Authentic Taiwanese Eats! – This small little restaurant is tucked in the center of Chinatown in downtown Boston. From the outside it doesn’t seem like much but everytime that I have gone whether it is on a weekday or weekend there is always a line to get a seat. This dumpling house serves traditional Taiwanese eats (or as close as you can get in Boston) The service is fast and even though there is a line the turn around is incredibly fast. Their crab soup dumplings and pork dumplings are a must. There are a lot of authentic Taiwanese street foods too like stinky tofu, oyster pancake with gravy and eggs, Chilled Spicy pork ears and many more. Even though their menu is long, it seems that they have perfected most of all their dishes. I’ve never had a bad experience here and this place is perfect for either dinner or for Asian “tapas” It’
DISCRIMINATIVE service – We felt very very sad being DISCRIMINATED by this restaurant. It was a humiliating experience with their poor service and immoral attitude.
Three of us went to to Gourmet Dumpling House at around 7pm this Wednesday. The place was packed as usual due to the limited space. We waited for 20 minutes before we finally got the seats. We had some appetizers, a plate of dumplings, and a few other dishes. I don't want to spend much time commending on the food, which degenerated since the last time I had lunch at the place a year ago. Rather, I want to focus on talking about the disappointment of their attitude.
They gave us a check of 54 dollars and took it back before we could pay. Later, we were given the same check with 10 dollars added for service fee, which was almost 20% calculated before tax. When we questioned them if this $10 was the tip, they told us it was a tradition of this restaurant to add amount of tips in the checks before the customers pay. Then, we asked to see the checks for other tables. First, the owner refused to show us, but he showed us some after we insisted. We found out that none of the checks were added this "service fee." We felt we were treated differently and insulted. Furthermore, the owner refused to apologize or take any responsibility. And, this obvious discrimination is unforgivable.
His attitude showed that he didn't care to lose this Chinese customer. I would never go back to this restaurant, where Chinese discriminate against Chinese people.
Editorial Review – Continuously bustling eatery with comprehensively delicious Chinese and Taiwanese dishes, including noodle soups, hot pot, roasted meats and banquet menus.
