Citysearch Editorial Review – One of Santa Monica’s historic spots, this 2nd Street favorite is part specialty grocery shop and bakery, part tearoom and restaurant. English, Scottish and Irish expats as well as neighborhood regulars have gathered here for a nostalgic taste of home since 1962. Kids love to partake in a real tea party, and the restaurant is also charmingly family friendly. Sunshine splashes into the dining room over salmon-colored walls, white tablecloths and Blue Willow china; afternoon tea is served daily from 10:30am-5pm. Traditional English breakfasts feature black pudding, fried tomatoes and English baked beans, as well as smoked salmon and eggs. Lunch offers soups, salads and fresh made meat pies--beef and onion, steak and kidney, shepherd’s pie and Cornish pasties--as well as bangers and mash. Dinner expands on this menu with some fancier items like coq au vin, New York steak and a curried Bombay burger. Four traditional tea choices range from an inexpensive Cream Tea featuring tea, scones and fresh strawberries with Devonshire cream ($9.25), to the Victoria tea that includes champagne, smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches, scones, eclairs and tea ($19.95).
