“It is very rare in Houston to find such a sensational place like Russian Bear where not only do you have the best music and entertainment in town all night long, but also a great waitstaff that is so gracious.”
CLOSED. saw the great reviews and went to check it out ... its now an empty building
Great Russian Food. My boyrfiend , a friend and I went to the Russian Bear last night. We have never had russian food before and wanted to try something new. 1st off when we walked in, we thought we were at a wedding reception and were about to leave till the hostes/maybe owner came and greated us. I was real close to aplologizing because I thought I interupted. The Decorations. OMG!!! Cheesy!!! They decorated the chair & table with those seat covering for wedding. They had wood panaling from like the 70's and carpeted red walls. They even had a disco ball in the middle of the room. But you know what??? It made me laugh. So it was alright. The food was GREAT!!! We had blimy which is russian pancakes with sour cream. Most of their food comes with sour cream. The blimy was good. Nothing special. Its pancakes. I had Pel'meni which is russian ravioli dumplings with SOUR CREAM. Now that was awesome. My friend had some beef stroganoff. She loved it. I got to taste it and it was good. My boyfriend had KGB which is chicken and lamb kebabs. The chicken was alright but the lamb kicked butt. So those who want to check out a new place I recommend it. Just get over the cheese factor.
Russian-Sensational!!. It is very rare in Houston to find such a sensational place like Russian Bear where not only do you have the best music and entertainment in town all night long, but also a great waitstaff that is so gracious. I loved the two Russian singers (male & female duo), and their high energy level was so contagious - even we were out on the dance floor too! The female singer dances to every song she sings and is phenomenal. This is definitely THE place to visit if you want to relax with family/friends, have a few cocktails, try Russian food, and/or dance the night away to amazing, live music. Fabulous night spot!!
A taste of Russia in the heart of Houston..
In Short
Mix Russian specialties with weekend traditional music, folk dancing and belly dancers, and it's plain to see why this strip-mall ethnic eatery attracts a crowd. Even as the popular cafe dishes out Russian champagne and caviar, the Bear's rather ornate lounge keeps the vodka and music flowing while diners join the crowd on the dance floor. A gregarious staff plies clientele with duck, borscht and other Slavic favorites from the menu.
Eat, drink, and dance all inside the restaurant. I was in Russian Bear last week. It is very interesting and unique place. I am personally tired of franchise, same thing everywhere. This is an exclusively Russian place that you will not find anywhere but in Houston TX. You can eat, drink, and dance all inside the restaurant. Yes, you need to know the right people to get extra things. It is like going to Russia but only in the US. The Bear has Belly Dancing at about 10PM. I have never had so much fun. Russian girls are so beautiful and friendly I mustve danced with 8 or 10. Last year we celebrated the same event in one of Houstons upscale restaurants (Vick and Anthony's) and it was so boring and more expansive. Go to the Bear and youll never have more fun any where else.
