Got locked in! – Always looking for great new coffee houses in Houston to visit, the rooftop patio at G's & Z's Coffee Shop inticed me to give it a try.
First the good, the woman at the counter gave me what is probably the biggest single serving of carrot cake I've ever gotten for $3.25. She also made sure to put it in a to-go container, knowing I wouldn't be able to consume it all in one sitting.
Now for the mediocre, the coffee. Nothing special here and probably the only time I wasn't allowed to put my own sugar in my coffee (it's kept under guard behind the counter). The woman also heated my cup in the microwave (this should NEVER happen). A pretty good indicator the coffee wasn't all that fresh.
Now I know I shouldn't exactly fault the woman for her lacking English abilities, but our Spanglish transaction was at times a bit confusing.
And finally, for the just plain weird, I got locked in to the shop! Even thought the website advertises that the shop stays open until midnight on Saturdays, the woman decided to close it at 5pm. What's more, she didn't even wait until all of the patrons had left. I and about ten other women who were celebrating a bachelorette party on the patio were forgotten and left locked in the store. We were lucky enough to wave down the store woman who was getting into her vehicle out front. She came back to the store, unlocked it from the outside and let us out.
Needless to say, G's & Z's will be one of those one-time coffee visits. There are so many other better coffee places in Houston - ones where I don't have to worry about getting locked in the store!
Loud, pricey, subpar service....but free Wifi. – I was looking for a good place to study, particularly one with free wifi. I'd driven by this place a few times and figured it was worth checking out.
As soon as you walk in the door, you're assaulted by loud, obnoxious music. A cup of coffee (using a 16 oz mug I brought from home) was almost $3! And the salesperson spoke almost no English.
That being said, the wifi was most definitely free and fast. If you come to do work, bring some noise-canceling headphones.
Very nice, Great customer Service! – This coffee shop offers a very nice atmosphere and the added flare of great customer service just makes your experience that much more exciting. They offer free internet services on 3 computers and they are wireless if you would like to bring in your own laptop to catch up on somethings before or after a meeting. Be sure to try the cakes and frozen drinks!
I was so pleased I will be hosting a Networking Mixer at the coffee shop for my business on August 1, 2008 at 7pm. Please come out an mingle with others at my event. For more information contact me Shandenia 713-294-7331 or via email @sophisticatedevent@sbcglobalnet
The have a wonderful balcony area that would be perfect for meetings and small events.
Give G's & Z's a try.
Be sure to ask for Omar he is great!
Great Little Coffee Shop – I enjoyed this quaint, little coffee shop. It seems to be family owned and operated-which we don't get very often. I appreciate the service I received. I went there on a Saturday night to study. I am in the over 30 age group. I had some hot chocolate and a desert. Both items were, as the kids say, "off the chain", meaning both were good. The service made me smile and the use of the complimentary computers was fantastic.
I recommend this coffee shop to everyone I know.
Later that evening, to my surprise, there was poetry night at 9pm. The atmosphere was great. The atmosphere was diverse, with intelligent people with realistic ideas of our world there. Now I try to get there every Saturday night.
No smoking made it equally great. I enjoyed my night there. GO and give our small businesses a cheer for being great!
Best Coffee shop in the area – My wife and I are grad students, and are always looking for a new coffee shop to frequent. The main problem with this place is very limited hours and slow service. I've waited on a coffee for over 5 minutes (and I was the only order and it was in the morning). Sadly, at the end of the day, I'd probably prefer Starbucks. Some of their drinks can be too sweet to finish, and the pastry selection is somehow even worse than starbucks.
The Coffee is good, and the free internet is nice. I think they have poetry on monday nights, but i've never been.
Best coffee shop in houston is inversion on montrose.
GREAT customer service and delicious coffee! – My husband and I discovered this place on our morning drives into the city for work and decided to try it out for breakfast one morning. We loved it! My husband is very picky about coffee, but was so pleased with their bold, smooth brew. My latte was perfect, and the muffins were delicious. The two guys working there were extremely nice and accommodating, and the atmosphere was perfect with jazz music playing in the background, trendy lighting, and clean, cute tables. With the cool new loft condos popping up down the road, the area is getting more posh, and this coffee shop is the perfect complement! We will definitely go back!
CHICKEN SAMMITCH ! – We came by this nice little corner cafe shop while we were nearby for work on my car. All customers there had their own laptops for using the shop's wireless broadband but we used one of the 3 complimentary computers to check a few sites. Now about the SMOKED chicken sandwich on croissant....tasted GREAT. It was 4 dollars and big enough for two lite eaters, for one dollar more we could have had chips and a drink. Instead, I had an expresso con pana which was a little sweeter than i was used to, but i drink them more for the caffiene punch. My g/f had a Red Stripe beer which we found semi-unusual for a cafe but was definitely welcome. Other bottles of domestic and foreign available if that's your thing. This clean and comfortable place is a great value too, and is ready for the area around it to flourish.
Good coffee, great deserts – I first discoverd G's & Z's during some community meetings that we were attending next door in the real estate office. One of the owners had staffed the meeting room with coffee and cake from his cafe.
The first bite into the Pound Cake and I was in heaven!
I have never tasted a Pound Cake so moist and delicous in my life!
This is the standard that all others should be judged by.
Besides excellent deserts, G's & Z's offers fantastic coffee, that is fresh and strong. So many other cafe's fail to deliver a consistant cup of coffee as they are trying to maximize their profits by pushing what is best a coffee flavored milk shake.
G's & Z's gets the basics right, and improves from there.
The atmosphere is very nice, the interior spotless, and the people friendly.
