Best vegan in town – Though the prices can be a bit high and seats need to be cleaned/replaced, the food here is excellent. The flavor diversity always leaves room for discovery even after repeat visits. My boyfriend is vegetarian, I love steak...and yet we both love this restaurant. I don't miss meat at all. They have great smoothies and tonics as well. Good organic beer too!
Simply Delicious Veggie Fare!! – Treated my sister to this fantastic restaurant in celebration of a job well done for the school semester. Came by recommendation of a vegan friend who, if rumors are true, informed me that this place was owned by the kin of the folks that own Zen Palate. How could you go wrong?
Went there with quite an appetite; started off with the five spice tofu rolls, edamame & steamed spinach dumplings. Scrumptious! Had the pine nut vegetable medley with lettuce wraps for dinner and my sister had sesame protein braised in sweet & sour sauce (as a former poultry eater, I must say this puts chicken in sweet and sour sauce to shame!). Everything was delicious. Atmosphere was pleasantly sedated, all done in wood and beige decor. Service was mild and pleasant. Prices are very reasonable, especially for a slightly trendy cuisine location. Highly noteworthy is that as this place starts jumping (started packing in around 7-sh on a week night) so you can smell the flame broiler grilling away for all the new orders. Will easily satisfy the scent-sations of a meat eater.
Drink the herbal tonics, refreshing and tasty, a great carbonated reprieve from typical sugary soda drinks.
I'll definitely be going back to sample more of their ample tasty fare.
my favorite resturant in NYC – We had just left the Met, and were hungry, and stumbled upon Gobo Upper East Side. We were blown away at how great everything was. Every detail was perfect. Really. I have been back to Gobo many times since then, and everyone i take with me is always floored by the food and service. It is vegetarian, but the most die hard carnivore will love it too.
Avoid This Dump – The food is OK, but just OK. The place has a nice look to it and the restrooms are clean. What is amazing is how utterly rude and obnoxious the waitstaff can be. Try to order!! Try to pay!!! You can?t. When you politely ask ?can I give you my order now? you get nothing but attitude. So now we go to Red Bamboo across the street for vegetarian.
love it, love it, LOVE IT! – The food here is amazing, as is the wine. I am a vegan and find that the retaurants in the city that have good vegan food either have too much a of a hippy-dippy atmosphere or are too posh and expensive - Gobo is neither. Everything we had was delectable. I will be returning here as many times as possible!
I'm not used to all those choices! – Went to Gobo for lunch yesterday- been meaning to go for years and am kicking myself for not going sooner. Had the braised tofu in black bean sauce which was good, but I actually preferred the new england rolls I had as an appetizer. The best part was the wide range of choices, mostly asian influenced but not entirely, and not soy pretending to be meat but soy standing out on its own in all it's wonderful permutations! yay!
great food, ambience, and service – Beautiful, calming interior. Delicious, healthy food. Friendly and competent servers. I have a friend from out of town who insists on going there every time she visits. I am more than happy to comply. Although I generally love the food, I will say that a couple of times I've gotten a dish that I thought was too salty.
On and Off – Gobo is a great vegetarian restaurant that also offers a gluten free menu. Their smoothies are amazing with the option of adding flax seed or ginseng, but can range up to $10. Although very accomodating, they have made many mistakes with serving gluten free dishes incorrectly. I keep ordering and going there though because they do truly make an effort and the food is phenomenal.
Delicious Food – Reasonable priced, tasty, vegan food. Very few bad dishes and the room is quite peaceful. Definitely worth a visit.
A Vegetarian Paradise – The dishes in this quaint vegetarain restaurant will make you think twice about vegetarian food. The dishes are delicious and full flavored that you wouldn't image that all the dishes are meatless! The drinks here are pretty good and the price is reasonable. I was quite surprised at the numerous ways seitan and tempeh could be used! Definitely try this place out! I'm so glad that they opened one in the upper east side!
