Don't let the unfinished looking building and interior fool you. The small kitchen is putting out consistently delicious Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes like Huachinango al cilantro (recently listed as one of Former Houston Press Food Critic's, Katharine Shilcutt, favorite Houston dishes) and so many others. The margaritas are tasty and well-priced too. Plus, such a great value-play.

We love to eat lunch here... – We like the "build-a-meal". You can ask for charro beans instead of refried. Also, great green sauce!

not bad for a neighborhood eatery – table of 4 on dec 4th, 2010.

the pro's: real good fajita nacho's, snapper veracruz & guac. very good prices.

cons:

waiter's english wasnt his 1st language & his service was a tad slow.

the red & green sauce [served w/tortilla chips] -had a weird taste & chips were stale.

went again december 2011---real good..everything! woohoo!

on the wedsite, i read about & tried their house special~a cocktail called, the 3 witches~merlot, orange vodka~~not sure waiter understood so, what i got tasted like a weak sangria.

we asked for a don julio frozen & on the rocks marg~~this cocktail had both its good & bad side~~for the price, it was a very good pour~~lots of julio~~but, 'almost' too much~~on the edge of not being tasty enuff 2 drink.

unless, i lived in the neighborhood i wouldnt go again.

Bueno stuff – I've eaten their food many times over the past few years but i've only actually been in the restaurant once. For most events that we have at my job my boss orders food from Teotihuacan. We are never disappointed. Everything tastes really great! The corn tortillas are especially impressive being hand made. I can eat them by themselves and I have a hard enough time eating a corn tortilla with something in it (I prefer flour.) The fajitas are always tasty and I love the beans. Now, I love guacamole but I'm not crazy about there's. For my taste there is too much Jalapeno in the mix. I prefer my guacamole to be little to no spicy. But that's me. Lately the rice has been a little bit on the dried out side but still better than the rice I cook at home.

Solid Texmex with a slice of Heights culture – It is a beautiful Sunday afternoon and you must feed your family of 8 with authentic, home-cooked and satiating food. The menu must be diverse to please everyone, toddlers and sophisticated palates of 20 somethings alike. Your budget? $20. You have only one answer: an authentic and consistently satisfying Tex-Mex, erring on the side of Mex, eatery tucked away on airline drive.

Okay, perhaps this is an exaggeration but you get my point. Tex Mex, not a difficult cuisine to master at home, is all about pleasing a diverse group with consistently good, traditional and inexpensive dishes. Teotihuacan shines in each of these areas.

Particulary alluring are the breakfast plates. Choices range from porkchops to chilaquiles and are served with sides of a tamales and unlimited corn tortillas guaranteed to be straight off the comal, all for unerring $7.

Weekday dinner specials are just as inviting, particularly during happy hour when even a premium tequila margarita can be enjoyed for a just few dollars..

While neither the food, prices or ambiance are *particularly* special, somehow they come together to create a restaurant that is quick to become anyone's favorite Tex-Mex joint. Chips fresh, salsas flavorful, servers joyful, servings plentiful, you just kinda have to love this place. You even love it on an early Sunday afternoon when it is wall-to-wall packed with families lapping up Mexican plates like cattle, young wild "calves" running and screaming freely about the patio. The superb food draws in a crowd as diverse and colorful as the culture that inspires the cuisine; neither language nor affluence can divide the crowd that comes together in their love of great Texmex . Hands down Teotihuacan is the best value for money that you'll be able to find in the city.

Love it – Not the best mexican food in Houston. But for some reason it might be my favorite restaurant. Perhaps the service isn't perfect. But it's OK every time. The same for the food. Not the best, but it's pretty good every time. These guys are super consistant. Love this place!

I think Thursday is cheap margarita day. Go then.

Great food and smooth ritas!!! – I just love, love this place. I've become a regular here. And so have my friends and family, that I've taken there with me. I'm from the Heights and this place is by far my favorite for fresh mexican and good ritas!!! Prices are great. And it has a great patio you get a good breez even when it's hot out. But don't tell to many, it's a hidden gem try and keep it that way.

Tasty and reasonably priced with great Mexican seafood dishes. – My boyfriend and I went there today for the first time after receiving the recommendation from a friend. I love shrimp en brochette, and I heard the shrimp caliente was very good there. We were not disappointed. The chips and smoky red salsa were wonderful, but the verde was my favorite. The queso with fajita meat was nice and peppery. I also enjoyed a Senorita Margarita at the recommendation of my waiter, but the shrimp caliente was to die for. Sauteed in garlic, peppers, butter and wine and served with a side of guacamole salad and tortillas, this dish was one of my absolute favorites - it was also reasonably priced. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Wow, possibly a new favorite! – I've been here several times and always appreciate the food at great prices. But this past time, the food was especially awesome. Any fajita entree (there are many to choose from) is a winner. The margaritas are huge and though a second would have made the night zip right along, I safely stopped at one. This is quickly becoming an outer Heights institution, so please don't go here, stay away!

Great Mexican Restaurant – Casual Mexican restaurant great for families. Tastey food and the Perfect Margarita (with a splash of Patron) compliments any dish you choose from their menu. The grill (comal) is the best way to go for 2+. Highly recommend it.

Bustling Heights-adjacent Mexican restaurant for a lively scene and cheap, potent margaritas. – In Short
A large Aztec mural on one wall of this friendly restaurant hints at the authentic Mexican menu that awaits diners. A mix of regulars and groups fueled on margaritas samples a variety of tacos, carnitas, combination plates, enchiladas, burritos and fajitas. Grilled quail, fried avocados stuffed with chicken and cheese and whole fish dinners offer a break from the usual Tex-Mex standards. For a more conversation-friendly space, opt for a picnic table on the outdoor patio.
