North Austin's best Japanese food. Kobe offers both intimate traditional and hibachi style dining, where the chef will wow you with his performance. I got a lovely set of chopsticks on my birthday too!

Steak was a rip-off – Wanted to try "Kobe" raised beef for the first time. The description on the menu just says Filet Mignon $60.

So I expected a small slab of meat, medium rare. What I got was meat cut into small stew meat sized chunks, soaked in some kind of brown broth seasoning. It was soft but couldn't taste the meat at all. My friend had the same, rare, but was exactly the same as mine, and not a drop of red or pink. For $60 I expect to taste more than broth.

If this is how japanese always serve steak, let me know, and maybe I'll take this review down. But the description should say, "Filet mignon, soaked in a brown broth" $60. I don't usually go to chains anyways, this may be my last.

I loved it!!!!!! – I just went to Kobe Steakhouse today for lunch with my coworker and the crunch roll was fantastic. This is my first time eating in this restaurant and I was totally amazed! I liked the sushi, the place and the service. My friend is a regular customer to this restaurant and she said it was really good and even better during the happy hour 3-6pm with half price rolls & sushis. Although I live in south austin, I will definitely go back more often and i'll bring more friends to this restaurant. I wish they'll open a restaurant in the south location. :)

YOU will pay A LOT! – Kevin the chef/manager tends to burn the food...he is so

full of himself that makes no changes or attempts to be nice...once you are in watch you wallet.

Forget Kobe and jump to Benihana~

Thank you for taking the time to share your commments with us. We certainly strive to be the best we can be. We do not have a surcharge for anything (a fee added onto another fee). As most restaurants, you order what you want and pay for it. We try our best to be as friendly and accomodating as possible. Unfortunately, some people may have an ill conceived perception of Keith. Please contact Keith in person so that he can get to know you better and greet you on your next visit.

On special occasions, locals bring an appetite for table-sharing and performing chefs. – The spacious, comfortable room has stainless steel and wood accents that lend sophistication. Teppanyaki cooking is a form of tabletop grilling that allows chefs to showcase knife talents. Kobe's tables feature built-in gas grills and seat eight, so smaller groups sit communally. Chefs entertain with flaming "onion volcanoes"--onion-slice layers doused with oil. Scallops/shrimp combination features succulent shrimp, plus large scallops fried in butter and soy. High-quality filet mignon is rich and smoky.

just my opinion. – First off, Kobe is not that bad of a place, I have always gotten good sushi. Second, the prices might be a little high, but where are they not?? I do enjoy the atmosphere, and the wait staff seems mostly friendly. Would be nice if the chef spoke English though. I have many great experiences at this resteraunt and do plan on returning, but I am turned off by what seems to be a bogus review posted on the same date as the Resteraunts Reply to the bad review : ( If you have never been to Kobe Steakhouse, I say go and see for yourself.

Great Kobe Filet – We went to Kobe for their Kobe beef. I wanted to try the kobe Ribeye but was steered towards the Kobe filet by my waiter. It was a great decisio. I enjoyed it's rich, buttery flavor immensely. The manager came by to check on my experience and was pleasantly greeted. Fine young man. He gave me a complimentary appetizer card for my next visit :) I also had the calamari tempura which was amazingly tender. Service was good but not fantastic but the free appetizer card made up for it. I waited for 30 minutes to be sat, but it was extremely busy that night. You can tell everyone was having a good time. I am an older man so the number of kids I sat with was irritating so I will sit in the bar area next time for more privacy. Good job Kobe!

Worst Hibachi Restaurant in Austin – Kobe is one of the most expensive hibachi restaurants in Austin, but you definitely do not get what you pay for. The cooking is mediocre, the food quality fair, and the show lacking in excitement. Service was very slow bringing food out, but tried more than once to take plates from people in the party who were not finished with their food yet. We ordered a large sushi platter as well & we were all very disappointed with it's quality - the fish did not seem very fresh. I was most upset by how over salt&peppered the rice & meat were, so much so that I was almost unable to eat it.

I am sorry that your experience was not as expected. Are you reviewing the correct Kobe Japanese Steakhouse? There is one in San Marcos that alot of people confuse us with. We do not have a sushi platter per se.

We are not the most expensive teppanyaki restaurant in the area. If you compare prices you will find that we are comparable or even less expensive that others.

Please contact me so that I can show you that we are a cut above the rest.

PROFITEERS??? – We live in the neighborhood and have been frequent patrons of this place for many years, but we are finally fed up! They have a deplorable practice of taking advantage of any ?holiday? to PAD PRICES for lunch patrons.

On MLK?s birthday we wanted to take our 7-year-old and his best friend for a treat since they had a day off from school. When we arrived at lunchtime people were at the door reading a sign that said they were only serving from their overpriced DINNER MENU (over twice as much per entree as their lunch menu)! Apparently aware that families like ours might want to enjoy a special lunch on a day off, they were trying to take advantage of that, thinking that once we got there we?d go ahead and pay the inflated price! We watched as three parties of lunch patrons angrily walked away.

This is not the first time we?ve gone there for lunch only to find this sort of sign posted. Anytime there is a holiday or special occasion they try to take advantage of their customers by jacking up prices.

On this recent occasion I told the hostess that we would not be dining there for this reason, and informed her that no less that twelve other angry patrons had walked away after reading their sign. She shrugged and said that lots of people complained, but she could do nothing. She could not offer any reason as to why MLK's birthday somehow justified this outrageous scheme.

I hope that the few dollars made by this lunchtime PRICE GOUGING are worth alienating regular customers. This is a terrible business practice and is turning customers away in droves,. Don't they realize that they are shooting themselves in the foot by trying to take advantage of people? Is selling less volume at a higher price worth losing loyal patrons??

This is so offensive to our sensibilities that my husband and I are telling everyone we know about their avaricious business practices.

Their food is pretty good, their service is mediocre, but their GREED is OFFENSIVE!

No we are not profiteers. We value our guests very much. We offer a $5.95 lunch special Mon-Fridays with the exception of Holidays. MLK was great man and thus a holiday. We have practiced this for many years and will continue to do so.

I have never received a complaint as such, which sounds rather personal for some reason. Please do not take this personally.

Please reserve those harsh words for someone deserving of them as we are not. Thank you.

Best Japanese food for lunch at the best price! – Our family loves to have lunch at Kobe at least every couple of weeks if not every week.

Their $5.95 lunch is the best...it includes a meat entree, with veggies, rice and soup with

a great salad.

The cooks are great and friendly...the waitstaff is OK and sometimes so so...many times they "forget"

to bring the rice...like the last time that we were there. Our chef's try to be funny and entertaining even

at lunch time. A couple of the best chefs are Sunny and Chepo...

The owner managers are a different story...the female owner is terrific, she will come and greet you with a

smile and a hug if she knows you a little. Her brother (?) Keith does not bother to smile or to make you

feel at ease. When they have a special and they run out of whatever they have for the day, you have to take

whatever HE wants you to have...or you pay full price.

So the best thing the place has is great food....awesome lunch prices and you should bring your own rice

if your waiter is not very attentive. He added 20% to our meal tab...without our authorization...it was very

disappointing...after having bad/no service.

The chefs speak very little English but they make sure that you get your money's worth...they are very

attentive to your needs and we have seen them go out of their way to please even the youngest guests.
