Neighborhoods: Central, Loop
Lots of hidden fees, make sure you examine your check. Hostile atmosphere, rude and slow staff, dirty place, cranky manager. Don't bother going, waste of time and money
WARNING! THIS PLACE IS REALLY BAD – To be fair I'll list both positive and negative.
Postive: Cheap beer and great location
Negatives: Slow and inattentive staff. It took our waitress 10 minutes to take our order. I asked the waitress for suggestions and she literally rolled her eyes!! Not joking!! This place is also very unclean with a very bad stench of day old food. I saw a waitress drop accidently drop a hamburger bun on the floor, only later to pick it up and put it back on the plate. I might do this at home, but not at a bar!!!
Housing for transients and substance abusers located on second floor, so you see alot of shady characters milling around. It's a rough crowd. Some homeless guy opened the door for us and demanded a tip!! I guess he is the unofficial door man. The owner is accustomed to interacting with the transients, so he has a very hostile demeanour. He "guards" the entrance with a stupid velvet rope. He stares down the men and ogles at the women.
I love dive bars, but this place is a bit too "divey" even for me. Expect slow and poor service, intimidating bouncers, dirty environment, and a general hostile atmosphere. The beers are cheap however!! You get what you pay for.
Worst establishment in Chicago – This is absolutely the worst establishment in Chicago. I do not understand how this place stays in business! I recently spent 3 hours in this bar with some girlfriends. The service there was ridiculously bad. The waitress was high and forgot everything you ordered. I literally had to ask for popcorn 3x within a one minute timeframe. She got our drink orders wrong and then almost cried when we tried to send the drinks back because she claimed it would be taken out of her pocket. So we felt bad for her and settled for the wrong drinks. You would think she would show a little gratitude- WRONG! She ended up DOUBLING OUR BILL!! We argued with her and the stupid manager for at least an hour. BEWARE- they will try to RIP YOU OFF! To top it off, the food was disgusting and the plates were filthy. Don't ever set foot in this place!!!
Worst service ever- Avoid this place! – I wish I had read some other reviews before going to this place! It was filthy, the food was terrible, the server could not get anything right, and we were also treated like dirt by the workers & management. I would not recommend anyone to go here ever! There are too many other restaurants/bars that serve much better food with good service nearby to be wasting your time & money at this disgusting place.
Nice neighborhood joint... – I don't know where some of the reviews come from on this site. Probably from the competition. All this talk about needing to be the right "color" to go into this bar. I walked in and there were blacks, whites, a latino working behind the bar, etc. The people were very friendly and very accommodating when I asked them to change the channel on the tv to watch a hockey game. The burger was good. Beer prices were kind of higher than I was used to, but that's the size of the city I'm sure.
Very bad experience, extremely unprofessional and rude management – This has to be in the top ten of worst bars I''ve gone to, and I've been to some bad places. First let me start off saying that the treatment you receive depends largely on your ethnic background, color, and or race. The owner is openly hostile to blacks, hispanics, and other non white groups. I've seen him berate and insult customers, including myself. I heard one of the patrons say that the owner is that way because the bar tends to get alot of foot traffic from homeless people, substance abusers, and prostitutes (SRO is located in same buildling)
Perhaps this is true, don't really know or care. This is not a license to abuse and berate your customers. It is certainly not a license to be a bigot
If you do decide to come here, just remember to order your drink, keep your mouth shut, pay immediately, and make sure you are not a minority or in the company of minorities.
Worst hospitality ever! Avoid manager Demitri. – The hospitatility at this establishment was attrocious. The gestapo tactics employed by the manager/owner Demitri in his attempt make someone of my ilk feel unwelcolme were completely unprofessional. While I waited for my take-out order, the manager/ ownerDemitri attempted to intimidate me physically and goad me into a violent confontation, because I preferred not to consume an alchoholic beverage or unhealthy soft drink at the cigarette smoke-filled bar. He tried to block my view of any TV in the bar by moving in front of me, nose-to-nose, every way I turned. In Texas, where I come from, this act is considered an affront. I waited patiently for my food, then left without satistisfying Mr. Demitri's thirst for some Black Texas Tea. But I feel I must warn anyone who is not of the "right" ethnic or geographical background, stay away from the South Loop Club! The food is bland and hospitality is vicious.
This club serves up food, drinks and sports to a South Loop neighborhood crowd. – In Short
Located on the ground floor of an SRO hotel (the 7th Street), the club spotlights sports with eight TVs and an interior decorated with team paraphernalia. Patrons can choose a seat at the bar, or at high-top tables; service is attentive and friendly. There are 12 beers on tap, including Stella and Pilsner Urquell, and a food menu features a mix of bar food and Greek diner items like gyros and Greek salad.
Great Food – The food is very good. You can even place food orders in the wee hours of the morning. Service is good and drink prices are ok. This bar is an unknown jewel.
When in town – I'm a native Chicagoan now living in LA. When back in Chicago visiting I always stop in at the SLC. To me the BEST thin crust pizza on the planet. The sauce is awesome with the right touch of oregano sprinkled on to heighten the flavor. The crust is crispy and golden brown. The brats and ribs are also very good. The beer selection is a wide variety to choose from. Atmosphere is great and friendly (sports on the TVs) and service with a smile. Prices are comparative but still a good deal.
