Best Thai in the city. Favorites: Coconut Curry, Red Curry, Choo Chee Curry. All are in the red curry family and they are AMAZING. I prefer take-out.
I had a really bad experience here, very poor customer service from the older bearded man at the front. I want to like this place because it's by my work but I won't be returning.
Such yummy food! – GREAT food! If you are walking by it is very hard to resist the smell. Yes, sometimes the staff can be a little rude, but I think it's worth it for such good food. KEEP IN MIND- these poor people have had a LOT of hardships lately! The chef just died in a horrible accident right near the restaurant. A little while ago, one of the ladies was attacked down the street from the restaurant and was robbed of all the restaurants money. There are some other things I have heard about it, but I won't say them on here. Maybe just give them a little leeway on their rudeness and just enjoy the great food that they make!
PS: They aren't that great about re-filling your water. I suggest asking for a pitcher at the beginning of your meal if you are an avid water drinker.
You will have to pay if they cook it! – My daughter and I just left True Thai moments ago. It's a very hot summer day and we decided to get some fresh spring rolls and egg rolls. We ordered them and decided- though it's more that we would normally eat- let's try a new dish. The rolls were wonderful! We then ordered a number 52- we weren't asked what type of seafood we wanted. The order arrived to our table and it looked very unappealing TO US, Many people would love it I'm sure......we did not. Because of the look and the texture- I knew I wouldn't be able to eat it. I took the corner of my fork, dipped it into the blended mush of egg and seafood- and decided that we would not want to keep this. Maybe we can try something else. As time passed I realized I had been there sometime and since we weren't very hungry anymore, we would just leave and maybe come back to try something else. When we finally got what appeared to be the restaurant manager over to our table we were in total shock that she was very upset with us when we said we didn't like it. My daugher and I frequent new restaurants, normally if I've had a few bites I will pay for it- but in this case I barely touched this dish. She said that we have to pay because they made it. I told her that I would not be able to pay- it was nothing that we expected. She continued to argue with me and was extremley rude. Finally she walked away yelling about us. I am in total shock that a restaurant would treat their customers this way. I REFUSED to pay and asked what we should do. Should I call the police, should she call the police- I have never been in this predicament before. Just know when going to this restaurant that if you completely dislike something, even if you barely touch it- they made it and will expect you to pay.
Rude,nonchalant and unfriendly customer service for take out – Hello:
We order from True Thai a lot. We even recommend the restaurant to friends. We usually eat-in and its nice ambience and service. Recently, I was trying to order a take-out over the phone and the person taking the order over the phone (male voice/might be the owner) was unhelpful and rude about the menu choices. And when I politely mentioned this over the phone to him at the end of the order, he hung up!
I guess they get too many customers and don't consider being polite of any importance in their business dealings.
Never received service – Seated outside, waited, and waited and waited. Received water. Never saw my waiter/waitress. Waited 15 minutes. Won't go back.
customer service is poor when you order take out food. – The food comes quick,, it's tasty and it's in a great neighborhood. I like to support small businesses.
But when I order take out, I find the employees (owner included), to be unfriendly and downright rude over the phone AND when I pick up the food.
Service inside the restaurant is good but the takeout customer service needs work.
Poor Customer Service has ruined this restaurtant – My wife and I had eaten here many times and, on numerous occasions brought out of town guests who also loved the food and service. Recently, my wife was reviewing our VISA statement and noticed a very high charge from True Thai. In fact, I had been over-charged by more that $70. When I called VISA, they insisted I call the restaurant. The bearded man (later met him) insisted that I need to drive to the restaurant with my statement, the ORIGINAL transaction receipt, and MY ID - in order to get a credit. He could not have been more rude in the process. We haven't gone back.
eh... – First time at true thai was great, and this was a few years ago and with no bearded man in sight. servers were friendly and wait wasn't too long. Second time which was a few days ago...not so good. Servers were still friendly. Food seems to be less than before but still good, especially the laab and curry. But did not get a refill of water until we were ready to pay and leave.
I sked the server if they did catering, because I enjoyed the laab a lot. She said they did, and we only needed to call ahead. However, when I went to go pay for our bill. A customer was ahead of me with his bank statemement, and was complaining to the man about being charged multiple times. The bearded man's attitude was rude to the customer, and only took his phone number to call him at a later time. By the time it was my turn to pay, he was already in a sour mood and was unpleasant towards my husband and I. I also asked him about catering, and he stated that there was no catering and his server was wrong. But the server said they had it, and this website even states the rest. under catering! What's up with that? I still would like to come to this place...if the bearded man is not there, and water refills would be nice.
rude – If I could I would rate our experience at True Thai as zero stars.
I am a 64-year-old retired professional man and do not consider myself a demanding or complaining person, but I almost find myself smiling as I recall the entrepreneurial clumsiness displayed to us yesterday when we tried to have lunch at True Thai. We spoke to a woman at the counter who told us it would be a few minutes. I replied that is fine and stepped back from the counter to wait. Several other parties came in and were seated so I asked politely why this was happening. A bearded gentleman, a staff or probably an owner of the place, was nearby and interjected himself into the exchange. He had overheard our inquiry and addressed us as if we were bad employees, harshly and condescendingly telling us that if we weren't standing exactly by the "wait until you are seated" sign we would be considered take-out customers. This apparently is necessary despite our prior conversation with the hostess, who did not instruct us exactly how to wait. No indications of that "system" are posted to my recollection. His manner reminded me of a supply sergeant rather than a host.
Because of this attitude we told him we were leaving and he shrugged. We left and went to Tum Rup Thai where the food is reliably good and the staff are always pleasant. The availability of so many well-run, good, and friendly restaurants in the neighborhood and city, neither I nor anyone I know will feel it necessary to try this restaurant again. No meal is worth the responsibility of absorbing this man's unhappiness.
