Last two times I was there, did not enjoy the food. The beef pot pie tasted like dog food. I sent it back. This last time I ordered raspberry ice tea & it tasted like flavored water. For $2.50, there should have been some tea in it. My son was ordered French onion soup and he was given a bowl that had obviously been sitting a while because the cheese was hard & the soap barely warm. When the manager asked us how everything was going, we told him our concerns, but he only took the soup off the bill & told me that the raspberry tea was the same that was served to many people that day. I was insulted. I have drank many glasses of raspberry ice tea & this was the worse. I didn't drink it & was out $2.50. Tired of getting bad food here & will not come back.
This is my favorite Mimi's since it's close to me. I like sitting in the back room so I can people watch. It also tends to be the quiet room. Place is busy on the weekends so plan for it. Lots of parking.
All around good food. During the weekend this place goes get busy for brunch and lunch. The hostess and waiters are really nice and do take care of you.
Atmosphere rules at this French New Orleans-themed spot that serves traditional American fare. – In Short
Decorated like a French country bistro with jazzy New Orleans overtones, Mimi's Café was named after a lost love of Arthur Simms, who started the restaurant in 1978 in Anaheim, Calif., with his family. The ambience could only be upstaged by the menu filled with traditional American favorites. Breakfast includes omelets, waffles, muffins and fresh-squeezed juices, while lunch and dinner feature comfort-food classics like pot pie and pot roast, deli-style sandwiches, burgers, pastas, steaks and salads.
UKH! – I just came back from a meal at Mimi's in the Valley. The food was almost acceptable, except for how bland the flavor was. I asked for a blueberry muffin and was brought (what I'm sure was) the same one I just saw picked up off another table in front of me. I'm trying not to be suspicious, but it was microwaved, soggy, fell apart, and smelled like garlic (I dont know why.) The food was really too greasy, and the toast is not really toast. The good thing is they got our orders right and the server was very nice. But other than that, never again.
just average – this restaurant was not bad, but I was really in the mood for cajun food. mimi's came up on citysearch as the nearest cajun place. on the menu were mexican & teriyaki items, etc. and it seemed that only two items on the menu were actually cajun dishes. both had the work "cajun" in the title, which would seem unnecessary at a Cajun restaurant. i'm sure their other food is great, but if you're in the mood for a place where you get to choose between etoufees, creole, succotash, gumbo, jambalaya, etc., this isn't the place. they only had pasta jambalaya on the menu. the popcorn shrimp was tasty. i'm not assuming it's a tendency, but rather that the waiter got bogged down: our cajun-blackened salmon was chewy. the place is a lot like ruby tuesday, or TGIFriday's. average american food with cute over-the-top cajun decor.
Great Comfort Food – Since I first posted my review on Citysearch back in 2003, we've been frequenting this particular Mimi's location a few times every year. After all these years (it's now 2008) it's still a good place for great comfort food. I've come to depend on them for my french onion soup fix...and a good fish & chips plate.
My husband is always willing to try a new dish here...looking for the ultimate in comfort food. It's convenient Los Feliz location makes it very popular with the local folks...and those shopping at the big box stores in the same parking lot.
If you've never been to a Mimi's and are looking for a new neighborhood option, give it a try.
Extreamly Friendly, and great food – I've been to Mimi's before, but it wasn't anything exciting. This was about three years ago. Since then, my entire opinion has changed about them. This new one that opened up about a month ago is FANTASTIC! The food is great, and you get so much. Breakfast is a joy, they have a great selection of food. My fave is the Monterey Omelet. The staff is absolutely friendly. Want to substitute something in your omelet, they'll do that for you as well. Clean, neat, friendly, and good food. A great addition to the Atwater area.
Wonderful consitancy – Having been to three Mimi's, all have provided outstanding service, a wide variety of food, and all very delicious. From the huge salads and sandwiches for lunch, or the comfort food dinner, to the equsite desserts, Mimi's is a wonderful place for people of all ages and palates
