New BBQ Frontier – The NEW Frontier room is a great BBQ and a great bar. The food is fantastic, reasonably priced, and served up quickly. I don't know what the secret is but the flavors are delectable and even the BBQ at the table tastes special. I had the Tennessee-style pork barbecue, the flavor was smokey and rich, the pork tender. The portions for the entrees are huge - I had a friend stop by to finish it and still had leftovers for the next day's lunch! The servers are lovely and friendly. Sit at the counter in the front or in a comfy big booth in the back. Stay for a great bar scene in the back, enjoy the green glow.
Hot new Belltown spot – It takes awhile to get used to the new Frontier Room; no more trashy, in your face dive bar. The ribs and brisket are top notch lick-your-fingers good, but there's something for everyone on the menu. Great bar, good looking and friendly staff, more casual than most of the newer spots. Great new spot.
Go to KC, Cincy or NC for the Real Thing – This place has a good feel--tony rustic; urban/rural upscale with wood booths, interesting modern meets vintage decor, and honkytonk sounds playing. The back bar promises a fortuitous encounter. Unfortunately the food, though not too terribly pricey, offers neither value or a compelling reason to return. Shredded pork is superior to the beef brisket. Entrees arrive as simple ungarnished mounds of lukewarm carcass. Sauce arrives cold in a smallish paper cup. Upon requesting more sauce (and warm this time), waitress points out the plastic squeeze ketchup bottles that contain the extra sauce. Sides of baked beans and potato salad (comes with only one; extra is extra) are decent but undersized. Cornbread muffins must be ordered as a separate appetizer. They're good, but again too small. Midwestern and Southern transplants craving real BBQ in sushi-crazed Seattle will find only modest relief at this promising, but forgettable establishment.
Woa doggies! – You know, I was afraid to go into the original Frontier Room--just too similar to the ol' place growing up where rumor had it you'd have to duck while walking by due to the random throwing of knives. This newly remodeled place has a urban cowbay hip fusion which is totally fun--at least to grab a cocktail...the decor is fun yet casual with a good blend of ambiences to meet any mood...worth a drink.....or two.....
