fantastic food – While checking out the new Elliott Bay Book store on capital hill I wandered into the new location of Elliott Bay Cafe. Although the menu is more limited than the Elliott Bay Cafe in pioneer square, I still had a hard time deciding what to eat because everything looked so good. I settled on the Cuban Pork Sandwich, which was plentiful in size... and had to have a truffled deviled duck egg as well. Both were fantastic. The sandwich had perfect crusty bread with juicy house braised pork... it was over the top good! I love deviled eggs... this happend to be the best deviled egg I have had the pleasure to eat. I could eat an entire plate of these duck eggs. The coffee was very good also (coming from a coffee snob). It's great to have another location besides pioneer square :-)

Daily specials make this Pioneer Square cafe shine – While the Elliott Bay Book Company has decamped for Capitol Hill, the cafe is still going strong, and if you haven't revisited the EBC since their dramatic renovation and re-opening in late 2008, you're missing out on a downtown gem. Light-colored walls have replaced the old gloomy scene, while an ample mix of booths and communal tables offer seating for everyone from the solo diner to the book club. Their standard menu of sandwiches, salads and breakfast items is always a good bet - especially the flavor-packed Argentinian steak salad - but you can't go wrong ordering off the blackboard of half a dozen daily specials. EBC walks the local and organic talk - they're a pickup point for CSA baskets and their specials always showcase what's in season. You can also check out their Twitter and Facebook feeds for a tease of the menu.

Leaves you hungry – After reading an article about the newly remodeled EBC, I was really looking forward to giving it a second shot. I work in Pioneer Sq and though there are several places to eat, after a while it's nice to try something new. Cosmetically the place looks much better, cleaner & brighter. However after getting lunch "to-go" from there I have to say how disappointed I was. I ordered the 1/2 sandwich & specialty salad combo. The half sandwich was grilled cheese and the salad, spinach. Now I understand that the portions are going to be half, but for $8.75 I was expecting a little more than a two-bite snack of each. According to the menu, the sandwich was supposed to have five ingrediants, many I never saw, the cheddar, fontina & tomato jam were totally MIA. Also the slice of rosemary semolina bread they used was...shall we say...petite. The spinach salad was served in a small soup cup and was about half full. After I recieved my skimpy lunch I tried to wait to speak to someone, but after waiting a couple of minutes with no acknowledgement of my presence I simply left. Maybe I will work up the nerve to try one of their breakfast items someday, but for now, I'm feeling a little burned, like the chocolate chop cookie that I got and still "hungry".

Not just books – Feed your mind, feed your body at this cafe located downstairs at the Elliott Bay Book Co. A bit of history as well as you can see the built up street from after the Great Seattle Fire of the 1880's. Great desserts and hot & cold beverages. Good sandwiches & salads. A meal or a snack, before or after games or if you're just sightseeing in the Pioneer Square District.

A cavernous-yet-cozy cafe below Seattle's favorite bookstore provides a safe haven for bibliophiles. – In Short
Located underneath Elliott Bay Books in the cave-like space of what was once the Pioneer Square Underground, this hip cafe welcomes Seattle's literary population with open arms. Caffeinated options include espresso and a serious selection of teas, including yerba mate and Morning Glory chai. Breakfast and lunch choices include granola with milk, bagels with cream cheese, a daily soup special, assorted sandwiches and a large case stocked with vegan and non-vegan baked goods.
