Poor customer service!!!! – Will not be coming back!!!
It is unacceptable to pay $113 for double strand twists and it to not last 24 hours. This is made worse when the stylist states it will last 2 weeks.
When I complained, they first said they would redo it. When I arrived, they stated although the style had failed, my hair looked fine. I paid for the style, not my ability to remedy it.
Then, the manager wants to argue with me. I just want what I was promised and paid for. If you are unable to provide the service, that is fine. Let me know and we can try something else.
ADORE this place – This salon is quite possibly one of the best in Chicago for all kinds of hair.
Chicago salons are very segregated in general. African Americans have their set of salons, Caucasians have their set, Dominicans have their set, and so on. But Van Cleef services ALL hair types!
I've seen nothing but beautiful, healthy hair walk out of that salon in addition to my own!
The stylists on STAFF are great!
To Diana's review - one thing you have to realize about any salon is that if a stylist is RENTING a booth, they get paid individually for their services and the salon itself is not responsible for their work nor their mistakes. That said, Roni's response was correct. Just in general - before you get a major service done, ALWAYS ask the price!!! Isn't that common sense??
Anyway - I would recommend that salon to anyone looking for a great style and great atmosphere.

Don't believe in malicious words... – this salon is probably the best in chicago. don't believe in the review done by "diana", she is a very sick person, always trying to get things for free. she is an abuser.
All the shops should be warn and don’t provide services to this person.
Lack of integrity – I arrived at Van Cleef hair salon in September to have hair infusion wefts removed by Mary who rents a chair at Rahni's salon. She is an independent contractor and so she only rents a chair at his salon along with Carrie another stylist who cuts and colors hair. Mary removed the wefts with a strong solution and then Carrie cut my hair into a bob to cut out most of the damage but in my personal opinion I felt she could have left my hair shoulder length. I was embarrassed to leave the salon with such short hair so Mary took me to a wig store and I purchased my own human hair for Mary to sew into my hair. She sewed my hair into tight cornrows all the way up to the crown of my head and at my hair line which really hurt a lot. When the weave was finally in I felt the look was unnatural and "wiggy" so Carrie charged me $125 to cut and style the weave so it looked more natural. This was the first time for me that another stylist needed to cut extensions. Apparently Mary does not know how to cut extensions so Carrie cuts the extensions for you after Mary weaves in the hair. After the service I was shocked to find out that Mary wanted an additional sum of $1050 so I asked if I could write her a check or pay the salon Van Cleef using my credit card but Rahni would not let me and told me Mary only rents a chair at Van Cleef so he can not accept credit card payments on her behalf. Mary drove me to an ATM machine and I gave her $950 since I had no choice. The next day I showed the work to people at Sally's Beauty Supply shop and they felt it was not done properly and said I had been charged too much money for a simple weave in. I complained to the owner but he would not help me and when I asked Mary to please make it less tight she said she'd have to charge me $100 extra for such a service. I eventually went to another salon to remove the weave because it hurt too much and I noticed Mary had used a lot of thread to make the weave stay in. I am glad I removed it one week later rather than suffer further hair breakage. While the weave was removed at another hair salon I noticed pieces of my own hair were falling out along with the thread Mary used to tie in the weave. Mary had insisted placing a weave into my own hair would help my own hair grow and "give my hair a break". When I mentioned this to the stylist who removed Mary's work he laughed at me and explained braids are much more damaging than adding in extensions using protein bonds. If you ask me Van Cleef should be able to accept credit cards if their staff rents or chair at their salon. Rahni simply told me I should have asked Mary what her price was before the service was completed. If I had known it was going to cost me a full day of work and deplete my savings I would never have stepped into this salon.
See and B Seen! Michelle Obama! Hands off! – It's the only place in town where you can get the power haircut and walk out feeling like you are amongst the stars of the world. The inside of the salon is not glitzy and glamorous, but the once you sit in Ronnie's chair----It's all magic. Escape to a place of posh and just give him very little of your ideal fantasy cut. He'll handle the rest! He'll cut your hair, curl, flat iron, and style your frock of locks until he creates the vision of ultimate pleasure! Let him just surprise you! I love him. I loved my previous hair stylist too! Until Oprah took him away. Guess who will be taking Ronnie? Can you say O-B-A-M-A! Michelle, please leave him alone! I'm a first lady in my household too!
Warm Enviornment, Impeccable Service, TOP NOTCH Hair Care(Especially NATURAL Hair) – I have been to many hair salons, in multiple cities, and Van Cleef stands above them all. Most salons that I've been to have 1. stylists who don't listen to how you want your hair styled and who prefer to do their "own thing" 2. a snooty staff that makes you feel like YOU'RE the one who should be grateful they even let you in the place, and 3. stylists who double, or even quadruple book their appointments. This is what has,in the past, angered me the most. On more than on occasion I've had a 10am appointment and didn't get out until 3pm. Van Cleef is the opposite of all of that. I've never had to wait for more than 10 minutes to get into my stylists chair (Evvy) and she's always done within an hour. The proprietor, Rahni,and his staff are ALWAYS friendly and make you feel like Van Cleef is a home way from home. My stylist, Evvy, works wonders with my Natural Hair (which most salon's I've been to have been unable to tame) and always listens to what I want and implements my requests. I would also recommend Cori, who's made my hair beautiful on several occasions. She's also very punctual and always makes sure you're in and out in a reasonable period of time. When you go, let them know Dana sent you!
GREAT SALON AND PROFESSIONAL – This is the most professional salon I know of. I've tried several salons and stylist over the years and I've considered VanCleef's to be my home. I've been a client for over 25 years and would highly recommend this salon and the staff. My personal stylist is Rahni and I appreciate very much his professionalism and willingness to service his clients. Since I've been a client for so long I have seen some stylist come and go and for those who stay the professionalism of VanCleef's becomes a part of them. Why have I been a client for so long? Rahni and his friendly, personable but professional staff; early morning availability (my standing appointment is 5:15am); Whatever services I need they are available at VanCleef's. It does not matter if you are a farmer's daughter or the president of a corporation you arte treated with dignity at VanCleef's. Such has been my experience. Give them a try you want be disappointed. Tell them you read my review.
Best Hair Salon – I have very diffuclt hair to deal with considering it's very long and extremely curly and they manage a perfect blowout each and every time. The staff and customers are extremely friendly and I've never regretted going there. I'm sad that the women below had a bad experience but it truly is one of the best salon's in Chicago.
