Delicious and authentic food – My wife and I are a bit shocked by the poor recommendations.

Service:

The service is pretty good for a neighborhood restaurant, and let's face it; you don't go to a Chinese restaurant for, "Service with a smile." Frankly, it is really hard to get used to the poor service at authentic Chinese restaurants, but it?s not going to change anytime soon.

Menu:

The food here is pretty authentic. If you are not looking to venture out from the typical chop soy menu (Americanized Chinese) then you should probably stick with Snappy Dragon (decent service, clean dining area), or PF Changs (Classy Asian Fusion and service with a smile).

However, if you are interested in an authentic experience then do some due diligence regarding the menu. Find a friend with a background in authentic Chinese cuisine (I'd be lost without my wife, a native of Hong Kong) and ask them for advice.

Recommendations:

My wife and I love the menu and at the very minimum, recommend the Shanghai steamed dumplings and the stir fried rice cakes. They also have an interesting appetizer (can't remember the name) that involves thinly sliced beef brisket and pickled cabbage wrapped in a thin pancake thingy (doesn?t sound appetizing, but I order it nearly every time).

Seriously though, don't go to an authentic Chinese restaurant expecting the emphasis to be on spiffy service and wait staff dying to give you menu recommendations.

It is truly, ?All about the food.?

Better food and service around the corner – I have been to this restaurant a few times and have had consistently bad service and mediocre food. They do seat you promply, but aside from that, everything else is so-so.

When I try restaurants for the first time, I like to ask the waiter/waitress/owner for their recommendations of the best dishes. At this restaurant, the owner recommended some type of meatball dish that she said was a Shanghainese specialty. They came out barely warm and mushy; I could've sworn they were Costco meatballs mixed with sweet & sour sauce. I also got some kind of special noodle dish that was mediocre - short on the meat but not low on the price.

I had the same experience as other reviewers using my entertainment card. There is supposedly a sign at the door that if you use the entertainment card, you must announce it before you order and they give you a different menu. This is ludicrous - they should be removed from the program immediately.

The owner, who served me the few times I've been here, seems indifferent to customers. That's fine, I'll happily take my business elsewhere where the food and service are better.

very oily food and bad service – The food was so greasy, my boyfriend said it's sickening. Even though I like shanghainese food, we'll never go back again for the terrible service.

Coupons users beware – They don't like to honor coupons. When I tried to use the web coupon from Entertainment.com, the waiter said he couldn't read English and the owner was not around, so he could not honor it.

Another time I tried to use Entertainment book's discount card. To avoid problems, I showed it to the waiter before we order. He then replaced our menus with different ones which, in his own words, have higher prices.

One of the dishes we ordered was "Tofu with crab meat". It turned out to be tofu with imitation crab meat. The other one, a shrimp dish, did have real shrimps, and it tasted ok.
