Never again! Just because I don't like a burger with a side of mold.
I live in the neighborhood and have been going to Hanson's for years. However, the last few years the food quality had just plummeted. I've had cold soup, burned hamburgers, soggy salads lumpy pasta. The last straw was a few weeks ago when I bit into a burger and found mold spore inside the burger! You could tell that is was made a few days before, then just slapped on the grill. This is completely unacceptable. All I have to say is before you order a meal here, just poke your head in the kitchen and see how disgustingly gross it is.
I have been going to Hanson's since they opened about 9 years ago. Last night my wife and I went there for our Valentines Dinner. As soon as we sat down we presented our coupon for a complimentary bottle of wine and were asked to choose from the special coupon wine selection. The coupon then remained on the table and was still there when the manager brought us some of our order. We finished dinner and then asked for the check and were informed that we would have to pay $27 for our free bottle of wine because supposedly the Manager had decided that Valentines Day was a Holiday. We felt we checked this up front and the entire staff knew that we wanted the complimentary bottle of wine and the entire staff including the manager knew it was Valentine's Day. Our waiter was excellent and made the best of the situation and should not be penalized in any way as clearly the management forgot to tell the staff about the creation of an official holiday called Valentine's Day, a day when everyone works and does not fit the definition of a holiday. Sadly this is a horrible way to treat a customer of almost ten years. Also Sadly, this will be our last visit to Hanson's. I am also planning to tell my family and friends about this and strongly suggest that they stop using Hanson's...This silly, greedy act will end up costing much more than what they paid for the wine. I am also planning on send the two coupons that I have back to the manager. I have two of the free wine coupons by the way. One of them we received in the mail and the other one was given to us on our last visit to Hanson's to make up for some sub-standard food. In summary I cannot recommend Hanson's any longer.
WORST SERVICE in Wash Park – Went here for a birthday and the waiter was TERRIBLE!! He was slow, rude and all around terrible, but he obviously didn't care because he included an 18% tip on our bill. What a joke. Will not return nor would I wish this nightmare on others.
What a rip off – Went thru my Entertainment Guide and Found Hanson's in it and since it had a buy 1 get 1 meal decided to go since we were going to a club nearby. THEY DIDN'T HONOR THE ENTERTAINMENT GUIDE!
Made reservations and got there early and were waiting for 1 more in our group and they tried to seat us at a table. We told them we would sit at the bar and have a drink. Drink prices were moderately ok. Our friend showed up and we went and sat down at our table.
Service wasn't too bad to start, and prices and food options were good. Heard the specials which were Seafood Pasta and Prime Rib and two of us ordered that while another orders a pasta dish. We also ordered a appetizer.
The Prime Rib was ok, a little undercooked. The Seafood Pasta was a joke. You usually find lots of seafood in a dish like this but there were like 3 scallops 2 shrimp and 2 clams....The other pasta dish I heard was ok.
So we finish our meal and i get out the entertainment guide card and hand it to my waiter. He comes back shortly and explains since we had one of the "specials" it qualifies as a discount and our card was no good. NEVER have i been to a restaurant where they tried to pull this scam. So I ask for the Manager. The manager comes and I point out we had 5 glasses of wine, appetizer, and three meals where as I think you should comp us one as we did buy 1 entree and get 1 entree and one wasn't on special. She again related to the entertainment guide and their list of rules in the back.
I believe this is a bait and switch type deal where they lure you in by getting advertising and offering a deal and then pull some far fetched "discount" so you don't get it.
I mean how hard would it for the manager to comp the no special meal? or even the appetizer? With this kind of service I will never go back. I like places that go out of their way to bring you back.
HORRIBLE Service! – I live close and tried to eat there several times although I have finally thrown in the towel! Why? Well, first off the service is absolutely unexceptable on a consistant basis. I was in the service industry for several years and have a very open mind to service, but not getting served as a regular AND when I'm one of the only people in there was the final straw. The other thing that makes it almost unbearable is the music they play. It is just bad, I really couldnt pick a worst channel, CD, or whatever it is they play if I tried. I would never recommend this place, no matter how close you live!
Good food,TERRIBLE service!` – We live close by and loved the thought of a restaurant we could walk to. The first couple times we went in it was pretty busy so we were patient with the service. The more we went we noticed this was a normal occurance. We enjoy the food but find ourselves disliking the service so much we get a terrible taste in our mouth. It has gotten to the point that I know longer leave a good tip because it doesnt seem to matter either way. Why reward with a good tip if Im upset each time I'm there? Good tip or bad tip, the service remains the same. Poor.
Don't bother – There are too many resturants in Denver to eat at this place. Our waitress was rude and had no knowledge of the food on the menue. The food order was wrong and she had to be reminded t fix it. I had to ask for sharp knives to cut the meat. She didn't ask if we wanted desert,or coffee. When I complained to the hostess she said if the manager wasn't too busy she maybe would be able to talk to me. I have had better service at Taco Bell.
Great Date Spot – This is a great date spot because it has a small atmosphere and there are quiet places to sit and stare into your lover's eyes. Great food, drinks and staff. Ther service is great and the cooks are awesome! Your food gets out fast and is always done right!
I just can't enough of this place! – It looks small from the outside but the place is actually huge! I didn't realize until someone pointed out that there is another bar upstairs along with pool tables and jukebox. I had no idea. Hanson's offers the usual burgers, sandwiches and the like. They also have some tasty dinner specials. I had a seafood stuffed trout served with an herb cream sauce. I was in heaven! My dining partner always squirms and cries that she "hates fish". I begged her to try some and she could not believe how great it was. One of pros of Hanson's is that they do have a parking lot. It is small but lots of times you can get lucky. Also, being a little north and out of the congested Sushi Den part of South Pearl Street there is often street parking available. I love the place and can't get enough. Its also a great place to hang out and have some drinks with friends. They have happy hour that seems to go on forever so drinks are pretty cheap. Hanson's has a great feel to it, I am from Chicago and it reminds me a lot of neighborhood bars back home. See you there!
good drinks and food – I like to go to hansens' when i'm in the area - great for a stop from the lightrail. The bartenders are friendly. I've never had a problem with poor service. The patio is awesome and the food is delicious. The only thing I haven't liked is the hummus and one time the french fries were cold. - but I just asked for fresh ones with no problems. Happy hour is good and they have a good selection of late night food. The upstairs has pool tables and a bar and bathrooms - good for a group. The place seems to attract a mid 20's- early 30's group and then an older upper middle class crowd - a little more upscale than your standard neighborhood bar.
