Cruise the waters of Lake Michigan, while learning about its architecture and history. – In Short
Mercury tours depart from the south bank of the Chicago River, at Michigan Avenue and Lower Wacker Drive. There are two types of cruises--the Mercury (for regular sightseeing) and the First Lady (for Chicago Architecture Foundation cruises). They traverse the lakefront and the river for either one hour, 90 minutes or two hours, leaving at different times throughout the day. Costs vary. The boats operate beginning in May. Reservations are not accepted, and tickets go on sale one hour before departure.

Wonderful scenic cruise – This is one of the best ways for a visitor to the city to get an incredible post card perspective with some very interesting history. They have various tour options depending on what you want to see and the time of year. It is interesting to go from the Chicago river into the lake via the locks and you have an option to take in the architectural tour. There is also a cruise through the shipping canals. On Wednesday & Saturday evenings in summer Chicago has a spectacular fireworks show on the waterfront and Mercury has a special cruise for taking it in. One of the unique offerings is the spooky cruise late at night. It's a cruise featuring Great Lakes mysteries and unexplained phenomenon pertaining to Lake Michigan. If you are planning a trip to Chicago take advantage of this great boat cruise. You don't need reservations. Just show up at the dockside office an hour before scheduled departure. The Wendella operates a similar cruise and is equal to Mercury lines in terms of offerings. Both depart by Michigan Av. lower Wacker dock.
