NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE – We used to love this restaurant but I believe they have had a change of ownership. Service was horrible and we actually found a hair in our food. Tried to be discreet and give them an "fyi" and the waitress actually started raising her voice saying, "your hair, not our hair". The owner came out and tried to quiet her but we were amazed at how poorly they handled the situation. Food qualify has gone down along with the service as well. We won't be going back!

Great little place with best Chinese in Vancouver – Okay, forgive me for going on a tangent here, but we've been going to Mar's for YEARS. Mar's has great food, HUGE portions, and is a great value as well as being the best quality Chinese in the immediate area. Seems like I'm reading a lot of just downright mean reviews on Citysearch lately that are simply people who like to destroy businesses' reputations to boost their own ego. Jhorner44, white rice has NO FLAVOR! That's the point. It's a blank palate for all kinds of food. And I have seen no decrease in quality or portions whatsoever. Great place...go and see for yourself and don't take such a ridiculous criticism seriously.

Used to be the Best – Since the new owners took over, the portions have gotten smaller and the food is pretty bad. Touch, small pieces of stringy chicken, tasteless rice. This used to be our favorite Chinese restaurant. Not any more. Really too bad.

Not good Chinese food – We moved to Vancouver from California last year and have yet to find a decent Chinese restaurant. Mar's was no exception. I guess we're picky but the food here was so awful that we didn't even take the leftovers home.

Here's what we ordered:

Cashew chicken (bland, not enough sauce, no flavor, an oddly gray color)

Chicken chow mein (too salty, bad flavor, chewy noodles, soggy)

Snow pea chicken (salty but more flavorful than the rest of the dishes, the snow peas were too bitter to even eat)

hot & sour soup (worst we've ever had, tasted like it had ketchup in it!)

pork fried rice (tasted like a diaper pale, virtually inedible in both flavor and texture)

The only good thing we ordered was the crab wontons, which were decent.

We spent $58 (for five people) and definitely won't be going back ever again.

Excellence in Chinese cuisine! – Our whole family has been here numerous times and never been even the least bit disatisfied! The service is great! We've never waited for more than 15 minutes for any order, it's usually about 10. The food is always fresh and the flavor has been amazing! I highly recommend the orange chicken and the sesame beef!

If you're looking for a nice, comfortable place with good service and fantastic food this is the place for you and your family!

Did not live up to expectations. Expensive for the flavor it delivers. – Mar's gets an an A for freshness of ingredients, friendly service and cleanliness but an F minus for taste.

Three items were ordered: Sizzling beef, Calamari and lemon chicken.

The sizzling beef is nothing to get excited about. It tastes like those of any regular chinese restaurant.

The calamari is chewy and very salty. Onions and other veggies, fresh though they are, did nothing to the taste except pad the calamari from the bottom so it looked like the serving was plentiful. If you like your calamari flavorful with the right crunch and generous servings, Tien Huong in Portland (Sandy Blvd) is the place to go.

The lemon chicken was bland and there was no taste of lemon except for the garnish. On a good note, It is freshly cooked and very crunchy. HoHo's in Portland would be the chinese restaurant to go when you are looking for authentic great all around chinese food taste.

The hot and sour soup was sweet, something you would not expect. Tai Pan in Vancouver beats all in that arena.

This place is also too expensive for the taste it delivers. We spent 35+ dollars for 3 dishes, 3 soups and 2 teas. Yes, they charge 25 cents to give you a tea cup. They further leave a sour taste in the mouth by charging 50 cents for every card transaction even if it was a debit card.

I had high expectations of this restaurant but it did not live up to those expectations.

If you are looking for great or even just good tasting chinese food, get ready to be disappointed. This restaurant gets 2 thumbs down.
