Awesome food & great service – I'm new in the area...moved to Groton 8 months ago. I've been to A1 atleast once a week, sometimes 3 times a week. I also get delivery. I've tried everything on the menu, from the pizza to the prime rib. It was always very good. The place is brand new and clean. I would highly recommend A1 to anyone for any occasion. BEST place in the area!!! Thank you A1 for always meeting expectations!!!

OMG – What happened to this place, used to be my favorite. Was looking forward to an excellent lunch, got there and stood at hostess stand for 10 minutes, listening to 2 waitresses and cook whooping it up in the kitchen. Waitress was unkept and had no hospitality. She spilled my coffee all over the place and served it in a saucer full of coffee. She served my soup and spilled that all over the place. She was more interested in hanging in the kitchen with her friends than serving. Her name is Jennifer and the other waitress' name was Ashley. They were so loud and obnoxious. I got no refill on my coffee or water and was there over an hour. There was only myself and a couple in the dining room. The also answered the phone snidely and hung up immmediately if they did not hear someone respond on the phone. I used to think they had the best calamari in the fingerlakes regiuon but not anymore. The waitress brought me smashed potatoes instead of fries, when I approached her she told me she would get them. After waiting 15 minutes I just got the check, paid and left. For the first time in my life I did not leave any tip and justifiably so.There for a minute I thought I was on one of those TV shows where they purposely try to piss you off and if they don't they give you money. Believe me I should have been paid for pain and suffering and think I may contact Alexander and Catilano because A1 is a wreck! Minus 5 stars!

Dirty, Salty Food, Maybe for snacks and drinks. – The good: The generous drink portions for wine and non-alcoholic beverages, the appetizers were palletable (fried calamari was tender but overly salty, the motzorella sticks were good, and the marinara dipping sauce was okay), the salads were fresh and simple.

The bad: There were A LOT OF FLIES. With that many flies in the dining room one can only think about how many flies are in the kitchen. Wait staff openly claimed to be overworked or was lying to get a better tip (not professional). The facility was not clean and had very dusty lamp fixtures and spider webs in booth corners. One set of utensils was obviously not clean.

The entrees ranked very poor and are what really scored this restaurant a 1 of 5. The dishes each used obvious bagged pre cooked and pre cut chicken. The chicken Marsala was spinach over pasta with beef gravy and about three mushrooms on the overcooked chicken. The food had an odd dishwasher soap taste at the bottom of the dish in two different entres. The shrimp sampi dish was completely devoid of sauce and was mostly overcooked chicken not shrimp. The chicken alfredo pasta sauce was an out of the jar sauce with a lot of bacon cooked into it which made the dish too salty to eat. The meals were not really hot upon arrival, possibly all pre-cooked then just assemble to serve?

This restaurant should be avoided unless you are looking for a snack and a drink. The appetizers were not great but were cheap enough and the salads were okay. The pizza was not sampled and the entrees were terrible. The bill came to about $80 for three entrees, two appetizers, three salads, two glasses of wine, and two regular fountain drinks.

Lastly, beer was not consumed because the selection is mainly domestic large breweries (Budweiser, Coors, etc.) but contained almost no local beer bottles or micro-breweries foreign or domestic.

Wish I could give less than one star... – So we went to A1 tonight in Dryden, they just reopened after remodeling...we used to LOVE it! When my husband and I where engaged (7 yrs ago), we went there every day! Today though, it was horrible!!! From the conversation on the phone (to find out their hours: "well, we're open until whenever they decide to let us leave") to the horrible salads (how can you mess that up?! It's basically iceberg lettuce, bad tomatoes, and cheese) to the nasty pasta (overcooked, and she didn't even offer to bring me more) and cold prime rib...ugh! Also, the owner came in and bawled the workers out for smoking in the kitchen! Eww! Then when he left, the workers bad mouthed him. And we could hear all of this because part of the remodel was to open up the kitchen to the dinning room. Lastly, as we left there where three cooks and a cashier in the front parking lot smoking...ok, so don't smoke in the kitchen, do it in front of the establishment...

Next time, it's either Hollywood or Pontillo's (both in Cortland, NY)!

Don't bother since Gus left – OK so my husband and I went to A-1 in Dryden yesterday for dinner. Big mistake. Disappointed. That used to be our absolute FAVORITE place to go for pasta...but lately (since the previous owner, Gus, left) the quality of the food there has gone on a steep downhill slide. Unless they bring back Gus and let him run it...I'm done with that place. YEECCH. This was three strikes for me. First we got some nasty "critters" in our take home bag, then a few months later we tried again...and my husband found an apple in his Seafood Lasagna Alfredo sauce. And then yesterday I had a big, long hair in my pasta dish.

Forget it. Bring back GUS!!!! He ran a tight ship, and a GREAT establishment. A-1 may have a new look, but the food is terrible now.

I'd go back. – This is a good place to go for a night out. The prices are quite reasonable for the amount of food you get. The atmosphere is pleasant with a beautiful mural that is lovely to look at. The staff was attentive but not overbearing.

My favorite restaurant – A-1 is the best value around. And it's not just a lot of food for not a lot of money. It's a lot of GREAT food for not a lot of money!! The wait staff is always friendly and the portions are huge! Just be sure to get there early on Firday and Saturday nights!

A1 - Excellent food – The A1 is actually a Greek (Ionian)/Italian restaurant. Gus, the owner, makes sure that everything is up to par. The food is delectable, with portions being more than I can handle. The menu features steak, seafood, chicken, pasta, pizza, and Greek speacialties. Full bar includes New York State wines. This restaurant is unpretentious, family-friendly, and a wonderful value.
