I think this is a wonderful Deli, the soup and sandwiches are awesome and the owner has always been super sweet to me when I come.
Avoid! – Do not eat here. I was there when delivery person returned and started prepping food with no gloves and without washing hands, same for person taking orders and collecting money. They keep the phone they take orders on on the meat scale and then put meat on the scale. No proper food prep table just a counter and everything is sliced on same slicer. Delivery person, while prepping lettuce, used both hands to wipe snot from his nose...did I mention no gloves. No hats, no hair nets and no concept of how to properly serve food.
Great sandwiches! – I have also been eating there for almost a year now, and also don't understand all of the negative remarks. The food is great, the atmosphere is very friendly, albeit its not a "fashionable' place, but its homey. If your in a rush, they take phone orders for pick up, Ive never used their delivery, but its also available. My favorite is by far the Wall street, and with 3 different breads I can change my sandwich up a little, without "changing it."
I have also noticed the new employees, as Mike and Paul were familiar faces. But I have not really had any problems. Though the new guy is very talkative, almost to the point of annoying.
If you want a great sandwich or sub try it out, before writing a nasty review. There are free coupon books in the gas stations that make it a great deal.
By far the best in the area! – Me and my girl order from here atleast once a week and my coworkers order all the time. The negative reviews that are on here are bullshit and I can't believe they ever ate there. We have been eating Big Steins since '06 and continue to eat there. The only negative experience we ever had was with some of the newer employees that we have never seen before and they seem kinda lazy and not worthy of working there. Otherwise we will continue to eat there! I have tried ever sandwich on the menu and every one has been delicious!
Buyer Beware! – Went to Big Steins to get what someone described as an "awesome" Ruben. I got the sandwich to go. Be forewarned - if they make the sandwich out of sight, and bring it to you already in the styrofoam container and plastic bag, DO NOT PAY FOR IT BEFORE LOOKING AT IT!! I made that mistake and waited until I got home to open it up. First, most of the corned beef was so dry it looked like beef jerky. Then, when I removed the dried-out meat, I noticed there was no sign of swiss cheese or thousand island dressing. For this I paid over $6.00??!!! I was hungry and ate it anyway, and sincerely regret it. I had digestive "issues" the rest of the day. I would have been much happier if I had driven another few blocks to Taco Bell and spent half as much on my lunch. NEVER, NEVER, EVER will I go to Big Steins again!! I don't even want to give it 1 star!
Its good to be full – My coworkers in the office have been talking about this place for awhile now but i just hadn't gone yet. BIG MISTAKE!!! I can't believe i ever wasted my time at subway. Awesome Rueben and the Big Beast is crazy good.
No better sandwich in town!!! – Big Stein's deli is my favorite lunch/sandwich shop. I challenge anyone to find a bigger sandwich with more delicious meat. My favorite is the Park Avenue. YUM!!! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone with a healthy desire to fill up on great food. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!
Owner is a Disgusting Rapist-Type Pig Who Plays With His Own Meat – Being that I live and work very close to Big Stein's I have alway heard rumors regarding their horrible lack of customer service and respect. Therefore, while I know better than to eat there, I was recently forced to encounter the owner of this establishment and let me tell you...I would now rather dine on leftover scraps from a desperate dirt-eating Haitian before trying the "meat" that Big Stein's has to offer.
First of all let me say that the name "Big" Steins must stem from a serious Napoleon complex because the only thing BIG about this guy is his macho ism (which undoubtedly stems from a serious lack of manhood). When I say that I "encountered" him, I mean he attempted to rip my clothes off in a crowded bar with my husband standing 15 feet away. We were attending a James Bond party at a small pub downtown St. Pete and everyone came as various Bond characters with myself as Honey Rider (at the request of the girl who was throwing the party). Apparently, the concept of a costume party was too much for the small dark haired idiot owner of "Big Steins" to comprehend as he and a bunch of his friends entered the party (uninvited) and crept behind me while I tried to pay my tab. He unclasped the back of my top and when I turned around to confront him he grabbed me by the shoulder and tried to violently tear off the only thing keeping me from being completely exposed. Somehow I managed to wrestle myself free I ran to my husband and believe it or not, as I stood there in tears, telling him what happened one of Big Stein's (much bigger) buddies tried to lift up the back of my dress with his foot. Of course, this resulted in a bar brawl that ended with my husband on the ground being kicked repeatedly. Once everyone was brought outside, "Big Stein" stood in the middle of his buddies laughing and saying that of course he tried to strip me because -ready for this?- I DESERVED it for being too revealing.
Big Stein's Deli is clearly full of Pig.
Stick to the sandwiches I guess?! – I tried "The Salad Salad" with chicken salad and balsamic vinagrette dressing - and I asked for no olives. Funny thing is, they added pasta salad on top which had OLIVES in it. And I swear the dressing had olives in it too. The chicken salad was very salty, very bad. The only positive was the romaine lettuce was nice and green - but inedible once I put the dressing on it. One more note, the pepsi fountain sode was all air, and when I brought it to their attention the guy behind the counter acted annoyed that I told them about it.
Great Sandwiches – The triple decker sandwiches are the best. There is a small area for eating in but take it home - you won't be able to finish the whole sandwich any ways.
