Great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner . . . – Maxwells is one of our favorite quick breakfasts or lunches - they have a great breakfast burrito, as well as a very flexible $4.05 breakfast special - 2 eggs, toast, potatoes, and bacon or sausage (I think sausage is an option). This used to be a very smoky place, we go there far more often, now that smoking is not permitted under Oregon law - we still smell good when we leave! The staff are cheerful (important - nobody wants to be served by grumps!), the food is good, the booths are comfortable, and if you wanted to watch a game, they have several sets, because they are a sports bar. This is also a popular place for small groups who like to have breakfast together, periodically.
Been there, Done that – I have been to this place a couple of times since 2005. I don't mind the blue-collar crowd. Nor do I mind gossip. After all, this place is a pub. That said, the bar staff is attractive but the crowd this place attracts is not. The dogs are genuine Chicago Vienna Beef, but they are served by a person who apparently has molasses stuck between their butt cheeks, because the service is so slow that these famous dogs arrive anything but fresh. This place needs someone to come in and give it a complete makeover...starting with the service and ending with getting the smoke out of this place. A few happy hour or draft beer specials along with the NFL Sunday Ticket would drastically add to what is a less than memorable experience.
eclectic community pub – A reasonable example of a community pub. Don't go if you can't tolerate smoke and blue collar patrons. So don't expect a lot of downtown-type folks to be present.
Food: good and diverse, but is very variable in quality, quantity, value.
Cost: food and drink have been going up rather appreciably, however. Even the low end beer is expensive (relatively speaking, of course.) -no longer an 'inexpensive' bar.
Wait staff: generally interesting and friendly; don't expect fancy service, however.
Clients: from early 20's to 70's. Eclectic. Generally like sports, NASCAR, and pool. Don't expect a bridge game. (But there are video poker games, of course.)
Wonderful restaraunt! – Maxwells is a great place. I don't know what was going on when the other reviews were written, but I have always had great service there. I am a frequent visitor. The food is excelent, great quality, and you get large portions for not very much money. The servers come to recognize regulars, and there is a very friendly atmosphere. It can be smokey, but no more then any other bar that allows smoking. If you are going to go, you should be a smoker or at least tolerant of smoking. There are plenty of restaraunts and bars for non-smokers in the area. The only time I have had a problem with my food (a new cook forgot to leave off what I asked) the waitress took it back with a smile and apologized for the error. The owners are personable and friendly and make it a point to say hello when they are in the dining area. It can be crowded sometimes, but that is to be expected with a popular restaraunt. Their dinner specials and summer bar-b-ques are wonderful. Happy hour has great food at unbelievable prices ($2.00 for potato skins!). The specialty is chicago hot dogs- real chicago hot dogs, a bonus for midwest transplants! The dogs are also all natural- I can't eat regular hot dogs due to the additives that make me ill, but at Maxwells, I can have any of the hot dogs there. Maxwells is a great, friendly place, and one of the best relaxed restaraunts in the area.
Terrible Service – Server/Bartender was rude. I told her the food was cold...she stated if you dont like it go elsewhere.
There was this older woman cracking some rude jokes too. It was real smokey and crowded too.
Food was nothing special. Would i return there again? NO WAY......
Lousy Service! – I was here on Friday night with some friends and we didnt get a good service. The bartender absolutely rude. Too crowded for a small place. Next time I will go during the week. Food is alright...nothing special.
