Worst indian ever – Worst Indian food ever.

I have been eating indian food for over 25 years, in England, Ireland, Spain, NYC, SLC, and even syracuse, liverpool, and clinton in upstate ny.

I found the service to be good at first, and decor was fine, I could see by the lack of tapestry on hard wall how it could become loud in there quickly once busier.

The food was lacking, and must say is the worst indian food I have had yet, I'd rather eat an indian frozen dinner (which most are actually very tasty , so nothing against them but you get the point, they cost $3.29ish not $15.00) back to the point..

The Seekh Kabob was okay.. not terrible, not good... but edible.

The Rice was not very good, somewhat burnt-greasy almost?

I had a coupon from their website for a "bogo" on entree's (up to $10 maximum value, they have no entrees for under $13 so it's a $10 off coupon)

With this in mind I ordered a Chicken Mhakani , and a Lamb Dish with a tomato/onion base that sounded tasty on the menu had never read it's name before and can't quite remember it, but it's below vindaloo on the menu.

The chicken was somewhat firm , and the sauce was very poor lacking any real flavor other than burnt butter or margarine.

The Lamb i don't think was lamb , I think it was over cooked stewing mutton and was very firm with that distinctive iron/liver edge that overcooked lamb gets.

I ate two bites of each , just in case I was wrong on first taste.

I quietly got up from my table, approached the counter away from the customers , informed my server that I would only be paying for my appetizer and beverage. He became somewhat upset at the situation and was trying to get me to pay, saying that I had ordered and must pay.

He asked why I ordered two meals I wouldn't like. He asked if I had eaten indian before I explained I had eaten indian many times and that the chicken dish when cooked well is a favorite of mine, and that I regularly enjoy a variety of lamb dishes with similar ingredients, that my intention was to have leftovers for later tonight and that a customer pays to eat, not to order garbage. I paid for my appetizer and beverage and left.

All in all worst Indian restaurant experience EVER

Great Lunch Buffet – This is one of my favorite places for lunch. The buffet offers a variety of options and I always leave full and satisfied. The wait staff is also professional and courteous.

Truely Awful – Against my better judgement, my wife convinced me to try this restaurant with some guests we had visiting.

We tried 4 different vegetarian entrees. Three of them were below average, being bland and oily. The fourth was actually "off" as in not fit to eat. They refused to agree with us that it was unfit to eat (although they admitted it had been made 2 days prior), and would not take it off our bill, so we had them bring something different.

Add to that poor service, average decor and above average prices. I would not recommend this restaurant.

What is curious to me is all the framed awards they show at the entrance. The only explanation I can come up with is that they make food for Westerners who don't know any better.

Not to be missed – The India House is Rochester's best kept secret. It's cozy, romantic, tasty & fun. Lots of vegetarian dishes on the menu, as well as a separate vegetarian cafe across the street. The service is quiet, prompt, courteous & thorough. The chairs could be a tad more comfortable.

For those who arent familiar with indian food, be sure to make the India House your first stop & you will not be disappointed.
