ehh... – Rather typical joint and I hated the atmosphere. Food was mediocre, wouldn't go back but only because there are way better places around, not because it was particularly bad. The service is a bit slow. seemed like mostly regulars in the place.
I had thin crust pizza which would be thick crust anywhere else. From looking at the "Chicago-style" pizza, I could tell it was not the unique Chi-town double crust - just an extra thick, bready pizza, more like Sicilian style. The place was empty. The server told us the pizza would take as much as 30 minutes. She told us this 10 minutes after we ordered. The pizza took an hour. The salad was just iceberg lettuce and your average croutons - Donato's does side salad better. They got some of my party's orders wrong including mine. It was a pretty sad experience. Hopefully they will close soon. I expect they will. Fabian's had that on it's-last-legs feel to it. The Short North is better than this.
Chicago Style......NOT – I lived in Chicago for 39 of my 40 years. Fabian's is gross. How they can even call themselves "Chicago Style" is beyond me. More like thicker Dominos.
Uh Oh ... Another one soon bites the dust???? – I have been a fan of Fabians in the past, but the service and food are going downhill ... FAST.
CAUTION ..... Be advised that Fabians still publishes and advertises happy hour and daily specials, but no longer offers or honors them. As an example, the "1/2 price on Chicago Pizza Mondays" still appears on the website. But, the special has changed to something so detailed even the manager and servers couldn't explain it. The happy hour specials are greatly discontinued and the service is average on a good day. False advertising (dare I say FRAUD??) is just plain sad and, at a minimum, it is bad business. At full price, the food would be acceptable if it wasn't often overdone or cold. Likewise, the long waits would be OK if the quality made it worth the wait ... the last couple of visits have proved that it kust isn't worth it.
no bueno – This place takes an hour to get you an overpriced pizza. It is not even real Chicago style and it is impossible to get good service. Been there and won't be back.
Great pizza, great place to relax – This is some of the best pizza in Columbus, and the closet thing we have to deep dish Chicago pizza. I love this place. It has the characteristics of the Short Nort, and overall a good place to relax with a beer and feast on plenty of pizza. My wife thinks I'm crazy because I want to eat there once a week.. Try it....you'll like it.
not actually Chicago style deep dish – Just to save you the time calling or going there and finding out, if you're looking for the double-crusted deep dish pizzas like Unos, Ginos, or Giodanos you won't find it here. Their "deep dish" is a normal pizza with thick crust.
Good pizza, great prices – This is semi-traditional Chicago deep-dish pizza. I've only had authentic Chicago pizza once, and Fabian's definitely captures the spirit (and size) with their pies. The ingredients are fresh and I've never had complaints about the flavors or service. The prices and daily specials are great -- especially Monday night with 1/2 off pizzas and dirt-cheap domestics. The half off deal leaves you with a the works-style deep dish that easily feeds four at only about $10. Pretty amazing for the Short North.
