A fun place that makes an event out of seeing a movie. – This theatre is one of the only places to see big box movies in the city of Chicago. And as much as I like independent films, sometimes you need a good action flick. It makes seeing a movie feel like a whole experience and night-long event. Sometimes, that's worth the price.
Our movie was sold out so we grabbed a drink and played pool in the bowling alley/restaurant (awesome night-club feel). It turned into a great night out!
Multiplex and megaplex theater chain shows mainstream movies in a plush setting. – In Short
In 1920, Edward Durwood opened a single-screen picture house in Kansas City, Mo. Over the next 40 years, his company went on to pioneer the use of four- and six-screen theaters. In 1969, the company incorporated as American Multi-Cinema Inc. in honor of its signature multiplexes. Now, the company is known for theaters with 14 or more screens, as well as innovations such as armrests with built-in cup holders, stadium seating with LoveSeats, ATM-style ticketing and online ticket purchasing.
Most comfortable in the city! – Parking is expensive, but it is expensive all over this city. If you walk/take the bus, this theater is cheaper then most others in the downtown area (Loews) and has the most comfortable seats by far. Lots of space, clean bathrooms, good features, generally a behaved crowd, and you can't beat the area for restaurants or a walk by the river after your movie. It will be busy on Friday and Saturday nights, just like any other theater. I've been going here for four years, and I still love it.
Parking cost $7 dollars more then two tickets. – So lets see, price of two tickets for a 10:30 show that was to full to get into $19.00, price to pay for parking because you had to go to 11:30 show to see the movie $26.00, money that this theater or any theater in chicago will get from me again, zero. F@#$ you AMC. I will never go to this theater again.
Good place for the theater experience – I've been seeing movies at the River East for 3 years, and I've always enjoyed my experiences. From feature films to film festival, the River East if well suited for watching movies. The seating is stadium-style. The seats provide good back and bottom support (no sore muscles, which is a big, biased plus for myself =), ) the bathrooms are clean, the movies selection is more feature films, but decent, and the sound and views are very good. I've never bought concessions there, so I cannot offer an opinion. Overall, it is one of the few theaters that I would actually recommend to my friends.
This is the BEST theatre! – After going to this theatre it is hard to go anywhere else! The seats are great, big roomy, and there is tons of space to stretch out. I really love this theatre.
There are only two downsides, expensive parking ($10 when validated) and sometimes the popcorn is stale!
