Thai food? – I didn't like the fact that there was no Thai food. Whats up with that? The other stuff as good but their name pisses me off!

My new favorite place! – I've read some pretty crummy reviews for this restuarant and I couldn't disagree more! I just moved here this summer but overall I haven't been too impressed with the bland, over-homoginized eateries I've had the bad fortune of enduring. Thaifoon is an oasis in a desert of bad restuarants. My sister has been to Thailand and says the pad thai is the best she's found since. The beef stirfry was to die for -- chain or no chain, I don't care. The setting is relaxing, the service is polite, the food is great, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I like the Gateway and this is a great place to sit and chat over a meal with friends (and you can actually hear each other.)

I would not recommend – The restaurant is beautiful. The decoration was really beautiful. The food is not bad. Our waitress was very rude. She did not take care of the order well. She did not fill up our glasses in a timely manner. She kept hitting my mouth with her elbow when she was serving the food. She was not courteous overall. She literally jumped at the check when we were leaving the restaurant. I think the manager doesn't evaluate his/her staff well. It could be a great restaurant with good management. We may consider going there again if the staff is trained well and they are courteus to customers.

I was not impressed – Seating took 30 minutes. The staff was prompt and friendly. The coconut soup was very good. But the entrees....The orage scallops were okay. The other dish we ordered had candied nuts on top. The nuts were burnt and bitter and the chef (when told of our comments) said they were candied and supposed to taste like that?! 'The burnt flavor permated the whole dish. The staff did take it back after we explicitly asked them to and replaced it with something else. While the waitress was prompt the food was not. I don't think we will be back again.

This lively eatery across from the Delta Center presents fresh Asian-inspired fare that, despite the name, isn't strictly Thai. – The Scene
Dramatic lighting, cozy booths, bamboo plants and a waterfall create a sense of calm and help mask the bustle of this popular restaurant. Well-meaning but overzealous waiters hover, sometimes rushing the experience and interrupting the vibe.

The Food
While not traditionally Thai, dishes are appealing and include many Asian staples: chicken satay, coconut shrimp, spring rolls and dumplings. Seared ahi tuna starter is dusted with Cajun spices, and when combined with fresh ginger and soy-mustard sauce, is perfectly zingy. Salads with papaya, shrimp and wontons are large enough for two. Skip pepper steak and filet mignon and try lightly breaded scallops, stir-fried in citrus soy sauce with mild chilies, mangos and scallions. Evil Jungle Princess, a house specialty, is a bright and spicy mix of vegetables and chicken in peanuty red curry sauce. Pad thai with plump shrimp, chicken and bean sprouts is sweet and tangy.

I agree..... – ....with most of these reviews. Don't expect Thai here. There really is nothing appealing about it. It's only saving grace is it has a great location overlooking the Gateway, but most things at the Gateway are not authentic anyhow. There are a few other Thai options in SLC, try those first.

Horrendous Service – I recently visited Thaifoon on a weekday and waited over 25 minutes to receive our appetizer (edamame). I was told by the manager that they were having "problems with their kitchen". This was on a Tuesday night. This is the second terrible service experience in the last two months. Save the money, go to PF Chang's for better food and MUCH better service...

This place is a disgrace to asian food! – I have picked out this resturant because it was featured on Good Day Utah when it was about to open. They made it look so good, but it is the worst asian food I have ever had. Can they really call that stuff they make asian? We ordered the duck. It didn't even taste like duck. It tasted like steak. It's texture was like steak. If I wanted steak, I would of went to Outback! The service was not very high quality either. We were sat promptly, but then waited too long for a server to come by. The only thing high in this place was the price and the decor. This is not a place for people who truly love asian foods.

Thai food? – Went to this place it is not even Thai food. I would know since I use to live in Thailand. It is hard to find good Thai food in Utah, but if you even want to come close you would be better of eating at Thai Lemongrass, or at Thai Ruby down in Provo. Niether are exactly like the food in Bangkok, but they come fairly close to it. Especially Thai Ruby.

ALL AROUND EXCELLENT!!! – Date & time of visit: 9/12/2003 @ 9:45PM

We had the spring egg rolls for starters. They were delicious and moist and the pepper sauce they came with was a perfect compliment to the taste of the egg rolls.

My date had the beef and broccoli. The beef was high quality and the broccoli were cooked perfectly -- not mushy or overly soft. The entree had some excellent beef reduction sauce that was to die for.

I had the Evil Jungle Princess. It was unbelievable. I have never had anything like it. Generous chunks of chicken, green beans, mushrooms. Very nice! It had a spicy, curry, citrus taste.

The server was prompt and was very helpful in answering our questions. She also kept our water glasses from running empty.

The portions were generous and the prices were very very fair. The atmosphere was really great. The waterfall is super-cool.
