A chic salon in a rustic space. Great for both cut and color.
You can't get to Red 7 until you find the entrance and walk up about 67 stairs. But once you arrive, you're in hipster heaven. It's not your typical "salon" - it's cooler. In fact, the stylists' assistants offer you a hand massage while getting your cut/color done. They literally paint lotion onto your hands and rub, rub, rub away. For the best cut, definitely ask for Taylor.
great atmosphere and cuts - but not color – have been going to cristal (crystal?) for a while, and she is a genius - and adorable to boot. i highly, highly, recommend her for long or short cuts. however, whatever you do don't book with corrinne for color (though she is very nice!). i showed her a picture and explained exactly what i wanted, but she gave me something totally different. everyone said it didn't look bad, and maybe it didn't - but the point is that it was nothing like what i asked for! perhaps there are other good colorists there, so don't rule it out necessarily for color.
Meryl was exactly what I needed! – Being new to chicago, I found this salon online and made my appointment wth Meryl. I was a little hesitant trusting my hair to a stranger, but she was so warm and a great listener (and great sense of style). very thorough consultation put my mind at ease just in time for my shampoo and head massage. THe whole time i was surrounded with genuine conversation, kind people, relaxation- and a killer haircut that i get compliments on everyday. ive been reccommending this place to all my friends. definitely exceeded all my expectations. plus, they have wine! gotta see for yourself.
Thought my stylist was too cute – My haircut is beside the point. Yes, I was impressed that she dissected all that I was saying and understood it. But that's not my point! My stylist was Cristal and she is too cute. I really thought that she was adorable. I loved her. This was my first time from her and I will go back for sure. I also got my dye job done by Jen. Jen has been doing mycolor for years and is always dead on. Thanks girls.
so excited to have my wedding here – I just had a practice session for my wedding today and it went great. We all (my best friend, my neighbor, and I) were very pleased. That's what I need on my big day - coming up the end of June.
hooked myself up with some hollywood highlights today – I was SUPER lazy in not bookign with my regular color guy, Timmy. So, of course, I got screwed out of my normal 7 week time slot. I tried Red 7 as an alternative since it was a rec'd by a co-worker. I went in and got a full highlight and was SUPER happy with it. I have to say, I'm looking hot. Even one of my roommates commented that I looked like a hollywood star.
mom and pop salon that's upscale too – This salon is "approachable". A kind of mom and pop salon that is upscale and decent too. I LOVE going there to buy their candles they sell. They carrry the Illume candles. They turned me on to them and I always buy at least 12 when I go get my hair donne. Just this last time my regular colorist, Jamie, was booked so I went to Anne. She did a great job and I wasn't even nervous. I've rec'd this salon a lot and have gotten half off services 3 times because of all the friends, family, co-workers, neighbors, and strangers I've sent htere. They have a system that keeps track of this.
I felt like a superstar – My friends always tease me on how I'm so nice all the time. I've had a lot of salon experiences that could have gone much better, we'll just say that. This past week, 2 of my girlfriends and I went to Red 7 Salon downtown to have a quick beauty day before going out to lunch. We had a great time. I had a wonderful blowdry and style with Cristal. My one girlfriend got her color done with Ann and the other girlfriend got a cut makeover with Jackie. Everyone was very nice and we all felt like superstars because they were so accomodating. They even found us a great place to eat lunch and made the reservation. I was surprised. There is no need to pretend here - I'm being nice because they deserve it.
girlfriend and mom were very happy – took my girlfriend and mom here as a valentines present. they were very happy and showed me love as a result.
These reviews are completely UNREAL – I'm so sick and tired of reading these dumb reviews that people write who either are not clients of a place or have not gone for a long time to really get the flavor of what a place is about. How do they really know what a business is like unless this happens. I had mixed reviews of many different restaurants/clubs/spas etc...before I fell in love with them. Red 7 was kind of the exception (liked them lots from start), but there were moments. Yes, I have had some disappointments there - thought was booked for a cut with my color, but wasn't. Really needing a manicure, but they still haven't hired a nail tech. Both of these things are completely reasonable - the cut mistake was probably my fault since my schedule is so tight. The manicure they are waiting to hire someone top notch - I understand. Overall, Red 7 is really great.
Anways..I was in Red 7 today and had my color with Ivy and my cut with Dave). I have had these two peolpe do my hair (well, once I was trying to save money - so, I had Laura cut it, but still a very nice service). I was talking about the salon and Ivy mentioned a really bad review that was written about her. This makes me so mad. Ivy is a wonderful person and is very talented as a colorist. I have had her as a colorist since I've been going to this place (about 6 months or so) and I've changed my color many times and I'm not easy and she's done great. The tone is always true and lasts. I've been t omany TOP colorists who did not match up.
Worst Hair color experience of my life – I made an appointment with Ivy, whom I was told over the phone was an" expert colorist."
When I got to the salon, Ivy spent 10 mins consulting me about my hair. I wanted the bottom portion of my hair to be lightened a bit (to a medium/dark blonde) and very fine light blonde highlight throughout the top. I was going for a natural blonde look, just a shade or two lighter than what I had. I told her my most important part was my hair line, as I wear my hair back often. She said it would be no problem.
During my highlight process, Ivy began to paint the hair color from the bottom of my hair throughout the sections between the foils. I thought this was a bit odd since it would be a different color than the highlights, but I figured she knew what she was doing. After my hair was washed, Ivy warned me that it might not be what we discussed. She then tried three toners on my hair to tone the yellowness down. It didn't work. After about 4.5 hours in the salon she said I would have to come back in to get it fixed. I paid $160 plus tip and was sent on my way. When I got home I really realized how bad it was--I had a bright orangish yellow mohawk down the part of my hair and my enitre hairline was yellow too. I came back into the salon the next morning and Ivy said that by applying "slices" of highlights throughout it would fix the problem. After two more hours, the problem still wasn't fixed. She tried to style my hair to make it look less noticeable, but it was still quite obvious that my hair was a completely different color through the crown (orange/yellow) than anywhere else. I went home again and started freaking out. I immediately found a color correction specialist and ended up at another salon. The stylist spent another two hours trying to undo Ivy?s damage and while it looks better, it's still 10 x's worse then when I began the entire hair color process. I spent $130 at this salon, trying to fix my Red 7 mistake.
