Take Out Disaster - Stay Away – It's possible that Mehfil has good food at the restaurant - we never got a chance to find out. We ordered take out at 5:30 on a Sunday night. At 7PM, they still hadn't shown up, which is staggering since Indian food is typically ready quite quickly and we're 6 blocks from the restaurant. When we called repeatedly to ask about the status, there was no apology or even politeness about it - just that there was a lot of traffic, which is hard to believe when you're six blocks away. By the time the food arrived, it was cold, inedible and we threw it away. Terrible service - don't order from there.
Amazing food! – The take-out lunch menu changes daily and is dirt cheap-- about 6 bucks for a generous serving of curry over rice. Unlike a lot of places that just do a couple of things well, you could order off the menu blindfolded (although it may attract stares) because everything on it is great!
This curry in a hurry kicks butt! – I'm spoiled for Indian food nearly every week, because I eat my take-out lunch from Mehfil at least once a week - if not more. I check the daily specials nearly every day (http://mehfilindian.com/LunchMenuTakeOut.htm) to check out what awesome daily specials are available that day. And when I head over, I know that, even if the line is out the door, I know that I'll stillhave my piping hot lunch within 5 minutes. The food is yummy -- whether you go for the warm veggie combos and chicken tikka masala or the fresh chicken tikka salad. And the staff is super friendly to boot!
Consistently delicious – For lunch in particular, this place can't be beat. It's the fastest lunch in town, for one thing, and the rotating menu of curries is delicious every day -- plus, it's under $6 for a big bowl of curry and rice ($7.10 with naan). Little known secret: you can mix two of the curry specials in the same bowl for the same price. Love it!
Delectible and delightful – When I scan the daily menu online before I head over to get take-out for lunch, my mouth inevitably starts watering. I'm actually beginning to learn what sorts of cuisine come from the many different parts of India thanks to their detailed menu that changes daily. I also enjoy the kind people that are always there, and the food never disappoints. Great for the price too.
That's one spicy meatball – Everyday as lunchtime nears, I check Mehfil's daily lunch menu (conveniently online, bookmarked for gastric pleasure). For the last year or two, it was always a question of "chicken or pork" - and having veered off and tried their meatball, the choices have gotten more difficult -- everything is wonderful! The portions are plentiful and the value is great. I'm generally a wuss about spicy foods (they claim it isn't spicy at all - I beg to differ), but the food is so good I keep coming back. I've only had take-out from Mehfil's, but I can't imagine their attentive waitstaff would provide anything but the most fabulous of dining experiences.
Best local lunchtime value for great Indian food – If you're close to 2nd and Folsom on a weekday at lunchtime, this restaurant is the best place nearby for an excellent lunch. Excellent sit-down meals or great, inexpensive takeout offersing that change daily, all of them around $4.50 to $6.50 or so.
Great place for take-out – This restaurant is one of the best palces for take-out lunches in the neighborhood. The menu changes daily, and the Chicken tikka masala (which isn't listed on the take out menu, but is available by request) is as good as it gets. Service is quick and price is reasonable with most dishes $5 or less.
So good and cheap my girlfriend yells at me... – ...if I go for lunch and don't bring her any.
I have gone to Mehfil for take out orders at least 30 times by now. Delicious and filling "curry in a hurry" with outsanding vegetarian options (Specifically the dishes with buttermilk dumplings or the saag paneer). It's easily the best $5 I can spend for lunch.
Curry in a hurry! – Great place to pick up lunch. You can be in and out with your food in under 2 minutes. The specials change daily and I've never had a bad meal there. Great stuff.
