Just plain BAD! – I cannot believe this place was recommended in any magazine or book! We went for lunch and waited 45 minutes for our entrees! The food was bland and lacked any spice or flavor and the samsoas were terrible. The service was terrible and there was something floating in my water. Will never return to the again and would not recommend it for anyone.

I just went to their new location downtown next to the Hyatt. Being an Indian myself I was craving a good curry whilst I was visiting Chicago. I just cannot understand how they got a Zagat rating! The food was terrible. They got my order wrong 3 times! and weren't too worried about it.

I spoke to the manager but he just seemed to laugh things off and had an air of not caring. If you are craving a curry then this is NOT the place to go to.

Run away!!!!!!!

Terrific Spices – Khyber Pass my favorite Indian restaurant in Chicago, and the only Zagat rated one I am aware of. In my experience, the staff warms up if you visit there often - they are extremely proper and polite people, who are tremendously considerate. I think the maitre d' looks like Sinbad The Sailor?s older brother, don't you? Sinbad is a swarthy and handsome man.

Now, about the food.

If you cannot decide what to order, have the buffet - all of the right paneers are present and accounted for, along with the curry dishes, saucy sauces and great soups. Tandoori chicken with lemon wedges and onions are brought to every table, for whoever orders the buffet (and so are warm papadums). The Saag Paneer is perfect - the right amount of spicy and smooth. The samosas are always great but I favor their vegetable fritters because the crunch is perfect, never soggy or overcooked. Good chutney - you'll like it. Personally, I would walk on broken glass for their Rogaan Josh (lamb curry). If you don't order the buffet, and pick from the menu, you will love yourself for being so clever. Have the fish curry from the menu - it?s a light filet on the mild side, with a hint of sweetness. The assorted breadbasket is nice, too. Plenty to share and that's the point - it's about sharing at Khyber Pass. I never visit in a party of less than three. We linger over Kingfishers, watch the belly dancers (kids love that part) and then make room for the mango ice cream and rice pudding.

Khyber Pass is inexpensive. The decor is better than most. Cliched, a little? You bet. Is there something wrong with that? Smile, eat up, and enjoy yourself once in a while!

Enjoyable experience – We always get the buffet which is an excellent value. They have a very nice mix of meat and vegetarian dishes to choose from. We have been to the restaurant 3-4 times and every time the service has been friendly and prompt. They do not rush you with a check, but rather, encourage you to have more dessert. We always enjoy going for dinner then to a movie across the street.

Bad food..!! Worse Service...!! – If u r up for some real bad food and stuck-up attitude from the head waiter, Khyber Pass is highly recommended. Not only the is food devoid of any taste, it lacks authenticity. The buffet which is set at a high price lacks variety. The person who was taking the orders will made us feel as if was doing us a huge favor by letting us eat there. The menu is overpriced and is not worth a single penny.

Not worth your money – This authentic Indian restaurant was not what I had in mind the day we went. The only thing it has is its buffet but we did not like it at all. I personally think after being to so many Indian restaurants that this one was the worst. Its food was so bland and tasteless to me. The buffet is expensive and not worth the money. I just dont understand how in the world it has a good rating. I would personally rate is 2 out of 10. To add to all of that the person attending to us was so crude and that did not help. They have to build up on their food and customer service. I personally would not recomend this restaurant to anyone unless and until people like bland food.

Enjoy Pathan-style Indian cooking at this tidy suburban storefront. – In Short
Just across from the Classic Cinemas Lake Theatre, this date spot is Oak Park's Indian restaurant of choice. With its red-patterned wallpaper, candles and oriental rugs, the look is a bit more formal than Chicago's Devon Street eateries, but the atmosphere is actually quite casual. Dishes are available a la carte, but the extensive buffet is the best bet, with a spread of naan, samosas, curries made with chicken, lamb or Bengali fish and more.

Oak Park Yummies – The food here is great! The service is a little off sometimes, and the decor leaves much to the imagination, but the food more than makes up for it. They have live sitar music on the weekends which adds a little to the ambiance - it doesn't interfere with your meal. The locals pack this joint every weekend night so get there early. Great food for a great value. Try the sag paneer! They offer a buffet too, but I've never tried it, I prefer to order off the menu.
