All these horror stories I'm finding out about this company makes me glad I got my awnings installed in late 2005 and didn't have to play any games with these guys.My only complaint is my awnings are falling apart and I don't have anything telling me a warranty period on the things.I looked at the contract and it does not have anything on it.If anyone has a copy of a warranty please get in touch with me.But from the sounds of things they might not honor it.
TOTAL SCAM!!!! MOST UNPROFESSIONAL CO. EVER!!! – UHI was advertising @ the OC fair so I put my info to get an estimate. The owner, Dan Golka, called to set up an appointment. There was a lot of pressure to give him the check on the spot but he said all the right things and I felt pretty good about it when he left. That was the last time I felt good about it b/c he said I had 48 hours to cancel and he didn't answer the phone call to cancel. I tried so many time to reach him. Finally, my husband left a voicemail that he was going to physically go down to the business address in Tustin and call the police if he didn't call us back. The end result is that he claimed he had already started making the product by this time and he would soon deliver/install it. Well, a long story short, it was installed about 3 months later after SEVERAL no shows. Worst company ever. The install was horrible and now it is a lost cause to get that fixed.
Ripped Off By Dan Golka United Home Improvement – Dan Golka and his company United Home Improvement robbing me. Awning broke Immediately. After winning 2 Orange County court cases against Dan Golka I still have not received my money. He refused to fix my awning or provide a refund. He was rude to me and my wife and he should be avoided. Read his dozens of poor reviews.
Disgusted &Dissapointed – Dan Golka is a thief....We will be picketing his booth next year at the O.C. Fair, if he is allowed to have a booth there next year...Doesn't own the balls between his legs!!!! Not a man of integrity!!!!!liar, Thief!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could not even produce and deliver a small window covering..based on the other reviews cannot deliver on much of anything else either.What kind of company cannot even afford a receptionist to greet thier clients and effectivly communicate with their clients??One that wants to steel from thier clients
100% CROOK!!! – I would not refer this Crook to ANYONE! We saw United Home Imp cntr. booth at the OC Fair and thought what a great idea! We got our estimate and everything went bad from there.He got our check (1/2 down) and we got screwed around for months and so far still no awning. Avoid this Thief at all cost, complete LIAR. I have been ti his office and even that did not work! Look Out Dan, karma or me is gonna find your thieving ass.....
Total Ripoff Artist – The person who owns and operates United Home Improvement Centers is Dan Golka. This guy is a total con artist who will take your deposit and not do any work. If you try to contact him all you get is voicemail, though if you call in as a new potential customer from a different number that he doesn't recognize then he will answer the phone or return your call as he is always looking for a new sucker to give him a deposit.
Both he and his business have been sued MANY times in recent years and have numerous judgements against them. This can be easily verified by searching orange county california small claims cases at the following link:

In addition to ripping customers off this guy treats anyone who he works with like crap and refuses to pay his bills. He uses the same game on anyone silly enough to work with him. He will take as much as he can from you before he starts avoiding your calls and letting everything go to voicemail
Beware this guy and this business... he is only out to take your money and run!
Very bad vibe – The gentleman who came out to make a bid on our awning replacement fabric was presentable enough. He had a book of samples and a flyer of his business. He failed to produce a business card, though. He asked for 1/2 down ($600) to start the work. Could we please write a check...."nope, I said." I want to obtain competitive bids first. He became very annoyed with me. A bit hostile even. I thought if I can't get along with someone right off the bat BEFORE he starts the work, then there is no way I can deal with him after the work starts, right? I politely asked him to leave.
Message: bad vibe...which I later confirmed from various reviews on the internet. Trust your gut, people.
STAY AWAY - WORST SERVICE EVER - HUGE LIAR – Purchased a near $3000 retractable awning from United. HUGH MISTAKE. I never dealt with a company owned by such a liar. After just about 2 dozen uses the retractable arms broke.
I phoned owner Dan Golka at least a couple of times a week. Dan admitted the arms were defective from the actual manufacturer and promised to replace the arms without cost to me.
Promise after promise, lie after lie.
After more then nine months of trying to get the awning repaired I gave up to have the United awning removed and destroyed.

Failure to deliver on installation – We contracted with United Home Improvements Centers at the beginning of January for a replacement awning and a new awning.
The were suppose to have this completed Feb 10th. It is now March 30th.
They ended up with two payments (now paid in full). They don't return phone calls. One of the persons that did answer the phone was not very professional.
While there aren't many complaints on BBB, this is obviously not the first time they have done this.
Complaint filed with the CA license board today.
The worst customer service ever!!! – Took ages to finally get Dan to come out for a quote....then nothing...when i tried to call the company back no answer for three days then when i finally got through a very rude customer service person who seemed not to care about anything...Update as of Dec 18th nearly two months after they took my deposit. They arrived with the wrong awning!!!! I have cancelled the order...will not do any more business with them. I am glad my deposit was on a credit card so i have some leverage.
