If this place wanted to suck and harder the owners would have to hire an expensive New York re-branding agency to help them figure it out. As far as I'm concerned the Frontier Room has completely nailed being the single worst establishment in Belltown.
I've foolishly parted with my money here at least a dozen times and am therefore the absolute authority on how bad The Frontier Room blows. Last Friday will be my LAST.
In as few words as possible my night went as follows:
Long line with nobody inside (standard), cover was $10 bucks for dudes but I was told if I paid $20 I could skip it - pass.
The bathroom was a Tijuana outhouse - guys were literally pissing on the floor. The service was slow and rude all night, the drinks were inconsistent and overpriced, a friend claimed to have seen a bartender attempt to pass-off well vodka as Kettle One.
People were actually smoking cigarettes inside - no joke, the place smells like crappy old BBQ so much the staff didn't notice or didn't care. The DJ played a mix of country music, out dated top-40 and of course the pièce de résistance "Closing Time" by Semisonic at 1:30 am, ohhh the irony.
The best night of my life ended when my girlfriend was GROPED BY A BOUNCER and was thrown out of the bar. Uninvited sodomy is usually the victims fault after all.
In conclusion the Frontier Room is not for because it boasts unnecessary cover charge, disgusting bathrooms, poor service, expensive drinks, failure to comply with WA State I-901 in-door smoking ban, terrible music and rape crazy bouncers.
Great BBQ at reasonable prices in a great building – The frontier room has some of the best bbq in the west. I really usually like a sweeter memphis style but it seems that they have taken some of the better parts of different styles of cooking. They serve a wide variety of southern style dishes and just this weekend we even stopped in for their new southern brunch. I would have added some additional items on the brunch menu but everything that we had was very good.
I really like the staff there because they are always really fast and very helpful. They even helped us find a cab when we had stayed a little too long....
I am not sure how it is latenight for all of the dancing and DJs but for food the frontier is one of my favorites in town.
Good for dancers, but not for posers – The headline of this review says it all-- The Frontier Room is a great place for people who are actually dancers and just want a place to get funky and know that you'll get a little sweat in the process. It's not good for those pretty boys and girls that just want to sit or stand with their drink and be eye candy.
Like just about every establishment in Belltown, this BBQ place turns into a nightclub after 8 pm. Ladies get in free, which is a wonderful deal. The DJs are very consistent in always playing a good mix of 80s, 90s and Top40. It does get very packed on the dance floor by midnight, but on the brightside you can actually go to just get your groove on without getting molested by creeper guys at this place. People will leave you alone to party, which is a nice difference from some of the bigger clubs in which you have 3 nasty, sweaty guys surrounding you as soon as you walk in the door. The drinks are very good too and I thought all of the staff members, including bartenders, that we interacted with were very friendly and attentive and very good about efficiently serving people despite the huge crowd.
The only major downsides are that one of their speakers on the dance floor majorly needs to be replaced as it started screeching once they turned the music up louder and they allow drinks on the dance floor, which makes for several spilled beverages as people get drunker and the place gets more packed.
If you actually want to go to dance and party, I would highly recommend this place. If you're snobby and want someplace that you can sit and drink and expect that your waiter will be attentive to only you, I'd suggest going down the street to someplace like Amber. However, if you're looking for all the classiness your money can buy, you probably shouldn't head to Belltown anyway and stick to Queen Anne or upper downtown.
Great food, stiff drinks – I recently went back to Frontier Room to evoke old memories of my nights of drunken mayhem from years ago. So surprised to see how nice and clean the new Frontier Room is! We weren't planning on eating, but the lingering aroma of BBQ was too taunting. The bartender suggested the Mac n Cheese and the Ranch Hand, which was kind of a sampler platter of all of their featured BBQ items. We were extremely impressed! I read other reviews from diners claiming that the meat was dry and tough, but ours was the exact opposite. The sauce was amazing, the meat succulent...totally worth the money! We stuck around for the DJ, as the bartender told us that it turned into a dance club after 10pm on the weekends. We didn't know what to expect, and didn't want to be stuck in some typical Belltown club, saturated with slimy frat boys. Fortunately, the crowd was mixed, the DJ played some cool 80's as well as top 40's, and the drinks were stiff, just as I remember. I saw the bar staff handling a lot of s*** late night, but they did so with a great balance of patience and grit. I've lived in Seattle for 15 years after moving from the East Coast, and it is sometimes excruciating to watch bartenders in this city work. There is an extreme lack of sense of urgency, as they couldn't sling a fast drink if their life depended on it. I would say the Frontier Room bar staff was some of the fastest I have seen in Seattle! We had an awesome night. It gets a little sweaty in there during club, but that was my only grievance. We will definitely be back to check out happy hour!
disgusting! don't eat here! – Bitchy bartender. Terrible food. Dirty conditions. Coked-up manager. Enough said. Do yourself a favor and don't spend your money here!
Terrible experience, awful service and no follow up from mangagement – I am a professional baretender working in a well known establishment in the city that believes in customer satisfaction and great service. A group of friends and I came upon the Frontier Room as it was the only place without a line on a Friday night and we needed to eat. We walked to a booth and sat there very patiently for about 15 minutes eventually, a server came over and was polite but was taking on entirely too much. We proceeded to the back bar after the place filled up a bit to have a cocktail. When I arrived the rail I waited there for quite a while, totally understandable the bartender was pretty busy. During my wait time, the gentleman next to me commented on what a terrible attitude the bartender had as well as her lack of efficiency. She was waiting on a group of people (about 4) and finally finished the four drinks (which she made individually) the guy asked her in a very sweet and polite manner if he could order something else. She huffed in his face literally rolled her eyes and asked, "what do you want"?. By the time she came to me I ordered, she brought it back and there was obviously some miscommunication whether I wanted to close my tab or keep it open. She walked away so I asked her for my card back and she again, rolled her eyes (literally) and started yelling at me that I said I wanted to start a tab. I asked her to retun my card. We'll just say her reaction was childish, offensive and extremely unprofessional. This experience was awful...the first time I have ever left zero tip in my life. She overcharged my credit card and I contacted the restaurant and still have received no response in 4 days. My money will never be spent here again and everyone I know will hear about this. For the record...I never complain...I would've gone on my way after that night and shared my experiences with people I knew...UNTIL SHE OVER CHARGED MY CARD. Then to hear no response back from management??? Cross marketing in restaurants is a big deal in Seattle.
Bad encounter with waitress - good follow up from owner – My husband a close friend and I meet regularly at this restaurant. At our last outing we had an unfortunate confrontation with an upset waitress who acted unprofessionally when given a deservedly so low tip.
We found out the waitress was fired immediately after we left. When we wrote about the incident to the owner, he promptly follow up with an apology, credited our account for the dinner amount and gave us a gift certificate for 4. After a miserable experience, we were impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism of the owner.
Average food, good customer service, nice ambience – The restaurant is nicely decorated and the back has a nice bar. The BBQ itself is just very avarage. I ordered the beef brisket and on the menu it stated it was slow cooked "Texas-style". Being from Texas the brisket was full of flavor but rather tough. It was far from being tender and didn't taste like it was slow cooked at all, it wasn't moist. The portion was average and came with just cole slaw. No toast, no beans, not even a variety of BBQ sauces. My friend ordered BBQ chicken and again it was just average. It came with a BBQ chicken sandwhich, cole slaw, and pickles. We order a side of fries and that was the only thing that came in a large portion. Customer service was good and attentative. The decor was nice and had a very good vibe.
I haven't eaten here.. – ..but I always stop by when I'm in town for a drink. I just love the red drink that bartender Chris makes. He's a great guy who is always full of suggestions if you're looking to try something new and you're up at the bar. I have some friends who spend time here quite a bit and they turned me on to stopping by here every now and then. It is typically very crowded, and difficult to move around in the bar area, but I'm sure that it's because they're doing something right!
mmmmm...Mac and Cheese – I didn't really go here for dinner but I did come for dessert. My friend and I had hot fudge sundaes and a hot brownie with vanilla ice cream. They were both out of control jam packed with chocolate flavor. Maybe a little too much for my chocolate palate. However, another friend of mine did get the side macaroni and cheese dish, it was absolutely delicious. I'm still planning on coming back again to get the full serving of that delicious cheesy dish!
