excellent food and service – I have eaten there many times, alone and also with friends, and I always feel comfortable. The food is delicious and colorful, the service very attentive, and I always feel absolutely well when I leave there. The background music is great, the owner is very hospitable and involved, and they also have a little market there where I buy lentils and spices to take home and cook. They even sell soap and toiletries from India. I can't say enough. I just love it!
Disappointing – Finally tried IP after hearing good things about it & was disappointed... Yes, the spices are good, but the chicken in the masala was dry, & the lamb in the saag was too well done. Also, many of the dishes contained what seemed to be ginger strings which kept getting caught in my teeth! I've eaten Indian food in many cities & never experienced anything like it! I will give it another try since maybe the prep chef was having an off day w/ the grater...
Rude Restaurant – We are frequent visitors to their buffet and do not plan to go there any more. We have a daughter who is 2 years and 10 months. In none of our previous visits the restaurant charged for her. In our last visit there was an additional $5 charge on the bill and when I asked the waiter what it was for he replied that it was for the child. I asked the waiter what was the age at which they start charging and the waiter did not know and asked the owner. To my surprise the owner replied it was 2 and half years. No where else have I heard of a child age limit of 2.5. I approached the owner and told him that they should have a notice in the restaurant so that the customer knows what the age limit is. The owner came up with rude, meaningless and false responses such as ?no restaurant in town has such notices?, ?a child is a child? and ?we?ve had a notice for 10 years and it doesn?t work? etc? He abruptly discontinued the discussion by answering his phone? Their food is OK but their money-minded service has ruined all our experiences there? $5 is not a big deal but I felt cheated with their ?child is a child? policy? Families with kids may want to avoid visiting this restaurant to avoid an embarrassing situation that I had?
Pretty Good Lunch Buffet – This is the first Indian restaurant we've been to in Albuquerque and we werent disappointed. There was a good selection of dishes at the buffet and the servers were very attenative. $7.99 is a reasonable amount to pay for the food we had. Parking was a bit of a nightmare at high noon, but outside that, no complaints. We will return
UPDATE 9/15/09: We havent been to India Kitchen yet, but 2 years after writing this review I can say now that India Palace is easily the Best Indian restaurant in ABQ. Period
Best Birthday Ever – In my family, a long-standing tradition states that on one's birthday, one chooses the restaurant to dine at-preferably a nice one we've never been to before. For my 18th, I chose India Palace on Montgomery and Wyoming, and that meal, more than a year and half ago, is still burned into my mind-or rather my palate. Literally. Actually, the food at India Palace does not incorporate undue heat (unless one likes it that way), but beware of that green dip stuff they plop down on your table along with those spicy flat crackers-it will burn your tongue off and then some. Luckily, the service at IP is so attentive that my glass of water was refilled before it even got put back on the table. My actual entree was delicately flavored and rich, and even though I was gut-bustingly, rib-achingly full by the time I got to desert, it would take a man with a heart of stone to reject the lovely mango pudding. The restaurant is dark but not too formal, and the prices are more than reasonable for food of this calibre. I can't recommend this place enough for dinner, and the lunch buffet is so classy one almost winces at using the word 'buffet' to describe it. Go there and die in ecstasy.
The best restaurant in Albuquerque – It has it all. Parking, pleasant seating with table cloths and napkins, atmosphere, service and wonderful food. The wait staff is by far the most attentive in Albuquerque. Can't say enough about our experiences there.
a have to place – the restaurant is just amazing....i dine there
every other day....just a comfy place
