A good neighborhood french bistro and if possible, sit outside. Food is good but be sure to get fries.

Terrible Dining Experience, The Service Ruins Your Meal – I work near this restaurant and thought that it would be a nice place to go to lunch with my mom. My mother and I went to lunch at this restaurant and dealt with the most rude waitress I've ever had. She was rude, made no attempt at conversation, made faces at me at my mother when we asked her for something and finally slammed our meals onto our table. She made it clear that she was not happy to serve us. I paid our bill, but obviously did not tip the waitress. What happened next is the strangest thing I've ever seen at the restaurant. A person who said he was the manager approached me and my mother on our way out of the restaurant. He asked me if there was a problem. I thought he was asking because he wanted to alleviate the situation or offer an apology. I said "yes, there was a problem. The service was very bad". I was shocked because he sneered and said "don't come back here again, do you understand". I argued with the manager and the other customers could hear me and him exchanging words. I asked the manager "I want to speak to the owner of this restaurant." To my surprise he claimed to be the owner. I reiterated to this person that I thought this restaurant had the most terrible service I had ever seen at a restaurant (by the way I am a person that dines out frequently and frequently tips quite well for good service). If you are considering going to this restaurant please do yourself a favor and go to one of the other many reputable, CIVILIZED and good restaurants in the area.

Just be friendly – This place was outstanding! We went to brunch on a busy Sunday morning (first perfect day of the year). We were greeted by the the host/manager (guy who looks like Tyler Durden at the end of Fight Club) and requested a table outside. I introduced myself and told him I just moved to the neighborhood. He readily accepted my handshake and made sure we had the best service the entire time. While we were waiting for our food, he stopped by a few times to make small talk and jokes. He treated me like we were old buddies. I really think this guy just needs some attention and wants to feel like he's "cool". Now when I go back, he remembers me and takes great care of me.

The most rude service I've ever experienced – My last trip to Bar Tabac has altered it badly forever. I had been going there for years and last week had a party of 12 there for brunch. A few days later, on a Monday, my brother-in-law and sister went there for breakfast, and asked for a quiet table because he had to dial into a conference call. The waitress seated them in the back. I joined them after they finished their meal. So my sister and I sat at a different table to talk while her husband was on the phone. Out of nowhere a man--who was either the manager or owner--came over and told us not to go around the restaurant "f---ing up" all his tables. I was stunned, flabbergasted. Not only had I never been spoken to like that, I wasn't doing anything except sitting there talking. There were three patrons in the place, tops, so it wasn't like it was full by any means. He then told me "this isn't a gas station, it's a restaurant" and again said, "don't f--- up all the tables."

I won't eat there again, and will dissuade as many others as possible. Treating people like that is unacceptable and the restaurant needs to know that.

the maddness is the charm – it's a shame that more customers don't really grasp the charm of this great place. the maddness of it all is what brings my friends and i back each week. No, we're not really ever sure what the hell is going to happen during our brunch, or evening out, but thats the best part! the waitstaff looks to be really enjoying themselves and their humor and liberallness with the regulars creates a real fun-for-all atmosphere. My favorite employee is the little girl that hops around like a bunny and always seems to be genuinly pleased to see my husband and i. (p.s. word to the wise, try the specal cocktails. after a couple of them, you'll be seeing every thing with rose colored glasses, ha!)

Excellent special cocktails – I have been going to Bar Tabac for the last year and I am suprised to hear about all the disgruntled reviews. Contrary to the reveiws that I recently read, I find the service to be extremely courteous. The restaurant is constantly busy and anyone will notice how hard the waitstaff works to accomadate customers' requests. While waiting for a table, I have noticed customers complaining about the wait and I have also noticed it is those very same customers that refuse to relinquish a table after they have finished their meal, even when the front (area where people wait to be seated) is so full that the waitstaff have trouble servering the customers in the front. I have worked in the service industry in the past and I think these reveiws are unfair and representative of customers who have certain assumptions of their place in society in regards to waitstaff. Second, I love going to Bar Tabac because of the reasonable prices and great wine and cocktail selection. The food is great and the atmosphere, although a bit kitchy, is warm and inviting.

Great food but 'keymaster' is a keykooook – My fiancee and son and his friends dined there and the food and service was simply divine. The waitress was extremely courteous, helpful with the menu items, and a real treasure. The atmosphere there is similar to little smoky bistros in Paris, with the exception of the purported 'keymaster' that apparently pesters most of the patrons. But, overall the overall experience was wonderfully delightful and we will go back the next time we're in NYC; but a heads up to the keymaster...you will be best served not to be at work when we arrive...it could get ugly for you...

OOOOOHHHH LALA, I thinks me loves this place! – This retarded girl named Lizzy works there. She is sooooooooo cute y'all!!! The manager is funny and always treats us well with complimentory champagne. I wish more positive people would write reviews because for every person who has been, and left unhappy there are 299 that leave very satisfied, which is why the place is busy ALL the time. Lizzy is really cute. She will just run around into walls and cry like a baby for you any brunch. Unreal. If you are a good person, please go here. If not, there's a Chiles in New Jersy that would be glad to seat you.

Terrible Service - The manager will yell at you! – Awful experience, the manager yelled at us because we had sent back a dish that was not properly described on the menu. His hands came very close to my face as he was screaming at me telling me that he did not need us. Instead of yelling back we decided to leave. That manager will drag this place in the toilet very soon, I have heard of other experiences similar to mine when I told other people about the rudeness of this restaurant. Will NEVER go again, the food is also very average.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible – My partner and I had brunch yesterday with another couple and our morning was ruined by the service, in particular, the manager. My pregnant friend ordered the waffles with "fresh fruit" and was served brown, soggy peaches and grapes with an alcoholic aftertaste. As a physician, I know that minimal exposure to alcohol has not been proven to be detrimental to a developing infant; however, once we brought it to the waitresses' attention, the manager got involved and kept insisting that it was "fresh fruit." About the alcohol taste, he said, "it IS in alcohol." He then persisted in waving his finger in my partner's face and telling us that he "didn't need" us. After a stunned second, we got up and proceeded around the corner to Jolie for a beautifully salvaged Saturday morning. In my 8 years in NYC, this has never happened and NEVER have I walked out of a restaurant. I can't believe this place is still in business. Come on, ambience and taste are one thing, but dining involves hospitality and courtesy. This was not dining, it was an awful exercise in patience on our part.
