Cozy store, Friendly staff, Delicious food! – Shaw’s cove is a little jewel tucked away on an unassuming street in New London. I only wish I'd heard about this place sooner.
The atmosphere is extremely cozy, usually bustling with a few customers, and I’m still impressed that the staff seems to know most of their customers by name. Before I’d even ordered I was already enjoying the cheerful banter, recommendations, and friendly greetings from staff and patrons alike. It’s clear there are a lot of regulars, and it’s easy to see why.
I ordered a house salad (it was huge!) that was chock-full of fresh veggies and a perfect balance of assorted deli meats and cheese. The sweet cider salad dressing was nothing short of addictive. Just a little bit went a long way, and if they sold that dressing bottled I’d buy it. The smoked chicken and corn chowder (with chunks of butternut squash) was absolutely gourmet and quite filling (just a heads up, the soup changes every day, as I found out when I returned the next day for some more chowder). I’ve since gone back and enjoyed several different dishes, one of my favorites being the Muffaletta sandwich (I lived down South for several years and was thrilled to see that they carried this New Orleans specialty) and the Torta is great too. One of these days I’m going to give in and try the chocolate filled crescent rolls. :)
A great place for a quick lunch, I definitely recommend it.
Food is edible. Service dispicable – After receiving our over-priced sandwiches ($9 for two slices of roast beef???), we sat down only to hear the owner Paty (who apparently has no clue how to spell her own name) and her daughter complaining about everything and anything under the sun. They set the tone for our miserable experience with their incessant whining. After we realized that our sandwiches were so scant of filling, we mentioned that perhaps for the price, a little more meat would be a good addition. This sent Paty and her daughter into a rage. Paty said "this is how the sandwich is made. If you don't like it, don't eat here." Unbelievable!!! This is how you treat customers?? I will never never never eat here again and will go out of my way to tell everyone I know to avoid this dump like the plague.
