Owners just don't care – Had my membership since they opened and enjoyed the gym for the first few years. Then due to school, work, and an internship, I didn't have time to go to the gym. When I went in to cancel my membership, the female manage convinced me to "suspend" it instead. All I would have to pay was the annual fee. I signed the form (was not given a copy of the single piece of paper) and the manager stated that she would see me when I was ready to come back. Sept 2010 I saw the annual fee pulled out of my account (as expected) but missed the monthly fee that followed for the next 3 months. When I finally was able to speak to the manager she stated that suspensions were only for 12 months and they would not return my money or credit my accounts for those months.
I tried to talk to the owners and was told by that female manager, that they come into the gym whenever they feel like it (no set schedule), they never return phone calls, and that they defer all business to her. Leaves me to believe the only thing Wilson Marx or Frank Smith care about as owners is their members money.
So if you are interested in the gym just for their hours, save your money and buy a treadmill. Working out late at night is just not worth the hell they put your bank account and blood pressure through.
They don’t know how to run a business geared toward customer – By far the most unprofessional place to walk into. They don’t care about the customers and charge people different amounts based on whether they like you or not. Don’t think any of the managers, Sanaz and Wilson in particular, have any experience running a business and it shows. There is a reason they have an F on the Better Business Bureau. Ask them why they don’t have their Santa Maria gym anymore....
Nothing special – I was a member of Club 24 for a while and i wasnt extremely impressed. I had too many problems with the treadmills, bikes, and step masters not working. and it is always way too hot inside. sometimes it got to the point where i was almost too uncomfortable to continue my workouts and had to leave. overall it just feels like they only want your money and dont really care about what your experience is like as a member.
equipment frequently broken. – supposed to be 1 star not 5 star
Worst gym ever! Horrible owners who lie. – I've been going to Club 24 Inc since it first opened its doors 6 to 7 years ago. I have a lot of friends that go to this gym. One day one of them that had recently joined told me he only paid 30 dollars a month. About my fourth year of being a member I had to cancel my membership because I Ruptured my Achillis Tendon and wouldn't be able to work out for at least 6 to 7 months. When I recovered I rejoined at the cost of 35 dollars a month. When I heard my friend tell me he had only been going for a month and was paying less then me I thought I would go and talk to FRANK (OWNER) He told me that he could lower my rate to 25 dollars and to go talk to (can't remember her name), but she handles all accounts and is a manager. So I went and talked to her and she said she could lower my rate to 30, but not 25 I explained that I had talked to Frank and I had been going there for 6 years. She said she would work on changing the fees and they should be fixed in the next billing cycle. 4 months later I checked my account yeah I was still being charged 35 dollars a month. I thought like most places they would value a long time costumer, but no they didn't care at all. I cancelled my membership in OCT to find out when I checked my account on NOV 3 they charged me 35 dollars and then another 30 dollars for an annual fee. I spoke to the manager again to try and get it fixed, but all she said was I'm sorry and it was in your contract. I asked if I could speak to FRANK the owner and she said she deals with all accounts and problems. What kind of business does that if a costumer has a problem and wants to speak to the owner he can't. Don't go to this gym theres a lot of small print in the contract and fees that come out of left field. Plus do you really want to go to a gym that their owners lie. Kennedy Club Fitness will charge you 30 dollars a month and has twice as much equipment. Pool spa, basketball courts etc... and they won't lie and cheat you out of your money!
You can get in, but you can never leave!!!!!! – I decided to leave Club 24 and join another gym. I called to cancel and was told that I had to come in person. I was irritated, but obliged. I came in, waited while the clerk (who's name I should have gotten) looked me up on the computer and had me sign a form to cancel. I said good day, and was off. Low and behold, months later after reviewing my credit card receipts more thouroughly, I see that I am still being charged 30 dollars per month!!!!!
I went in to inquire about this and was told that it probably wouldn't be a problem because they could see that my last visit was in October of 2007. A month has gone by and I called again today. Not only did the asst. mngr. tell me that there was no such employee, but that because they'd lost record of my cancellation, they probably wouldn't be able to do anything. I'm awaiting a response, as he's offered to look through their paperwork. I think that we all KNOW how this is going to end up. Don't we? DON'T JOIN! THEY WONT LET YOU LEAVE!!
WORST BUSINESS EVER – If you are thinking of getting a membership...don't.
MY EXPERIENCE: I graduated and left town and then called to cancel my membership. The manager told me that I could not cancel by phone, but that I could fax in my cancellation. So I did. Two months later, I was still getting direct withdrawals from my bank. So I called again. This time the manager said I could not cancel by fax, but had to come in person. I explained that I could not come in in person. That didn't matter apparently, and I was not given any explanation other than "this is our policy." But it's not a written policy (I demanded to see it). Finally, 11 months after moving, I drove 400 miles to cancel my membership.
(ALSO: Club 24 added NEW fees to my monthly payments recently without authorization in the last months of my membership AND I've learned that they arbitrarily charge different people different amounts for membership, ranging from $20-$40 a month (based on my roommates and other students' membership fees they told me about)).
