Best Sushi in Nashville – Ive eaten a lot of sushi in nashville and this the best. my girlfreind and mine fav rolls are the Dr.J roll, and the Spider roll. Fresh food, great service, romantic atmosphere by far the best ive tried.
Great for what it is!! – This place is great, it served as my introduction into the sushi world. I had previously refused to go anywhere near seafood that wasn't deep fried, because it would usually trigor my gag reflex. The owners of Tenno also double as the servers which makes the experience so much more enjoyable because they have a vested interest in making sure you have a one of a kind experience. Okay so back to the food, like i said before I hated the thought of sushi before I came here, but I had one of their california rolls and I was in love. I have never read any rave reviews of this place and wouldn't have even knew it existed if not for my wife, but I will recommend this place above any other in town. It's a laid-back atmosphere and the service is perfect if you just want to stop in for a quick lunch!!
excellent sushi rolls, lacks ambiance – Tenno isn't much to look at inside or out, and it certainly isn't the most "hip" place in town to eat sushi. However, what it lacks in ambiance, it recovers with excellent food. I've never tried any of the Bento boxes, and the miso soup is nothing special, but its free. ALL of the sushi rolls I've ever had (which are many) have been great. Service can be a little slow when they are busy.
Nothing good about it – I went to Tenno because I had driven past it so many times and had read many raving reviews. I went for dinner and will never go back again. First, I had the intentions of ordering sushi for dinner, but found that at least of of their rolls contained cream cheese...I hate cream cheese in sushi and found no other rolls that I was interested in (and I eat all kinds of sushi rolls). So, I decided to order a chicken teryiaki bento box instead, even though it seemed rather pricey. I noticed that it came with tempura, salad, soup, sushi, friend rice, and teryiaki, so I justified spending a little more. The miso soup came first, and let me just say that it was probably the highlight of the meal. The salad was fine, but had the creamy carrot ginger dressing...I prefer the more solid/carrot based kind. The tempura was fine (but, how can you mess up fried veggies?!) and the sushi was fine but it was only 4 very small pieces. The rice was fried rice and tasted like it had been cooked in the microwave. It was VERY oily and chewy/crunchy...I couldn't even eat it. And worst of all was the chicken teryiaki. First of all, it was half chicken and half mushrooms...nothing else. My experience eating Japanese food is that teriyaki usually contains a mix of veggies. And, the sauce was tan and creamy...not like every other kind of teriyaki I've had where it looks basically like soy sauce. I took one bite and ate no more.
Tenno's service was not great, there was no atmosphere, and the food was terrible. Don't go unless you want to eat lots of sushi with cream cheese in it!
Excellent Sushi, Questionable Service – The quality of the sushi is excellent at Tenno. My two favorite rolls are the Tenno Special Roll 2 and the Playgirl Roll. The spicy tuna roll is SPICY, so beware! The edamame is well-cooked and well-salted. The last item of mention is the Big Daddy handroll. My friend talked me into getting it and it is amazing! I think it is the only handroll on the menu, it's pretty big stuff. If you like miso soup then you are in luck, you get free miso soup with your food. I, however, do not like it and unfortunately cannot substitute it with a salad. The service is a little weak. I went with 3 other guys and we all ordered various rolls on separate checks. The hostess/waitress/owner doesn't really know hospitality... she brought out 2 people's food while the other two were still being made. While my friend across from me and I sitting with our food in front of us waiting for the other two orders to come out, the owner comes by says "Why aren't you eating, eat now." And I told her we were waiting for the other food (as 5 minutes had elapsed to this point). She went and checked on the other food and came back to say it would take a few more minutes. The other issue we have is the price is slightly high compared to other places we've had sushi. It isn't outrageous by any means, just higher overall, so it adds up if you order a number of items. The food is definitely good enough to keep us coming back though.
Best sushi in town! – This has become my favorite place in Nashville to eat sushi. I had always enjoyed Virago's and Ken's, but now Tenno is where in-the-know Nashvillans go. The staff are always nice and it's a very friendly atmosphere. Thanks Tenno!
Greatest Sushi (especially the Playgirl roll) – I really loved this place. It was the first real sushi I had ever experienced. Now I've had much more, being from various places around Nashville and also in Australia, and I think Tenno does it differently than at least the average. Some of their specialty rolls, the Playgirl roll in particular, they use an amazing sauce over the top. Seriously, it'd make my knees weak if I wasn't typically sitting down when I eat it. They're a friendly bunch and while it is new management (and I can't compare to the old) they're doing their best. I recommend highly
Gorgeous sushi and a posh interior pull in a hip crowd. – In Short
It's what's on the inside that counts. The outside may be rough around the edges, but once inside, customers find fresh food and stylish presentation. The always-swamped sushi bar draws Nashville's hippest crowd--this is where in-the-know singles go fishing for a fresh catch. Sashimi is the benchmark of freshness. Dinner bento box combos may seem pricey, but they offer lots to try including tempura and sashimi.
New ownership – From what I understand, ownership of Tenno has changed recently. They've kept the name but the same person isn't rolling sushi anymore and the quality isn't what it used to be. If you've been there in the past you may be disappointed. I've changed my regular sushi place.
Nelson's The Best but hes not here anymore – I have been all over Nashville trying sushi anywhere but I saw this small place at West End and met the best Chef Ive ever met "NELSON". Well he have everything, the talent and the intellegence coz all his creation are so good and he will explain it to you, all that you want to know about sushi........ I strongly recommend this place!!!!
