Neighborhoods: Central, Loop
Part of the mod and stylish Kimpton chain, this inn has a killer downtown location, über-friendly staff, and free wine hours in the bar.
This Loop business hotel takes its style cues from the Windy City's rich musical heritage and nearby theaters. – Just as "allegro" in music calls for a brisk tempo, the Hotel Allegro's lobby establishes an upbeat vibe for its guests. With a stimulating clash of vibrant colors and striking patterns, accented by modern and vintage-style furniture, the entryway immediately sets this hotel apart from commonplace corporate lodging. Guest rooms repeat the lobby's Chinese-red and cobalt-blue hues and feature iPod docking stations for cranking the tunes. Beds are outfitted with fluffy down comforters and a mound of lush pillows. Bathrooms are stocked with Aveda bath items. The hotel hosts complimentary coffee in the morning and wine reception in the evening. Amenities for business travelers include data ports, two-line speaker phones and free wireless Internet access.
simply alright – the rooms though cute are super small so if you have luggage you feel crowded. the bathrooms are not what i expected. the bathrooms at holiday in or howard johnson are better. however the bed had a down comforter with feather pillows which allowed me to drift into a peaceful sleep. the staff is super friendly, down to earth, and very informative! i would go back. i just know what to expect this time around.
how can you go wrong – First I have to say that I have been to better hotels, but I have also paid almost twice the amount that I paid at the Allegro. If you are looking for an affordable place to go in this city that is pretty much near most visited spots (theatre, shopping, dinning) this is a good option. I can only wonder where some of these other people stayed that was better in the downtown zone of Chicago for the same or less then what they spent
at the Allegro. Oh and did you not read it was a old building before booking? ave chicago room $190-220, without some of the little perks. The lifts must have been fixed this last weekend, they were actually fast(7/9-7-11/04)
Wonderful wireless – This place was great! I was able to go to my room and get on the wireless internet right away with out any problems, I have stayed at other places who say they have wireless, but was never able to get on. When exploring the city it is so nice to be able to do some research right then and not have to print it all out before you go. The only negative, the rooms were really small.
A perfect stay – My wife and I thorougly enjoyed the night we spent at the Allegro. We arrived early, but were checked in quickly and efficiently. We booked our room over Priceline, but were given an upgrade to a larger room without even asking! The location was great - within blocks of the theater where we saw Swan Lake and close to restaurants and shopping. Sure, the elevators were slow, but that in no way affected our stay. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat! Also, having read the comments below, I was concerned that our room would be noisy, but I didn't hear a thing all night and slept wonderfully!
Very nice! – My girlfriend and I (and another couple) stayed at the Hotel Allegro over Valentine's Day weekend. The hotel is hip/art deco/funky and a lot of fun. The wine hour was very nice, and the staff were all very friendly. The hotel is a few short blocks from the Sears tower, a few pizza joints, and the theatre district. As someone described earlier, the rooms are a little on the "smallish" side, but nice. The elevators are also a little on the slow side. Overall, small price to pay for a great value!
Mixed bag... – Cool hotel! Gorgeous lobby. VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY CONCIERGE!!! A+++ SERVICE FROM HIM. Nice front desk staff, well, nice to me, not to my partner. Front door bellhops / doormen were extremely callous and rude. Not a nice welcome even once. Only got a smile from one guy when I gave him $5.00 for bringing my luggage from front desk to front door. Not even into cab since we went to the L. I wouldn't return because of these guys. I like a smile when I return home. Room was well decorated, just a wee bit small. I think we were in handicapped room, because bathroom had bars in it...and no counter at all.
fun, convenient...and reasonably priced – i treated my best friend to a weekend in chicago for her birthday, and chose the hotel allegro because of the location and the fun atmosphere. knowing we were only going to be there overnight, the small rooms described by others on this site didn't factor in to my decision. yes, the room was small, but it was more than adequate, and we had a wonderful view. yes, we could see minor disrepair in the room--small cracks in the corners of the wall, exposed pipes in the bathroom--but THIS IS AN OLD CHICAGO BUILDING! for the price, the hotel allegro is a great deal. one thing: for a long stay, or for those trips where we might be staying at the hotel more than going out and sightseeing, i might not choose the hotel allegro...mainly because of the small rooms. for our purposes, though, it served us well.
The Hotel Allegro – I recently visited Chicago for the first time in August. My mother and I stayed at the Hotel Allegro. This hotel is beautiful and worth the money just for the location.
Within walking distance are a few stops for the free trolley system that will take you to many of the tourists stops, such as the Art Institute, Shedd Aquaruim, Adler Planetarium, Marshall Fields, and Navy Pier. Hotel Allegro is subway stops, especially one that goes to O'Hare Airport. ($1.50 train ride instead of a $30 taxi ride).
Hotel Allegro is also near many of the theaters and great resturants. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chicago.
I Feel Safe at the Allegro – With all the hooplah associated with the war in Iraq, I worry about my safety. When I arrived at the Allegro, there was a security guard at the front door monitoring the entry. This is something you don't see at the average hotel. It gets even better. I was up late working on an imporant case (I'm an attorney) and I stepped out of my room to get ice, only to notice a security guard patroling the floor. He even had this high-tech device he used to scan parts of the hallways. I slept well knowing that there are some hotels out there that take guest safety seriously. I travel 2 weeks each month and it certainly means a lot to me. The front desk was great and the hotel was lovely. Next time, I'm bringing my wife. Now I'm hooked on their chain, Kimpton Boutique Hotels.
