One of my favorite happy hour spots – I've tried many other places but I still love coming to the Lounge at Benjy's for happy hour (4-7 weekdays). The drinks are always good (i love their blood orange margeritas and their mojitos), and the food specials are delish. I think I've tried everything on the menu but the standouts are the dumplings, the pizza, and the tofu. They have other dishes that rotate (they used to have sliders and these great salmon tacos but they don't anymore) and everything's pretty good, so be adventurous and try whatever you're in the mood for. The place usually gets packed between 6-7pm happy hour time, so if you want a good spot I suggest coming early around 5pm. The deck overlooking the parking lot is a great way to hang out and enjoy the evening air if you can snag one of the high-in-demand tables, and even if I can't get a seat when I initially get there, eventually someone will get up and leave me a spot if I stay long enough. This is one of those places you can drop by for a quick bite or stay as long as you wish. I actually like it in the twilight around 9-10pm, when the place starts to wind down, you can hang, chill and have a good time relaxing with friends.
Posh little Rice Village joint cuts a space-age, bachelor-pad groove. – The Scene
This low-key upstairs lounge complements the bustling restaurant below. Passing through thick strands of silver beads that hang over the entrance, patrons discover a world unto itself. Bamboo-ribbed paper lanterns, tropical plants and an impressive array of retro couches and ottomans accentuate the space-age, bachelor-pad ambience. Need a smoke? The patio offers a pleasant view of the Villages' tree-lined streets.
In the evening, happy hour patrons and those waiting for a table downstairs mingle as they enjoy generous drink specials. After 10pm, savvy scenesters relax as various flavors of jazz-tinged electronic music buzz around them.
Rip off – We left cash for our bar bill (which was a few dollars over the tip, which they had already included in the bill) on our table before leaving and when our friends got ready to pay their bill, the waitress told them that we didn't leave any money in with our tab. I can't tell you how humilating we were to be called and told we didn't pay our bar bill by our friends! Our friends had to pay the bar bill again (which was just under $100)! Sound like a place you want to go? Not us, we will never return to this place and will never recommend it to anyone! Something tells us our waitress was a little richer when she left that evening!
Great place! – Cozy atmosphere, interesting, classy people, smooth service and convenient location. Nice patio if you can get to it. Highly recommended.
FABULOUS!!! – I absolutely loved Benjy's lounge! It's the perfect anytime place! Our glasses never dried out! The service was incredible! Definitely recommend!!!
Serene and fun – Benjy's is the perfect place to meet someone you haven't seen in a while. It's decorated well enough inside so that if the weather on the patio isn't good, you can chill with a martini in a hip atmosphere.
Hit or miss – I've gone here a handful of times and had a different experience every time. One time it was completely dead. Another, it was packed with beautiful people. The next was a mix. The food is really good, and they serve a limited menu until late, good for those of us late night snackers. I love the decor and the crowd is usually classy, if not always cute.
Benjy's Lounge – It's a nice and cozy layout...when the crowd is not too large. On busy nights it's much too 'shoulder to shoulder'.
So this is a singles scene? – Was there Sat 6-Dec-2003 right around midnight. The place is surprisingly small. Most of the tables were taken but overall the scene was subdued and seemed dead. This place is touted as a singles scene but I noticed only two women who appeared unattached. Most women there seemed high-class. If you're a guy, you better have all the goods (looks, appearance, smoothness) or else I don't think you'll have any luck meeting women at this place.
Hidden Gem – This is the coolest little bar in Houston -- bar none! There are couches, club chairs, cocktail tables, and a great outdoor deck. It is hidden on the second floor of Benjy's Restaurant and is not completely crowded on weeknights. The drinks are great (full bar, lots of wines by the glass), the service is good, and the appetizers are fantastic. And... the people watching is always the best!!
