Left with bags full of clothing! I had a wonderful time shopping here with my friends and I brought my 7 year old. The young girl working was super helpful, she hand picked out outfits offered water and helped keep my son busy! I will be shopping here again and can't wait to buy another pair of designer jeans for less then half the normal price! Silver Lining you SAVED my wardrobe! Thanks for helping me and I will be back every Saturday to see what you pick out for me again!

Horrible Customer Service and Rude Behavior – My mother, sisters, and myself packed our kids in the car and headed to Sellwood from Sherwood (a 45 minute drive) to check out this place because it looked upscale, but affordable. Sisters day out with shopping and lunch - should've been fun. We love to shop together and were there to buy. We had our kids in tow and they were on their best behavior (5, 3, 2, & 14 mo). No one was ripping down shelves, running in circles, even shouting. I was impressed. However as we were trying on items the older lady with silver hair behind the counter started saying "Walking Feet" over and over. When we finally discovered she was talking to us - we said "What is walking feet?" to which she replied "no running feet, just walking".Uhhhh lady our kids aren't running. We let that one go cuz my mom wanted this hot pair of heels she found for $20. Then she said "Inside Voices!" Okay lady thats it!! Our kids aren't making noise!!!! She looked at us like we had a disease and we decided to leave. We placed everything we had to try on back on the shelf and left immediately. I will never return - even if I had no children with me. I will not support her with my consignment or my money. She was so rude - I was flabbergasted. Are you telling me that there are never children in her store? She needs to post a sign on her door "CHILDREN ARE EATEN HERE" or "ALLERGIC TO CHILDREN" so we know the owner is a heartless wench and to stay away.

Silver Lining has always seemed to be a bit short on customer service when I have shopped there but as to children I can say I have never seen any there and it is always so quiet and somber that I would feel uncomfortable taking anyone under the age of abou17 in.

Find another location for you nice clothes to sell on consignment – I agree with others who have said that the staff are disagreeable and unhelpful. I left a gorgeous, never-worn linen dress, one of a kind and super-stylish, and ended up with a check (which I had to drive out and pick up!) for $6. I'd have done much better to donate it, as another reviewer suggested. This neighborhood has many wonderful shops but SL is not one of them. True, they have a lot of top-brand clothing but it's far from a pleasant shopping experience. The staff are as unfriendly to shoppers as they are to consigners.

Editorial Review – The Silver Lining is a great place to shop for second-hand and vintage clothing, as well as a place to get cash for your clothes.

Nice owner Great Brands – I just found this little shop on Milwaukie in Sellwood and I love it! The owner is nice in person and on the phone. High quality items (even Nanette Lepore, Coach, Dansko etc). I bought some great earrings for my sister's birthday. I would recommend checking it out.

Why bother? – Well, you may find some things to buy here, but I'm guessing there will be fewer and fewer selections as they are not exactly accommodating to their consignees. And it's not exactly a warm and fuzzy shopping experience either. If you are thinking of consigning things, why not donate them to Dress for Success instead? First of all, you will only get 40% of the selling price if they sell your items. They do very little for the 60% that they take. They won't even spend the 41 cents for a stamp to send you the check. if you don't come pick it up, they keep the money. You also have to pick up any unsold clothing within 6 days of the consignment period - and no, they will not call you. They are hoping you either forget or consider it too much of a hassle. You will have to make multiple trips, because the dates to pick up your clothes and the date when the check is ready are generally weeks apart. If they make it cumbersome enough (which they have), they can basically run their store by selling merchandise that was free to them. I might even be O.K. with that, but they are so unfriendly and they make you feel like a pathetic beggar when you bring in things to consign. Never Again!

Be sure to allow time to shop-when you bring in things to consign!! – I live in the neighborhood, too, & check in at The Silver Lining every week-to see what's new! I always find something I love, & the staff is helpful & friendly. It's easy to know what to bring in-current, in-season clothes that are clean, pressed & on hangars. High-end labels are what customers love to find. A pretty & busy shop! Fun reading glasses, jewelry, etc.

Neat idea, poor customer care. – The store is in a great location. I really enjoy recycling my old things. However the service is not so great. I was treated "less than." The owner was rude and bossy when explaining the consignment policy. If you like good cutomer service, shop elsewhere. And by all means if you are going to consign here: Bring Your Own Hangers!! It puts them out if they have to do that for you!
