I have been a client of Gaven's studio for 10 years, and I love love LOVE this studio. Even though I live part time in NYC, I come will only get my hair done here. While everyone who works there is great, my personal stylist, D'Leigh, is phenomenal. Seriously, this place is amazing.
I have always loved Studio Gaven. The atmosphere was welcoming and the environment was open and pleasant. I was very much looking forward to the new location, however I was puzzled when it was opening. The sign changed from Winter to May and now June? I went for my appointment yesterday and everyone was relocated to the Studio by Studio Gaven. It was crowded and unorganized. The front desk was apologetic, however I could not get over the environment. There was little waiting room, not enough chairs for haircuts, a line for getting your hair washed, and I didn't see my Kerastase products that I love. My stylist had been saying that the opening was delayed because of construction. That was February and this is June. I know nothing about construction but something is wrong. I hope changes are made soon because it seems like they may be going out of business. The amount of money I spent does not reflect my experience. I will not return.

*Worst Management I have ever seen!* – I was referred to this salon by a family member, so thought that I would give it a try. I just got a basic haircut, which I was very happy with the results. I spoke with a stylist that seemed very intelligent and I booked my next appointment with her right away. I was very excited to finally have found a salon that I could trust. While I was speaking with the stylist, I told her my concerns that I had with my hair, and she proceeded to point me in the direction of some great hair products that she recommended. I was willing to give it a try, and I confirmed with her that I would be able to return the products if for some reason I didn’t like them.
I could tell immediately after using the product the first time that it wasn’t going to be a good fit for me, it was rather pricey with disappointing results. I returned the products the same week that I bought them, not fearing that this would be an issue as my stylist assured me this would be no problem at all.
The manager was called over to approve this refund. He told me no returns, and I told him that my stylist told me differently. He didn’t care and told me again that there wasn’t any returns. I asked him if we could go confirm this with my stylist that was working that night who had told me differently… He became very irritated, and began raising his voice and said that I wasn’t allowed to buy or return anything there ever again and that he would note my account saying so. For some reason, he had problems figuring out how much to refund me, as I paid 2 separate ways. Once I showed him, and he figured out that he was in fact incorrect with his math, he blew up! He began to call me names (in front of several customers and employees) which was absolutely uncalled for and inappropriate. I was in absolute shock that I was being treated and spoken to in this manner. I asked him to stop speaking to me in this way and asked if this is how he conducts business, and he then threatened “Do you want me to return it or not”. He was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional. He has no business working with the public and is the poorest example of a manager I have ever seen!
Needless to say, I will never return to this place and I have made every attempt to tell the people I know what awful experience and customer service I had. The stylists there seem very talented, but sadly I will never truly know. I hate when you spend so much money somewhere and then be treated so poorly.
Wonderful Salon and fantastic manager!!! – I just can't say enough great things about Studio Gaven and their fantastic director, Leon!!! I LOVE this place!!! I have been visiting this establishment for several years and I feel like part of the family when I walk through the front door. The manager, Leon, is someone that I have the privilege of seeing on every visit and he is a genuinely nice person that cares about each and every customer as well as the stylists. If you don't have a salon that you frequent or even if you do, then I HIGHLY recommend trying Studio Gaven!!! Then, you can see for yourself that this is the best salon in the area!!!
new in town!! – hello there, I recently moved to the Brentwood area a few months ago and had been eagerly looking for a new stylist. After reading several reviews about Studio Gaven I took a chance and was completely and totally amazed by my experience. I saw Jim at Studio Gaven. he took the time to listen to my concerns about my hair, its color and showed my how to properly use my products to style my hair the way I have always wanted it!!
Bad Management – I have been going to Studio Gaven for a few months now and was very pleased with Julie. I have never written a review before but I am getting tired of paying good money for products or services that do not do what they are supposed to do and then the business does not want to stand behind their product.
The first time I went Julie recommended I try a new shampoo and conditioner of which I purchased at a cost of over $70.00. Julie told me that if it did not work for me I could not get my money back but I could exchange it for another product. I used the items for several weeks and my hair got to where I could hardly get a comb thru it, When I went back to Julie she noticed it too. We couldn't figure out what was going on. I used the shampoo for a couple more weeks and then I went back to my old shampoo. My hair started turning around and I knew then it was the shampoo. Remembering what Juliet had told me I took the shampoo and conditioner back with the intent of exchanging it. Julie told me the salon had changed their policy and was no longer taking product back but she agreed to talk to the manager.
The manager said no they would not do anything. I told him that I did not expect my money back and that it was not their fault but it needed to be sent back to the manufacturer and he said no. I told him if he did not make this right somehow that he was going to loose a customer and he gestured letting me know he didn't care if I came back or not, he didn't care. I could not believe how I was being treated, I told him I hated it for Julie but to cancel my appointment that I had just made and I would not be back and he said ok, he didn't care. This guy was rude, arrogant and not not very smart. He should not be dealing with the public and if I owned that salon he would not work for me. I spend $250.00 every time I go in there, why someone would sell a product that they can;t support is not very smart in my opinion but not caring if their customer ever comes back is not very smart either.
I hate this for Julie but I will not spend that kind of money on a product or at an establishment that does not care if you are happy or not as long as they get the MONEY. This has to stop, people deserve better treatment.
Love Studio Gaven – I am 56 years old and have been going to Studio Gaven for almost 2 years. I love both Amy and Kim doing my hair. They treat me like a queen. My hair is thin and fine ... and a challenge. I had had the same old hairstyle for years when I met Kim. She made me look 10 years younger .I also have found the best place to have a facial....Kelly. I have had many facials at many spas and Kelly is the best. I try to have Kelly do her magic at least once every month.
Studio Gaven and Jim – I am 55 years old and this was absolutely the best experience I have ever had coloring my hair. Jim was the best!!
From Mediocre to Disappointing – I've been going to Studio Gaven for about five years and have had three stylists during that time. I started with Johnna. I liked her and her expertise, but she often had students and she would not only teach but work on my head and two others at the same time. Sometimes the results were great and sometimes so-so, depending on how busy she was. I stayed with her through 2 pregnancies and a number of students until she left.
After that I went with one of her students, Bethany, who had great customer rapport and pretty good haircuts. A mixup in scheduling led me to Tiffany.
Tiffany gave me the best cut and color of my life...for two visits. On the 3rd visit, things did not go well. The cut was sub par and the color was awful. I couldn't tolerate it so I called the Studio. They said she would call the next day. I waited all day and had to call them again at which she finally returned my call. She worked me in and I was grateful to be there, knowing it would turn out great. It didn't. I was to leave to go out of town the following Monday. Nearly $200 later after tax and tip, I was unhappy, again, with my cut and color and was at home two nights before I was to leave, cutting my own hair, because it was uneven. I don't cut my own hair, which produced much anxiety.
When I returned, I went to talk to the manager, Derek. They wouldn't let me see him and said that he would call me at home. He didn't. The Studio called weeks later to ask if I wanted to keep my appointment with Tiffany. Uh, no, and told them why. She said she would enter it into the system. Two months later and still no call from the manager.
Rumor has it that they will be moving to a new building on Baker's Bridge, leaving their other two-story spread that was built for them, vacant, for who knows how long. If you're hurting for customers, Studio Gaven, it could be the stylists or it could be your lousy customer service.
