All I know, the Stones sold me a good car. My only complaint is that it had no gas when I left the lot. My only recommendation is to have a mechanic check out the car before purchase but that's a good rule when buying a used car from anywhere.
Shannon B. was asked to contribute $75. towards the repair of her car. Most area shops would have charged $250 -$300 for the repair (ABS control module). These aspects were stated before and after the repair.
. When facing this reasonable request, she became very distraught, shouting she would get an attorney to settle the matter. After telling us how we should be conducting our business, Shannon threw the money down and stomped out the door yelling that she was going to ruin our reputation. Completely fabricated reviews have since appeared , immediately following her threat to do just that! I have to assume that's just part of her Golden Rule.
I could not have said it better than the previous reviewer, Doug and Gary were certified aholes Upon initial contact, very nice and talkative. By the end of my dealings with this duo both had displayed their true colors. The car had a major malfunction 6 days later after purchase. They immediately took responsibility and were overly accommodating, paranoid. When I retrieved the car following repair both brothers were rude, easily-angered yelling loudly at me being completely unprofessional. I was forced to pay money without proof of repair, bill, or receipt. Gary dodged all questions eventually becoming unglued and the scenario escalated with each remark. I was so stunned at their behavior I under-reacted. The gas tank was completely empty when I drove the car off of the lot twice, upon purchase and two weeks later following repairs. They do NOT care about their customers, which was obvious by the way they spoke to me and service manner. Doug point blank said they didn't want my return business. Do not give these crooks your money. Find someone more deserving who lives by the Golden Rule.
These guys are certified A-holes! I am embarrassed to even say I purchased a car from these crooks! From the start something was not right . Gary Stone was short with his words and acted annoyed that we needed his help. After a few conversations and much debate we decided to buy a Honda Civic from Stone Cars. Worst mistake of my life. The car broke down 4 days later and left me and my children stranded. When I contacted Stone Cars I had the unfortunate experience of speaking with Doug Stone, Gary's brother. He told me that the car was my problem now and as long as the car was sold "as is" there was nothing I could do about it. My husband and I went up there the next day to try to talk to Gary. Never in my life have I ever been talked to the way I was that day. When I ask Gary to take a look at the car he flew off the handle and started shouting at me that he didn't have time for me and my crap. Before I could respond Doug came out of the back and started yelling at me as well. Both stone brothers became aggressive to the point I though they were going to become physical. They told us they did not need our business and to take our car and get off their lot. I can't believe a company that has a record of selling lemons and being aggressive toward their customers is still in business. I think their behavior bothers me more than the piece of crap car I am stuck with, which by the way cost me an additional $3900 to have fixed. If you are thinking of buying from these guys RUN! RUN! RUN!
Gary and Doug Stone are CROOKS!!! – On 1-14-12 my wife and I walked in to look at a 1999 Honda Accord LX 4cyln 5 speed manual transmission with 97,620 miles for $6195 that we found on Craigslist. First of all I'm trained mechanic not the average village idiot walking in to look at a car. I brought with me a hydrualic jack, jack stands, voltmeter and cordless light that I use to inspect every car BEFORE I BUY IT. Gary Stone brought me a key for the car and said it was a 1 owner and had a timing belt done at 74,000 miles. He also informed me the car had a prior accident on rear right quarter panel and bumper. I started my visual inspection of the car. My findings were the paint on the front bumper was terribbly cracked and chipping away. An electrical problem with the electric door locks not working all the time. Both vanity mirror lights and the passenger reading lights did not work. Low on antifreeze from a pinhole leak in the radiatior. One quart low on engine oil from either a camshaft seal or crankshaft seal leaking (this requires a another timing belt job to replace the leaky seal). NADA value for the car was $6,025 with a clean history, which this car did not have. They priced this car $175 over NADA value. I wanted to test drive the car and Doug Stone said he had to ride with us. REALLY!?!? These guys think they sell brand new cars, it's a 13 year old car and I drove onto their car lot with a 2007. I made a resonable offer of $5,500 at the car with me fixing what was wrong with it. Gary scoffed and replied "nah I'll just keep the car". The lowest I'll go is $5,900! For a normal person to pay a shop to fix what was wrong with the car would be at least $1200. Gary and Doug Stone were trying to rip us off! No Thank You, we left and took our business elsewhere. Tax refund season is just around the corner and some unknowing individual will pay way more than what that car is worth! Before you buy any car from anywhere get a trusted mechanic to inspect it. I feel sorry for the other reviewer who bought the Volvo. Stay away for Gary and Doug Stone at their nice looking USED car lot Stone Cars!
My Recent Experience – I recently bought a BMW 325i from the Stone brothers. They were courteous, knowledgable, and efficient. The transaction was completely satisfactory. The car is excellent-they know how to pick them.
Doug referred me to ZMech in Raleigh. Everything you want in a mechanic. I'm now a satisfied customer of Doug and Gary Stone and Zoltan of ZMech.
Highly recommend this very fair and trustworthy dealership – In August of 2007, we bought our second car from the Stone brothers. This time a 1999 BMW 528i with 78K miles. It took some extra time to finish the purchase because there was an odd sound coming from somewhere under the hood. As Doug Stone put it, they prefer that there be NO known prblems at all when a car leaves their lot. It took two mechanics, but they stuck with it and the problem was fixed.
I couldn't be happier with the service I have received from Stone Cars. They have, once again, been upfront, honest and very fair with their price.
As my children need cars, I know who will sell them to us...
Awful experience. Don't buy your car here. – I purchased a used Volvo on 12-10-2005. Twenty One miles (25 mintues later) after driving off the lot. The engine shut off while I was driving down the road and will require heft repairs. Luckily I had just exited off I-40. Doug Stone told me there was nothing he could do to help. The dealership should have some accountability here and I am still working on that part. I will make sure that not a single one of my contacts in the area EVER buy a car here. Don't waste your time. Go somewhere else.
