Depends on technician! – I went to the Peninsula twice for a facial and reflexology. I had Erin and she was amazing! I have sensitive skin and she ensured that I would not have adverse results by testing two products in small patches. Only then did she apply the products. She was super sweet and took her time. Next time I went, Erin was booked, so I got Isabelle.I explained to her about my skin and what Erin had done. She acted irritated and impatient and said that she did not have the time to do all that and its not what she does. She then acted quite rude and gave me attitude the whole time. Anyways, lesson learned. Avoid Isabelle and go to Erin!

Best spa in Chicago – I had the most amazing experience at the Peninsula Spa. The entire spa staff was extremely helpful and made my experience one I will not forget. I had the Ama Releasing Massage. I am a seasoned spa goer and it was so refreshing to find a spa that actually has services that I have never received. The facility was beautiful and they truely paid attention to every detail. I live in Chicago and will definitely be back! Amazing spa!!!

TECHNICIAN TEXTING WHILE GIVING REFLEXOLOGY – Where do I begin? I went to this spa for my 30th birthday for a facial and reflexology. While Shanna was giving me reflexology she sat at the bottom by my feet texting on her phone. When I tried to sit up she hid the phone and claimed it was a timer. I complained to the manager and did get a gift certificate, but upon return months later found out Shanna is still working here. At $155 for reflexology is it unreasonable to ask that the technician put her phone down? I've never heard of this before! When I went back the girls up front were so stupid they charged me 11% sales tax on an item I bought. This spa is very pricey, but filled with complete idiots who make what should be a nice, relaxing experience, completely miserable. Relaxing at home would be nicer than ever entering this spa again! Avoid it.

Spa is Unavailable for Hotel Guests – My wife and I reserved a birthday weekend away at the Peninsula, with the intent on indulging in spa treatment. Regardless of their reputation, don't be fooled. What CAN be done, isn't necessarily what WILL be done. Reserving a Saturday or Sunday hour-long massage proved to be impossible. Even for guests of the hotel in the dead of winter. I called three weeks prior, and the only available times were 8 am and 6:30 pm. For both days. Clearly the spa is not for hotel guests, but for the locals who can wait out a protracted queue. Like maybe a month or more. Also, as readers off CitySearch know, the chef at the hotel restaurant, "Avenues" has left and is starting his own restaurant in River North. One more reason to bypass the over-rated Peninsula Hotel. Definitely a 1980's product.

Not a guest out of luck. – Lame. Called to make a reservation for the weekend spa and was told that the spa was only open "to the public" M-Thursday. They really should note that on the website and citysearch should note it as well. If you are a not a guest tough luck.

Good technician, but broke out from products – I have gone to this spa everytime I'm in Chicago and have loved it. Great service and ambiance. I hadn't been there in awhile, but went in for a facial. Apparently, they switched skin care lines from the last time I had been in and and I tried a Brightening Facial. The esthetician was wonderful and I was very relaxed. Unfortunately, I experienced a horrible reaction from something in the products. Sad, because I never had this happen at previous visits.

Rather pricy, but well worth it - if you're looking for classic luxury, this is the place – One thing I can vouch for is the consistency of quality that the Peninsula hotel/spas offer. I've been to 3 Peninsula locations and haven't been disappointed yet. The spa experience @ the Peninsula is what a spa experience should be... luxurious, relaxing, accommodating, and well-appointed ... the facilities and decor were classic and extremely luxurious - I appreciated the attention to detail in terms of appealing to sight, sound, touch, and taste - spacious locker rooms and traditional roman/rain showers, luxurious white furnishings, fragrant flowers everywhere, ambient music, fruit waters and nuts everywhere, and plenty of staff members to jump to attention when you so much as nod. The massage therapist was very attentive, talented, and not talkative, the massage room was spacious and well-appointed, and the massage/aromatherapy products they used were appealing to the senses. The facialist was wonderfully old-school; excellent facial process and massage technique, products were applied and well-steamed, and thorough extraction/cleansing. Although the pedicurist could have been a bit more thorough, she was very good and the results were consistent. I highly recommend it if luxury, attention, and service is more important than price.

ITS NOT THE FINEST – I've been all over the world and had the distinct pleasure of staying at some of the finest places on this small planet and this, my friends, is not one of them! First, if I run into Jennifer Aniston one more time after she's had a "break up" I'm going to scream! The rooms I've stayed in leave me asking myself why I even bother staying here, but the music in the lobby keeps me coming back. Very nice live ensemble that have me thinking of the time I saw John Tesh perform Chariots of Fire at the 1984 Olympics in LA. Breathtaking!! The staff is nice and the food is SCRUMPTIOUS:):) I give the Peninsula a rating of two and one half stars...

A posh address in the Penisula Chicago lures money and celebrity into this sleek oasis for luxurious, Asian-inspired treatments. – In Short
Swiss sauna meets South Beach in this contemporary bi-level spa that ups its cool factor with a private terrace and yoga studio. Pine walls on all sides warm up an open lobby decorated simply with fresh-cut orchids, but the gem is a mosaic-tiled lounge overlooking the pool area, where power brokers relax on stuffed chaises in between massages, facials and other treatments. Staff members are ESPA-trained, focusing on holistic European and Asian therapies.

Absolutely the best hotel in Chicago – Yes, the prices are stratospheric. But the service here is beyond compare. From the hotel rooms to the restaurants to the pool/spa, everything is simply top-notch. the staff is always around, but they know to keep just enough distance -- in other words, they're helpful, not annoying.
