Wonderful food, services & prices – Went for lunch pre-theatre today and had a wonderful meal. The wild mushroom lasagna is fantastic as is the calamari appetizer. Service was excellent. We'll be going back. Love this place.

A Broadway Staple – Split the Porterhouse steak with a buddy of mine post theatre and the meal was outstanding. The atmosphere was really alive, as well. We were able to choose from one of their three floors and settled on the third floor because of the window view and good music. Plus, we got lucky because you get all the free house wine you can drink, with the porterhouse, after 8:00. Check this place out!

Are you kidding me? – At first I was wondering if I ate at the same Angus McIndoe Restaruant as these other people. Then it dawned on me. All these reviews read kind of the same..."new chef", "really cool waitstaff", "best at 8pm", "Great mushroom lasagna and steaks". I thought Citysearch was where you could get real reviews from real people, not paid Ads or reviews written by the "really cool waitstaff." I have been to this restaurant twice and both times were disappointing. I was last there a few weeks ago and did in fact go after 8pm. Our reservation was at 8:30. When we got there no one greeted us for several minutes until a man, apparently having dinner at a table, got up to approach us. He seemed bothered that we interupted his meal. We were seated by the bar. One of only 3 tables. Although the waiters seemed to outnumber the customers, we waited forever for service. We finally had to ask someone to take our order. As for the food. I had this famous Veggie lasagna and it was terrible. For one thing, it was barely warm. I should have sent it back but didn't. My fault. My friend got the burger but had to send it back twice to get the right temperature. In the end she gave up. I can tell you, I won't make the same mistake and go to this restaurant again.

Great anytime, even if it's pre-theatre! – So, this place is totally the pre/post threatre hangout of the minute, but worth it anytime. The staff are mostly actors ( so what else is new?), except they are the kind of actors that listen to cool music (more than likely, one of their ipods is playing totally great music), and don't eat/sleep/breathe theatre. Probably, they are also cool from the fact that celebrity are in there everyday, and they are no longer affected by it. I say this, because I almost always have great conversation with my waiter (-ess): Totally cool people. Of course, if it is in the middle of a rush, they wont have the time, but still make an effort. I have been working in the theatre district for four years, and find this one of the only places I can stomach-- both for food and atmosphere. Other places are either too busy with tourists, so the staff think they aren't getting a tip out of "humoring" your conversation, or are too interested in their own "day-jobbiness" to be bothered with personal attention.

Now, the food! They have had a new head chef for a year or so, and he is creating really high-class dishes, and the prices are not insane for this area. I'm finding a lot of interesting combinations, which are always good, but I most of the time go with the wild mushroom lasagne, or the burger-- Can't go wrong. The draft beers seem to always be the same, but it is a good (yet small) selection. Always a good bet, if you are going to or from the theatre, or are just in midtown.

great food, great service – Had an amazing brunch here last weekend and the waiter mentioned a house specialty offered after 8pm of a porterhouse steak for 2 which is served with unlimited house wine. We had friends visiting so decided to go back and give it a try. We had a cocktail at the bar and watched the theater crowd leave. After 8 o'clock the atmosphere of the restaurant really mellows out. We started with a couple of appetizers off their special menu - a crab meat salad with avocado and mango was very fresh and sweet, and the spinach salad with bacon, pears and pecans was a great combination. Then came the porterhouses - they were cooked to perfection and delicious. We have eaten in the best steak houses in the city, and I have to say this is one of the best steaks I have ever had. With the free wine thown in it is definately a great deal. Our friends and I had a wonderful night at Angus. The service was friendly and the food was fantastic. We will definatley go back.

New Chef is Creative and keeps me coming for more – I recently went to Angus's on a weeknight around maybe 8:30. I hadn't been there since late February or so and WOW what a difference. I loved the food before but now (and apparently the new chef David just got started a few months ago) it's extraordinary.

First of all the main menu has such a variety of food from NY strip steak to an out of this world veggie lasagne. BUT, here's the kicker. The specials!! I recently had a roasted chicken sandwhich that had a roasted yellow pepper pesto. There's so many, too many to list, unique dishes this chef has put together.

I had an appetizer, entree, and dessert for under $50!!! Show me that anywhere else in the city, especially with that food quality, for that little.

My date and I had a little corner table and it was like the place was ours. If you go to Angus's and you want a quiet meal go around 8:30 and you can chill for a couple of hours with no crowds.

Anyone who can make a delicious beet salad wins my heart.

Amazing Experience – I agree with a lot of the other reviews here. The restaurant itself was classic and lovely. On a beautiful summer evening, we sat by the open doors looking out at the theaters opposite. Our waiter was knowledgeable, helpful, and attentive. The food was awesome! We had an appetizer with lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels and oysters. The sauces served were inventive and original. Because there is (according to the waiter) a new chef, we were delighted with a huge selection of specials to choose from along with the standard dinner menu. We both chose from the specials. We were both elated with our meals and since we had to taste each other's, I can say that my tuna, along with her pasta was the real deal. Finally we shared a lemon tart with this almond butter crust that just made my night. The food was plated well and tasted even better. Good job new chef! :)

I read other posts about it being crowded, but we went on a Monday night and it wasn't busy at all! I couldn't believe it. Apparently, if you go on a Monday night or at eightish, you can avoid the crazy theater rush.

I will definitely be back!

Did these people eat the same place I did – I see all of these wonderful reviews and wonder what went wrong with mine.

Our server was friendly enough, but he never brought any bread after he offered it and I had to catch him so I could get a drink refill as it sat empty all through my meal.

The food was awful. The "shrimp dim sum" was the same cheap kind that you buy from the frozen section of your supermarket. I ordered what was the full English breakfast and for my $14 I was treated to chewy overcooked eggs, a burned portobello mushroom top, pasty potato cakes, VERY undercooked baked beans and sausage and bacon that were both cold and hard as rocks. It was a mystery how this happened as the food came quickly.

Can you say premade and barely microwaved food, folks? I think we can.

Worst. Experience. Ever.

A New York Bargin – I dont another place of this food quality and abidance in the Theatre District let alone in all of NY for the price. Food is great but you better make a reservation. I have been there many times and have never been let down. The best surprise is one night I had a craving for raw clams on the half shell. When I asked the waiter how good they could be since this was not a Fish Restaurant, he enthusiastically claimed they were great. I'm very happy I took his advice and ordered a dozen. They were the best clams on the half shell I ever had. Enjoy.

Wow! – I have been to this restaurant a total of three times and each time has been better than the last. Most recently I hosted a birthday dinner there and it was fabulous. Requested and received a round table for ten people on the mezzanine level. We received personal service from an excellent waiter and at the end of it all with appetizers, entrees, and drinks, te whole bill topped out at only 450 plus tip! Excellent restaurant! A tip for all...come in after 7:30 when the pre-theater crowd has already cleared out...then you'll really receive excellent service above and beyond the already impeccable treatment.
