Awful service, mediocre food.
My husband went on a Saturday night when they were somewhat busy, but not at capacity. We were seated at a table right in the middle of the room, yet somehow every member of the waitstaff managed to ignore us for almost the entire evening. We didn't receive water or menus for nearly 20 minutes, our bottle of wine wasn't opened, and once we finally ordered it took nearly ONE HOUR to get our entrees. (The appetizers arrived in about 20 minutes). We surmise the main problem was that there was one large party- about 6 or 7 people- and they were clearly friends of the manager/hostess/someone, because they were lavished with attention. Someone from the wait staff actually sat at their table with them for a few minutes-- while we sat hungry at ours. No one even checked in with us to let us know why our food was taking so long. If we weren't in the middle of the room I would have assumed no one could see us and therefore forgot about us. The food, when it finally arrived, was fine. The fish was rather overcooked (a shame when one pays $30 for it) and the risotto was ok.
I can say with confidence we will never return to this restaurant.
CLOSED - as of early 2009.
According to their site, they are closed and possibly relocating....
From the outside window it just looks like a small bar, but a fair sized dining room is inside. The tiny bar is usually busy and the dining room was packed on my last visit. The dining area is a bit cramped. The walls are stocked with bottles of wine. A chilled mood is set with the dim candle lights and upbeat ambient groove music. The setting is good for a date or a hangout with a couple of friends (keep in mind that the tables are small). The tastiness of the food is what stands out for me. My recommendations are the organic spinach, pepperoni pizza, and duck leg confit. The duck is fantastic: very tender and falling off the bone. It?s also very rich. The robust flavors of the pizza and fresh frites are good with a red wine. A ? order of the plantain chips is the way to go for a small appetizer. The service has been great: attentive, giving good menu advice, and positive attitude. Marjorie is now one of my favorite joints with a funky ambiance.
Cozy and cute place to celebrate an anniversary. My boyfriend and I celebrated an anniversary at Marjorie and found it to be the perfect place for us. The setting was casual but the menu was spectacularly formulated for a diverse palette. We enjoyed a wonderful array of appetizers and shared a duck entree. I was very pleased with the service for a Friday night. The staff were not overtly friendly but took care of us in a collective manner. The only complaint may be that there was no bread basket and everyone was only offered one small piece of bread. Besides that the dining experience was very satisfying and the ceiling decor was tasteful and funky. Highly recommended.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. The Belltown outpost of this Irish pub offering miles of pool tables, tvs for watching the game, and--of course--Guinness.
Perfect Summer Spot. It took me way too long to discover this cute Belltown spot. Summer days are the perfect time to come; the shady outdoor terrace is great for escaping the heat while sipping on a kick-you-in-your-heels-strong margarita. Crispy, salty plantain chips dipped in fresh guacamole provide the perfect happy hour accompaniment. Oh yes, and the service is fantastic too. What can I say? I simply love this place.
Like Europe!. This place was very cozy and we had a great time celebrating our special occasion. I felt like I was in Europe walking in there. The only down side was that our table for two was about 6 inches away frmo the table of two next to ours... They didn't have too much conversation going on and I felt like we were being overtly eaves-dropped on during the whole meal! That took away a significant bit of the romance, unfortunately. If you don't mind that sort of thing then this is the place for you! Otherwise you might want to ask for a corner table or go on a less busy night. Wonderful ambiance though - fun menu, nice wine selection, lovely little twinkle lights... they have it figured out!
The perfect Valentine's Day. My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's Day because it was recommended to us by a regular. We arrived and the staff treated us like family the second we stepped in the door until the moment we left. They had saved the best corner table for us and never missed an opportunity to check on how we were doing. There was a set menu that was amazing and the waitress recommended a wonderful bottle of wine with dinner. If you are looking for a great date spot that is upscale but not uptight I think this Belltown restaurant has to be one of the best in Seattle!
Best Bar in Belltown. The best bartender in Seattle! The food is excellent and the ambiance is wonderful for couples or groups. A sophisticated place to enjoy a drink!
people really still go here?. I was amazed at the slow and inattentive service. I was even more amazed at my $8 extremely small and mediocre salad. I could cound the number of leaves on one hand. I had high hopes, as I have friends who love coming here. But both my husband and I left hungry with a significant dent in our checkbook. The place is pretty and romantic, but that's it.
Jewel of Belltown.
My partner and I love this restaurant--it might even be my favorite in Belltown. We went here for Valentine's Day. Service was a bit on the slow side but not unreasonable as it was busy. Our drinks were strong. His drink was too strong actually but they happily replaced it with a tamer drink. I unfortunately don't remember what we had to eat for dinner. We had two desserts that were great. I had the dark chocolate with a glass of port--both were fantastic.
I'm looking forward to returning. This is definitely a couples' restaurant. It is small so I wouldn't recommend bringing a large party.
