Fit for BAIT and SWITCH – What a waste of time and energy. My husband and I got caught up in this bait and switch. We received a "Grand Prize winner" mailing for 6 free months, 2 hours each of personal training, and 10 free passes for friends. We went to the gym in our gear ready to claim our prize and work out. After our gym tour we were told we would have to sign up for 12 or 18 months in order to gain our grand prize. We would need to pay $75 or $49 a month each (month-to-month or for 12 months), plus and upfront $149 each for joining. When we declined, we were offered a 3-day free trial (also super generous, given we can get a 7-day free trial just by visiting their website). Be clear, we expected some catch (we are not that naive), but just not such a jarring expense, given there was no asterisks or fine print on the mailer. So "Grand Prize Winners" out there, do the math and be prepared to pay $1000 - $1500 for your "grand" prize (or more - our offer was lower because we are a couple - what a deal!). Or, do like we are doing by reporting Sweat Fitness to the Better Business Bureau www.easternpa.bbb (dot) org and the Pennsylvania State Attorney General for Consumer Protection services (www.attorneygeneral.gov/complaints.aspx?id=451). At least you'll feel like a real winner for helping others.

Don't sign up! – My partner and I joined this gym sometime last fall in order to get in shape over the winter. There was nothing special about the gym but it worked for what we needed it for, to use the treadmills, ellipticals, etc.

The problem occurred when I tried to quit! When I called the person informed me that I had signed a contract and that i would be required to pay for two more months. When we signed up the only thing we signed was what we thought was the credit card signature. I never signed anything at all! And NO ONE told us we were committing to anything other than paying a month to month fee of 65$

do not join!!! – I was a member for years, and even got my husband to join. I paid $60 a month and he paid $75 per month (there's no good reason why people get charged different amounts) We finally had to quit because we were moving to a neighborhood that didn't have a sweat, and I approached a sweat representative to discuss quitting. Of course they want you stay, and don't mention anything about being charged for two more months AFTER you quit. So we stayed on thinking we'd try to make the commute. After we realized we couldn't do it, we finally quit and joined a local gym (110 over 70) which is awesome and only $37 per month!!! Needless to say, Sweat is screwing us and continuing to charge my husband the $75 per month even after I've made several phone calls to complain (and no one has ever returned a phone call). There are better gyms in the city...don't give your money to these corporate scammers.

Best gym ever – I've been a sweat member for 6 years. I go to the 24th street, center city and queen village locations and workout 5-6 times per week. I take a variety of classes, use the cardio equipment and lift. I've used two of their trainers as well. On average, I'd say I spend at least 12 hours a week at the gym, so I think I might have a more informed opinion than some of the others out there.

I don't understand where the few negative reviews on City Search are coming from - they're totally ridiculous. I'm a petite, unassuming looking woman and I feel very comfortable working out at Sweat. It isn't a pick-up scene like Ballys -it's actually not a *scene* at all. People are really there to exercise. Folks using the gym are curteous and friendly. There are quite a few people who've been going to the same classes I attend for years - they're always chatty and nice. It's never so crowded that you can't get on a machine or can't get into a class. The front desk staff always greet me with a friendly hello. If I'mever lingering at the desk reading a schedule or something they are curteous and ask if I need help with anything. I've never gotten even the slightest bit of 'attitude' from any of the staff! They're always terrific.

They usually play good music (which I don't think is too loud - it's a gym - it's not like you can hear the music over your ipod). The equipment is in good condition, they keep it VERY clean, the cardio equipment is all hooked up with individual tv monitors, etc. Pete is an incredible kick-boxing instructor and Megan is one of the best yoga teachers I've ever had.

I've was a member of 12th Street and LA Fitness in the past. LA Fitness, as expected, was not a good experience. 12th Street is a great gym, though a bit of a scene. I like the variety of locations and classes I get at Sweat better though.

Give Sweat a try. It really is an amazing gym.

Nice facility, bad attitude........ – I use to work out at the PSC before I moved over to Sweat. Nice facility but what I've noticed (and not just this location because I would train at other locations as well) is that the staff is so arogant. I'm not there to chat or socialize with these guys (mostly guys, not the gals), but they need to grow up and take some courses on professionalism, customer service and manners. Really impersonal trainers, and then when you ask for a hand in the gym, it was like pulling teeth and you felt awkward asking. Hopefully things have changed since then, but I left Sweat and am much happier at a smaller gym in Old City.

Double expresso, then 5mile run – Been coming to this Sweat since they opened a while back. To be honest, I dont take the classes, nor use the salon/tanning or chiro.. but nice that they offer them. Nor do I need a trainer, so cant comment on any 'attitudes'.

However, I run often, and do abwork and lift most times. The equipment is up-to-date, locker rooms are clean, and music is decent. I've not had to wait more than a minute for any treadmill, and everythign is clean and in good order (ab equipment, machines, etc). Wish they had more channels on the TV's (ESPN/Comcastsports) but besides that.. Sweat is good, check it out. Did I mention coffee bar?? Clutch.

The equipment and classes are traditional, but the atmosphere, attitude and interior architecture are hip and modern. – In Short
With dozens of treadmills, eliptical trainers and other cardio favorites, along with a sizable weight training area, Sweat does big business with folks looking for traditional fitness programs. Want something a little more interesting? Check out the group class schedule, which offers high-energy workouts like hip-hop cardio, ashtanga yoga and the trampoline-based urban rebounding. This is the only Sweat location to offer tanning.

Pricey attitude – This gym has amazing equipment and somewhat flexible schedules but it hires some of the most "full-of-it" attitude employees I've ever seen. The trainers are there to pose and they even have the nerve of make fun of gymgoers bodyshape within earshot. New equipment does not exclude any health center of their duty to hire professionals, specially at the prices they charge. Skip this one
