Some of the best Italian in Chicago – New to Chicago and was looking for good Italian (which I hear isnt hard to find here) and a friend told me to check out this place. The service was quick and friendly and it wasnt too crowded or noisy. The vibe of the place was a little mom and pop but the food... was incredible. Try the Chicken Parm. Its big, no way I was going to finish all that food. But I tried. Ill definitely be coming back here!

Exceptional Food and Service – We've been visiting Trattoria for several years now when we attend the Printers Row Lit Fest and it is by far my favorite Italian eatery. The food is always wonderful and the staff is delightful. In the last four or five years, I've never had a bad experience.

We show up with anywhere from 15-20 people on a Saturday and they are always glad to see us and make us feel right at home.

And Penny is one of the best food service providers I know.

Wonderful!

I probably would not go here again. – They had a rather cheap atmosphere, but good bread. I didn't really care for any of their soups. There chicken tasted dry and cheap and kinda stringy. There alfredo sauce was unique, but I think Olive Garden's is way better. Their's was very thin. They did have excellent shrimp though and I really enjoyed my shrimp fettucine with mushrooms in garlic wine sauce (custom order). For dessert I had Tiramisu. It was ok. The cheese part was excellent, but it lacked coffee flavor and needed more gooey chocolate and less powder cocoa.

South Loopers remain faithful to this neighborhood BYOB serving Italian standards. – The Scene
While its name hints at a romantic dining spot, this trattoria is more of a place to catch up with old friends. The lighting is just a tad too bright to play up romance, but that doesn't take away from the restaurant's intimacy and charm. Thirty- and fortysomethings take their time enjoying every sip of wine at white-linen topped tables in neutral-toned, L-shaped and neighboring dining rooms, while never harried servers make it a point not to hover over tables.

The Food
The kitchen knocks out solid, old-fashioned Italian. Fluffy, battered calamari is crispy without being oily, and grilled Italian bread topped with fresh mozarella, basil and firm tomatoes makes for a winning, not soggy bruschetta. Plump shrimp, tender scallops, mussels, clams and calamari overlap every linguini ribbon in classic Zuppa De Mare, which pops with textures and flavors. Pillowy portabello ravioli are stuffed with creamy mushrooms and spinach.

Hits
Moderately priced pasta plus a generous BYOB policy won't put a strain on your budget.

Misses
The rich, but dry tiramisu falls flat.

Amazing Food, Great Service, extremely relaxing place – This restaurant is truly italian. They allow you time to truly enjoy their extraordinary food. I eat fetticini alfredo at every italian restaurant I try, and I can say with out a doubt this was the best I've ever had. This coupled with the conveniance of a BYOB policy, makes this one of the best Italian spots in Chicago.

great low key neighborhood italian – A low key comfortable setting does not require you to dress up very much. We had the grilled calamari, chicken, and seafood pastas. All excellent. The entrees come with either a soup or salad. Overall, a very nice and relaxing dinner at a reasonable price for the downtown area. We will definitely be revisiting. And we found out you can bring your own bottle of wine.
