BAD SERVICE – WENT THERE THIS WEEKEND, AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A NICE IDEA TO TAKE THE WHOLE FAMILY 16 PEAPLE TO THAT RESTAUANT. WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 30-45MIN TOPS WAIT TIME. THEY GAVE US A PAGER NEVER BUZZED SO WE CAME BACK AN HOUR LATER ASKING WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THAT THEY TOOK OTHER PEOPLE AHEAD OF US BECAUSE THEY HAD RESERVATIONS. IM SORRY BUT THE RESTAURANT IS TOO NICE TO NOT HAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR ALL THEIR GUEST. THERE WERE PROBABLY 6-8 FAMILIES WAITING IN LINE, SEVREAL LIKE US LEFT.. THIER LOSS WE ENDED UP LEAVING AND SPENT $300. FOR ANOTHER RESTAURANT...
overpriced for the quality – They shouldn't serve food just atmosphere! The last time I went, the curb at valet is not clearly marked and I fell. Since I have cancer it would've been very easy for me to have sued them but I'm just not that type of person! However, the valet saw me fall but just stood there as my 78 yr old frail mother helped me up! I wanted to leave but my son (who was in town for my appt at md anderson) really wanted to go!
Horrible Thanksgiving Buffet-Beware 20% Surcharge!!!!! – I must say the Aquarium is beautiful. It was a glorious setting for a nice Thanksgiving dinner. However, my husband and I were extremely disappointed in the food and service. The turkey was overcooked, there was no bread spread (only two choices for breads: croissants or dark bread), the dessert table was meager and depleted (no choco-strawberries), the girl carving the prime rib looked to have never carved before in her life and she butchered the meat and, last but not least, we were told the Bellinis were part of the deal then got the surprise of our life when we received a bill for them!!!! Additionally, our server hovered over us and was a constant commercial. We don't have children and I was not interested in the kids' events/brochure. He also wanted to give us an up close and personal lecture on the different fish in the aquarium. Since the Thanksgiving Day buffet is "serve yourself" except for beverages, the server was obtrusive.
Additionally when I made our reservations, I was not told of the 20% surcharge. Sorry to say but the Aquarium Downtown's Thanksgiving Day buffet left a bad taste in our mouths, literally and figuratively. It's back to the Omni for us.
I wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. When I complained online, I was told they were not the right people to whom to complain and I never heard a peep from their management. Caveat emptor!
Waste of Money – After wasting $20 on tickets and $6 to park, me and my boyfriend were looking for a good meal. When the hostess came to seat us, she first sat us next to a large birthday party. Honestly, who would want to sit RIGHT next to one? So, we moved and 10 minutes later our waiter appeared. The service was slow and it took way too long for the appetizers, which appeared right before we got our meal.
Ah, the menu. Everything is $15+, which was more of a waste of money. But I hate seafood and didn't feel like spending a lot of money, so all I got was chicken tenders and fries, which are $6 on the kids menu. The waiter explained that he would have to give me the "adult" size order, which I thought would be fine. However, when we got our bill, it was nearly $50 for just a burger and chicken tenders. The chicken tenders were rung up as "fish and chips", which would clearly be more expensive, but we were charge the $18 anyway. Yes, $18 for CHICKEN TENDERS. The server explained that he was "told" to ring them up under "fish and chips" and that we had to pay that price. Seriously. Don't go here. The food was less than mediocre, they interrupt your conversation every 5 minutes to refill your slightly less than full beverage and they just rip you off with everything.
Do Not Recommend – The service was very slow. It took us two hours to get our food. I have to use a walker that has wheels and wanted to keep it with me. Our waiter said it would be safe with the baby strollers. Someone took it so now I am without a way to get around. I will never go back to that place and would advise anyone with a walker - do not put it in with the strollers. They need to have a "hat check" facility.
Very disappointing – From what I had heard about this restaurant, I expected really good food and really good service. I was disappointed to have gotten neither. The food was mostly all fried and very bland. I expected good seafood, this was cheap, not fresh, seafood that was fried in way too much bland batter. As for the service, I would say that it was apathetic at best. One of the workers outside when we were trying to find the proper entrance was downright rude, and $6 for self-parking for the time it takes to eat a meal seems very high to me. The only thing that was good were the oysters. Those were fresh and very tasty. The aquariums inside do make a nice ambience, however, they are a dramatic let down from the pictures that are on their website. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Enjoy good food while watching underwater fish display. – Hey folks. You gotta go eat here. You will enjoy the food and the underwater decor. Don't let the bad reviews stop you from coming to this restaurant. It is one place you will want to come back to again and again. Food and service were everything you would want from a good restaurant. Great seafood. Excellant pasta. Delicious desserts. Good everything. Convenient location. Decent prices. Great family dining place with lots of good Kodak moment opportunities. Hope to see you there next time I go back!
Excellant Food, Great Service, Awesome Fish Display, Best Waitress, Polite Staff. Don't Miss Going Here!!!! – Wow! What an awesome dining experience for our big group of 20 from San Antonio, Texas! We had never been to this restaurant before, so our party made reservations for this past Saturday lunchtime. Due to unexpected Houston street closures, we were 30+ minutes late for our reserved time, but the polite staff sat us right away upon our arrival! We told the waitress "Cammie" that we needed to be at a volleyball tournament in 1 1/2 hours. So, she took our drink orders right away...and she went to get our drinks while we looked over the fabulous menu. She brought our drinks and quickly took our food orders so that she could get the order turned in immediately. The live fish display was wonderful and made our experience so memorable. Our food arrived in only a short time, and we were amazed at the amount of food on our plates. Everyone had plenty of food, and it was all delicious and cooked to perfection. We had a variety of foods off of the menu and no one had any complaints about their food or service. Cammie kept our drinks filled and was very attentive to our every need with a cheerful smile on her face. Knowing we were in a hurry to get to a volleyball tournament, she asked for our dessert orders early, so that she could bring desserts quickly, too. Since one guest brought birthday cake, we were allowed to sing Happy Birthday as the waitress cut the cake and served each piece to the guests at our table. The whole restaurant was decorated beautifully. Prices seemed a little high, but we felt the whole experience was worth it. We will go there again and would highly recommend it to anyone. Children will love it. Great place for a birthday party! Parking cost only $6 and was easy. Be sure not to miss eating at this restaurant if you are visiting Houston. While food is being cooked, walk around the whole fish aquarium and view all the fascinating fish as they swim around you! You will love eating here! We did! THANKS for a GREAT EXPERIENCE CAMMIE !
Wonderful food and atmosphere; slow service & surly wait personnel – Eight of us (adults) went on a Sunday evening just before Thanksgiving. We were seated immediately right next to the awesome ceiling-to-floor glass aquarium, which entertained us all during the meal. There were a variety of patrons; young couples with children, college student types, middle-aged and retired couples, dating couples, and conventioneers. The drinks from the bar were creative and delicious! Each of us had a different dish ranging from fried seafood to an entree salad to grilled fish and everyone raved about their food (huge portions, too!). I would agree with several reviewers that the service was slow, and the waitpersons were surly at best. I will say that the orders came out of the kitchen as ordered. I don't feel that our group was particularly demanding of the wait staff. If we weren't having such a good time, we might have minded the long wait and poor service. We took a shuttle from the hotel, so didn't have to deal with some of the parking issues mentioned in other reviews, but I did notice street parking was nonexistent. You will have to ignore the noisy, out-of-control children running through the restaurant shrieking while looking at the fish in the tank. I will definitely return next time I visit Houston~
not so good – This place is not all that. Its really expensive to start off with and the food is horrible. To think the Mayor said that this would be the restaurant that brought back downtown. The only thing it did was made the city break all the rules like: allowing tigers in a place other than the zoo, making people to pay to park under the freeway when that is really city property and its going to a private business. Dont waste your time, go eat at Red Lobster then take your kids thru the aquarium isle at petco and you will get the same experince but for half the price.
