Great Little Spot. My first experience was with some friends on a chill night. We hung out on the outdoor patio where we could overlook a busy 5th Street and had some great conversation. My first impression that it was a chill night type of bar where you could relax and talk with friends. I have since gone back a few times with groups of friends and always have excellent service and enjoy the crowd...they usually have a DJ and they throw parties occasionally. I like Apple Bar because it's not your ordinary, always-the-same-crowd type of place.
will never go there again.
I really enjoyed the Apple Bar in the past along with my big group of friends. But, after I was overcharged a week ago by a substantial amount of money posted to my credit/debit card, I was upset to find out the management was doing little to help the situation. Countless voice-mails, a stop by the bar a few nights and an email...still nothing...was told it was a "glitch". To make matters worse, most people I know that night who used their cards were overcharged and are still having problems getting it resolved with the bar.
NEVER USE YOUR CREDIT CARD HERE....YOU MAY BE OVERCHARGED! PLUS, A WEEK LATER, THE MANAGEMENT WASN'T EVEN ATTEMPTING TO CONTACT ALL THOSE THEY OVERCHARGED. So, if you go here, make sure to keep your receipts and check your statements. I kept mine and will be disputing the charge with my bank.
Overall, it's left a really sour "apple" taste in my mouth. Just downright bad and illegal business!
Sweet Sunday Night. I was in town for a friends birthday, and we decided to go downtown. After going to a couple other bars we stumbled into the apple bar. This place had a very nice vibe with a guitarist playing some well know tunes that we all ended up singing along to. The martini's were excellent and the staff was attractive, friendly, and sociable.
pay cash not credit. came here for the first time, used a credit card to buy a round of drinks, went to pay the tab, was told our credit card was given to someone else. Talk about a bad experience. do they not check names? Anyway, probably going to keep us from going back, which is a shame.
Worse drinks in town .... The Dirty Martini started out with a tiny amount of olive juice and became a martini glass of olive juice with a splash of alcohol after the bartender tried to fix it. The Cosmopolitan could only be called that because of its color and the Gin & Tonic was completely flat. I'll say that their drinks are definitely missing something ... better bartenders (they didn't even look old enough to be serving drinks) and an inventory of better alcohol brands!
Sip refreshing apple martinis in a chichi yet homey lounge with personable staff and unique DJs..
In Short
Relax downstairs or climb past the vibrant local artwork by the staircase to comfortable sofas surrounding a large, red square table. Mostly couples and groups in their early 20s to mid-30s, fill the dark, brick-accented atmosphere. Signature apple martinis come from Vox vodka, DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker and Midori. Apple Bar also offers first-rate bourbon and tequila. Thursdays through Saturdays feature live DJs. Ambient music is simultaneously soothing and stimulating.
Rude/Awful service. I attended Apple Bar for the first time last night (april 2006). The vibe was ncie when I walked in and I even enjoyed the drinks. They were made well... until I came into contact with the worst bar tender in Austin. I was getting shots for 3 friends and when he gave them to me he was very rude and proceeded to tell me I was F-ing stupid for not knowing something about a drink. He was very slow at getting drinks out due to the constant making out with a girl at the bar. Service was awful. I will NEVER return.
Excellent Bar. Attractive & attentive bartenders - Fabulous drinks - Good atmosphere with adequate seating - mostly techno played by DJ - Try the Caramel Apple Martini
You can actually relax. The atmosphere may be the best. I took a date there last Friday and we could actually talk (not yell) and listen to some good music. The mojito is excellent and the staff is friendly. There was a totally hot bartendress...unfortunately my date could not stop staring at the door guy.
Great Drinks Served by Rude Bartenders. The title says it all. I really like the drinks at Apple Bar, but the last time I went, I was astounded by the bartender's cocky and ignorant attitude. I can understand being in a rush, but on that day, there were less than 10 people in the whole bar and he still seemed to have problems getting people drinks. There was another guy working who picked up his slack, but I would still prefer not to return to a place with such rude service.
