you won't find the flushed-faced students advocating for spiffier decor. Since the studio's founding in April 2001, Bikram Yoga Chelsea's simplicity has reinforced the focus. No one dreamily stares out the grand warehouse windows; the F.I.T. students, hard-core physical culturists and more casual practitioners (of all different body types) are inwardly focused on attaining the spiritual through the rigorously physical. Or at least a mind-altering stretch.

The Services
Bikram rearranges the order of traditional Hatha yoga postures, then places the sequence in a room heated to 100 degrees--to maximize potential gains. Beginner classes are for everyone. "You can take it for 20 years and you'll never master it," says founder John Golterman. But he's more than happy to provide some gentle guidance.

The nicest vibe! – Bikram Yoga Chelsea has by far the nicest athmosphere of all studios I visited so far. Here you meet all kinds of people: young and old, in shape and "not so", beginners and advanced. The studio is bright & spacious and the teachers are down to earth, very helpful and extremly friendly. You get the feeling that you are part of a huge family that gets together to do something it honestly enjoys!
