Blind Faith is an amazing vegetarian restaurant which just happens to be a member of Chicago's Guaranteed Green Restaurant Coalition. Known for it's unique party and catering trays and absolutely brilliant flavor combinations, Blind Faith is a jewel for the Chicago vegetarian palette. Get there and get there quick for lots of vegetable love!
Evanston favorite serves up vegetarian and vegan fare to a loyal crowd of college students and locals. – In Short
With batik hanging from the wall, the Beatles playing in the background, and bean and rice dishes on the menu, Blind Faith Cafe is a throwback to the decade that gave rise to its namesake '70s supergroup. Seitan (a wheat-based meat substitute) slips into a variety of dishes here, from seitan Marsala with rich Italian wine sauce to Mongolian seitan stir-fry and seitan fajitas. Desserts include winners like vegan chocolate cake, complete with tofu "buttercream" frosting.
Why'd they move out of Chicago? – The only bad thing I have to say about the Blind Faith is that they have no locations close to my house....it is worth the drive to Evanston though! Interesting vegetarian dishesand really yummy desserts!
Vegan, Huzzah! – Blind Faith Cafe is one of my favorite restaurants. If you're trying something new, go for the Mongolian StirFry or the Thai Peanut Noodles. The BBQ seitan is also delicious. I do not recommend the Macrobiotic Plate -- bland, bland, bland.
However, as a vegan, I'm not sure I'd recommend the restaurant to many non-vegetarians. The menu throws "strange" words like tempah or seitan in the descriptions without much of an explaination, so the only thing non-veggies are likely to recognize is the cheese ravioli.
Also, I wouldn't recommend the breakfast menu for vegans. Most of it is egg- and cheese- based, and even with substitutions, you'll only be able to get a small selection.
The atmosphere is very calming and it's easy to carry on a conversation wherever you go. I've found the servers to be very helpful.
So, go for lunch or dinner -- you won't regret it!
Vegie never tasted so good – I can't believe it is not meat - an excellect vegetarian restaurant - do not miss the Aztec Hash or Mongolian Stir Fry
