Cozy West Village gem – Salt is kind of hidden on the south side of MacDougal St but it is always busy. I bought a coupon and booked a table for two on a Thursday night. The restaurant is intimate and has a tiny menu but you should not overlook it. They have some absolutely amazing dishes.
I got the daily special, King Salmon pan-seared with two sides, egg plant and artichoke puree. My boyfriend on the other hand, tried their braised Lamb shank with beans.
Wow, my salmon has a crispy skin and yet the meat is so tender and juicy. The egg plant is cooked to tender and puree was simply amazing. They were all served on the same plate but they surprisingly compliment one another's flavor. My boyfriend's lamb just fell apart from the bone and the flavor is exploding. It tastes like lamb stew.
We also got the Lemon Tart with Earl Grey Ice Cream as other Yelpers suggested. It is light, lemony and yet refreshing. I feel satisfied but not overstuffed.
Our waitress was super friendly and attentive. The only thing is this place is not cheap. Our bill came to $52 although I have a $25 off coupon.
SOHO gem with terrific food, service and price – Come here for the food. You won't be disappointed. Mostly organic & always tastey. My all-time favorites here are the appetizers of dates wrapped in bacon drizzled in honey, the green pea risotto, the seasonal soups & cauliflower side. All entrees are wonderful. I can't choose just one as a favorite. I especially LOVE that nearly everything is organic here. Of course, if they could figure out how to get rid of those pesky calories, too, that'd be the only possible improvement to this ever-pleasing kitchen. This place is very small & seating is mainly communal tables except for the 4 two person window tables. Prices are quite reasonable. It can get a little loud but you'll get lost in the food before you can think to complain.
Nice place to try – Came here for dinner and it was very crowded (but I like to think that's a good sign - and it was). My date and I started out with this crispy salmon jerky as an appetizer. Both are meals were wonderful. I ordered the organic chicken breast with cauliflower puree and ate every last bite. Dinner would have been close to $100, but we used a Restaurant . com coupon (and I'm very glad we did). I think the portions were alright, just a little smaller for my taste but the food we ate was yummy.
best soho restaurant. one of the best in new york – If you are looking for the perfect restaurant to have your wedding, shower or any other private party, salt restaurant is the best little place in SoHo.
great little place – great brunch can't wait to go back to try their dinner menu. Very good service. Went there last week with a group and had a fantastic time
Would Definitely Return – Salt was a great choice. The food was excellent as was the ambiance. Service was well above average. However, the main reason I'd go back is the food.
not special – Meh. Not worth the price or the reputation. Eaten here formally 5 times ( five dinners) and none of them were particularly good. Not bad, but I could make the same foods just as well in my tiny studio kitchen and pay half as much for a bottle of wine as I would for a glass here and be more comfortable and happy and have a better time
Very Good! – Delicious food that actually tastes homemade served by friendly people in a very cozy, relaxed environment. Excellent spot for a dinner with a friend or significant other. Highly recommended.
Loved Salt! – I went to Salt on a first date because of a friend's recommendation. What a great call! Intimate setting, GREAT food and excellent service. I'd definitely go back
great food! cozy setting – great food at this cozy restaurant. even though the seating can be a little annoying (somewhat cafeteria style--long tables), the food was delicious, the service wonderful, and overall an unpretentious place with great food. will return!
